OP does seem amusingly clueless as he "makes friends" with random people who just magically approach him, but when it comes to safety it can be tricky to distinguish poverty from danger. Not all poor areas are dangerous. If anything, some of the poorest areas, particularly the rural areas, are often the safest of all.

The more foreigners occasionally visit or richer locals pass through, the more dangerous it tends to be because it draws the local criminal element and they are waiting for new targets. There is also a big difference between quickly walking through some area and snapping some pics versus staying there.

***

I like my poverty tours/poorism too and had my fill. But what really amazes me these days is not the poverty but the wealth. In most developing countries, there are pockets of massive wealth and it's interesting how they made their money and what they are doing with it. In contrast, subsistence farming gets pretty boring to check out pretty quickly. The whole world is about the same, with the biggest difference being the crops.

I guess what it comes down to is that many people want to see things that are different from home. The extremes are what make the trip memorable, interesting, and photogenic. Most people go for "poorism" to see the one side of extremeness, but keep in mind that the other rich extreme is out there too. In my experience, it's way more interesting and actually more accessible. (The less developed and less touristy the country, the more access you will have.)

Yea pretty clueless. To be fair I did come from China where I got chatted up randomly about a million times and invited to places for tea or food a whole bunch and it was all completely innocent.

After a few more days of hanging out I took the ferry back to Cebu and then hopped on another ferry to an island called Bohol, famous for its tarsiers and a place called the chocolate hills. I spent a few days on Panglao island which has the best beaches and has some good scuba diving. Plus theres lots of Koreans there, but almost every god damn one of the good looking girls seemed to be there with her boyfriend. Damn. Then I spent another couple of days motorbiking around the island and taking photos, which is always my one of my favorite things to do. A got myself in a bit of trouble trying to bike up a steep incline on a muddy track, but I was eventually able to unstuck myself, albeit getting mostly covered in mud. One of the inland stops was the Chocolate Hills which in my mind I had looking something like Choco-Mountain from Mario Kart, so it was a little disappointing to see just a bunch of smallish brownish green lumps, and that was it. Seeing the tarsiers was cool, but eventually you just feel bad because all they want to do is sleep all day and people keep waking them up. Anyway it was still a good trip around the island and the following day I booked a ferry to another closeby island, Siquijor.

So I arrived not knowing really anything about the island and I got dumped off on a trike at a place called JJís. The place was really dead, so I rented a bike and took off to scope out the island. When got back there were 2 Canadian girls and a lone Filipina chick there on her laptop. Score! At first I was talking to the Canadians but they went to bed early so I got around to talking to the Filipina girl. She was one of the hotter Filipina girls I've encountered, wearing leggings, a skirt, and a slightly transparent top, which revealed the outline of her bra. She had nice, perhaps smaller, but perky tits and a nice ass. She lived down the road, but since there were blackouts on most of the island she came here to use the wifi because JJ's has a back up generator. So we started talking and it turns out she's part Filipina, part Spanish, and part Chinese, 21 years old, and married to a 40-something year old Canadian guy. Wat. Although they've been married for 2 years she hardly ever sees him now, and it sounded like a very strange marriage. Her reason for marrying him was because he's a really nice guy she didn't want to make him feel bad! (He proposed in public). But still, wtf? I'm assuming she gets a nice amount of cash from him.

So weíre talking and drinking, and it starts pouring rain, and she starts asking me if I find her more attractive than the Canadian girls, and like hell yes, and start telling her everything I like about her (mostly bs) and it was game on from there. A few minutes later Iím getting all her clothes off, and she's got my dick in her hands and then looks at me and says "I don't think I can do this right now." Ohh what the ****. So I asked her why not, and she said it was 'that time of month.í She was worried about the blood getting on the cushions of the lounge area. Like a little blood was going to stop me from banging the **** out of this girl. I told her I had a big towel in my motorbike and I would go and get it. She was cool with this, and I happily trotted out to my bike in the rain, butt naked, boner flapping, with the exuberance of someone who doesn't get laid nearly quite enough.

The sex was really good (almost too good at the beginning) and I ended up banging her the next two nights and once again in Dumaguette before she headed off to Boracay with her sister. Probably the hottest girl Iíve ever been with. I know I know, pics or gtfo. Iíve been scouring facebook for girls from San Juan, Siquijor, but I canít seem to find her ☹ Thread does not deliver.

You might want to read the 3rd paragraph. Especially the part about the boner flapping, was particularly entertaining.

very nice thread, i am curious as to what your total staying time was and how big were the expenses, seems like you didn't do any unnecessary splurging (cockfights are mandatory obviously) ? nice pictures too and the surfing part was a fun read - quite similar to my attempts haha

Total time was about 6 weeks and I think I spent about $3,000. Plane rides, hookers and scuba diving made it more costly than what I'm used to spending in Asia. Worth it though!

Alright so after Siquijor I went to the town of Dumaguette and did nothing for a couple of days, and then went to go snorkelling with the whale sharks. You pay 25 bucks and they take you out in a little boat where a bunch of fishermen are are hanging out. You hop into the water and Bam! Thereís five big ass whale sharks swimming around. Its actually kind of scary at first because theyíll swim towards you with their big mouths open, but theyíre usually just heading towards the boats to get more food. Even though youíre not seeing them in their natural environment and the ethics of the handfeeding is dubious at best, the sharks really are cool to see close up.

So after that I went back to Cebu to get an xray for my Australia visa and then it was off to Puerta Princessa, the main city on the island of Palawan. So for the first couple of days I rented a motorbike and drove around, making sure to stop at the underground river, which was a worthwhile destination. After that I hopped on a bus to El Nido, which is at the northern tip of the island and has some of the most fantastic scenery in the Philippines. I spent over a week there, doing some diving and snorkelling and banging one the resident hookers. I didnít realize that the town doesnít have any ATMís so at one point I had to make the 12 hour round trip, bumpy ass bus ride back to Puerta Princessa to get more cash, which was annoying. I still donít understand how a town that gets as many tourists as El Nido doesnít have a single ATM machine, but I digress.

After that I took a choppy 6 hour boat ride to an island called Coron which also has some great scenery, snorkelling, and wreck diving. Iíve never done any wreck diving before, and normally you would need a special certification, but since itís the Philippines they laughed at me when I asked if Iíd still be able to dive with just my open water certification. Thereís a whole bunch of Japanese warships that got bombed by the Americans back in WW2 that are really cool to swim through. So after a few days of diving it was back to Manila and then Angeles city before flying to Perth.

Now things got pretty interesting my very last day of the trip when I got really drunk in AC and went home with a girl, who subsequently went home with my wallet. Pretty dumb I know. Anyway I didnít have much cash in there, but I did have my bank cards, so now I had no access to cash and my flight was in a few hours. This would have been okay, but because I overstayed my original 3 week visa I had to pay a hundred bucks. So I got to the airport and tried to explain my situation hoping they would feel bad for me and let me hop on the flight anyway. Well the lady was not budging an inch, so I ended up missing my flight and had to call my brother to get him to send me some cash. And now I had no money to even pay for a room. ****!

So come dusk I wandered around a bit and I couldnít even find a decent park to sleep in, so I settled for a strip of grass in the back parking lot of the mall. I suck at being a hobo. Nobody really noticed me there until the mall closed and the employees were leaving to go home. I was getting lots of wtf looks. Eventually two guys in their work uniforms, about my age came up to me asked what I was doing camped out in the parking lot. I explained my situation and one of them said he lives right down the road and if I wanted I could crash there. Well I wasnít exactly keen on the idea of sleeping in the parking lot, and the dude seemed nice enough, so I said f it, and agreed to go with him. So we walked to Jeepney stand and took about a 10 minute ride to his place, which was spartan at best, basically a collection of concrete walls with tin roofing that he shared with his baby son, his mom, his cousin, his cousins wife and children. Everyone was really friendly and his mom made me food, and we just talked and watched tv at the table. Not long after I said I was getting tired and wanted to get to bed.

So he shows me to his room, and he says thereís no extra beds, but his bed is big enough for two. Uhhhhhh, well okay. So I get on my side of the bed and he gets on his, and were still talking about random stuff, and he mentions that heís upset because his wife left him. So I ask him why she left and he tells me its because heís gay and she caught him with another dude. Lol. And heís saying how he thinks she should stay with him for the kid. Anyway a couple minutes later he tells me that he thinks Iím attractive, and heís wondering if I think heís attractive. Ohh ****. God damn it. I tell him I donít swing that way and heís like ahh, yea I totally understand. And then heís like, well could I suck your dick?? And Iím like dude, no! And heís like I donít see what the problem is, you can just close your eyes and pretend Iím a girl. And he tells me how good he is at it. I tell him that theres no way Iím letting him suck my dick, and he says fine, well then Iím going to bed. So we both roll over and I maybe got a few hours of some very uneasy sleep. In the morning his mom made breakfast and his cousin offered to take me back into town on his bike, so I thanked them for their hospitality and that was it. The money had arrived, thank god, and I booked a flight that evening to Perth, and I successfully made it out of the Philippines with my butthole intact!

Now enough with the writing

ahh when I was in shape, before I went back to poker full time

ha yea it was pretty ridiculous. Next I'm driving up the west coast of Australia, then going into Indonesia. After that I'm not totally sure, but things on the list include a bike trip in Vietnam, checking out Burma, India, Nepal, Western China, and Mongolia. That's way too much for 7.5 months but we'll see what happens.
