Anyone been to Nha Trang?

What is the internet like? Any recommendations for places to stay?

What's the cleanest / best beach in Vietnam, with decent internet?

Haha thankfully not. I'm travelling around Vietnam and heard it was a really nice place.

The weather in nha trang is a bit on the meh side at this time of year but rooms are cheap

stayed in a hotel called happy house. about $12 p/n and next to the beach. net good but buy yourself a back-up. costs 500k-1m ($25-$50) and potentially will save you hundreds. no need to top up the data as you usually get free data every month which is more than suffice as a back-up. back to nha trang; some decent bars and restaurant, weather mostly overcast and rains sometimes this time of year but if your lucky you will get breaks in the weather and it will be all good.

Hope everyone's Tet was a good one.

Im a sng player, I noticed for the last week games got harder all of a sudden. Is it just me or did something major change in the poker world? Did we lose Europe due to legislation or something?

hyper turbos 9 man. I dont see many names from VN much so I'm sure no one from here plays my current game.

Did you all know players from VN can not sit together on a 9 man sng? So if there is another player from vn who is playing at the same time. We have to play musical tables. Whoever sits down first gets to play.

What I noticed for the last week is there is less lags and way more tags and of course all the regs.

ah not too sure about hyper turbos. maybe a lot of regs in them trying to get a good start on the year for VIP blast off or sne pursuit or w/e so might be reg infested.

i was playing 9 man non turbo and was playing off peak so had to play some $7s in addition to my usual games to get my desired number of tables running and there was a guy from vietnam at tables and it took me 5 mins to work out why it would not let me reg. kinda ****ty policy on stars behalf. my location is UK and it still wont let me play at same table as a vietnamese player. i emailed stars about it and they said there was nothing they could do. surely someone who has played tens of thousands of sngs on stars and from the uk could get the benefit of doubt and they could check a few hh for collusion. anyway i regged for 30 of the games and the vietnam guy disappeared as he couldnt get in. apologies if that was you.

I was wondering if anyone has been to New World hotel to play live poker on thier electronic tables? Any input anyone can share? Im going to Saigon on the 24th and might wanna stop in. Might not though as paying 12 bucks plus to go all in with your buy in sounds stupid.

From what I know:

-Game is played on 9 handed electronic table, produced by Alfament(?)
-Blinds are 2-4 USD
-Rake is 3% and is uncapped. ~ Lulz
-Min buy in 200, Max 2000
-No Vietnamese can play there only those holding foreign passports

i havent played at the new world. i used to play at the ramana on le van sy in district 3. it was pretty slow but the game was decent. most people bought in for 100-200 dollars and the blinds were 1-2. i am also interested in going to try the new world game sometime. let me know when you head over.

from what you said aznlover, i prob prefer to try the Ramana instead but than again, rich players who are looking to lose a stack and not blink twice are more likely to be at New World.

Let me know what you find. Ill be there in a lil over a week to share my input.

the poker manager that works at the new world is the same guy that worked at the ramana before. he is a pretty nice guy. i can confirm the game is 2-4 with 3 percent vig. i got there about 7pm and there was no players on the list and the guy told me he would call me when a game got going. i hung around district 1 until about 9pm and then i went home. he called around 1030 and said the game was starting. i was tired and it was late and i didnt feel like driving back so i didnt get to play last night. i told him to text me when the game gets going and if i can ill head down.

ill keep you posted.

oh and let me know when you are around if you want to meet up or something.

New World Poker Review

2-4 NLHE 200-2000 buyin (everyone buys in from 200-400)
3 percent uncapped rake

the game seemed decent. there was a lot of limp calling. if they flopped a pair there wasnt a lot of folding. most players were happy to just check it down with mediocre hands. there was not a lot of thin value betting as you would expect.

there was one guy who showed up at the end of my session who seemed to have a clue. just from his demeanor and stuff he wasnt one of these other bozos.

was that you with the 9 6 djle2?

Hi WWAL

Nope. havent had the time. I m only in Saigon for 2-3 days so It's very busy. I probably try to hit the place tonight [Saturday] after 10pm since thats when games start.

So was it a profitable session? I might want to bring a guest though. I know they dont allow locals to gamble; do they even let them into the casino? Im assuming no but im hoping.

I would love to hang out but I dont know if I have enough time. Between doing errands and meetings, I dont know if I have enough time. PM me you number? At the very least ill let you know if/when Ill be heading to New World.

I went to play poker at New Wold on a Sunday night. There was already 6 players when I arrived around 10 pm. Played for roughly 45 minutes.

Other than making a stupid mistake by pushing the chips too many times and not confirming what my bet was before I pushed the bet button, I liked it. Mistake cost me 100 bucks. Ended up -50 usd before I had to go to a club. I was also very card dead also.

I liked what I saw over all even though I lost but I plan to go back and see.

I teach in Korea right now, and as such have a degree, CB check and also as a bonus have a TEFL.

I'm planning on leaving Korea after my contract is up, but have a hard time figuring out which place is best for me. I'm leaning towards either Taiwan or Vietnam.

How does Ho Chi Min City, Vietnam do for the following:

-Hours you 'work' (hours you just have to just be at work, desk warming)
-Hours you actually spend teaching
-Cost of rent for standard one bed, kitchen, bathroom joint
-Cost of local food that contains meat and vegetables (I enjoy all Asian cuisine, but noodles are too just carb loaded)
-Cost of local beer
-Pay per hour in privates / month in schools/private academies

Thank you!

This is a poker forum. There are plenty of other sites for this. My quick suggestion is don't teach English in Vietnam. You'll see why if you disregard my warning and come anyway. Good luck to you.
