Sounds like you would be better of going to Japan or Korea. They have faster transport and you will feel more like home.

Everything is much much easier with an international bank than with a vietnamese one. Much easier to open an account, to have several currencies in bank, to cashout from your pokersite, to move money around, to send money abroad... Also viet banks have their own laws and arent as safe, they had some scandals in the past.

So why the heck would you want to go with a vietnamese bank?

Hi, I just came to Vietnam from Canada and planning to stay here for awhile. Currenly living near Saigon but plan to move there soon after I find a place. I'm looking to join a poker house or just to meet other poker players in the area to chill once in a while. I'm also Vietnamese so if you need a translator, I can help.

I don't think I can PM or receive PMs yet. My number is 01202108026. Gl at the tables!

This thread getting sad I feel like Vietnam poker players are a lot more reserve than other SEA guys. I will try to answer any questions you guys have. Note: I been living here close to 3 years and being Vietnamese-american I can be a little bias. although Vietnam is a great place/culture what most tourist see is only the outside layers of things.

Visa here once every 3 months but everyone get it done quick with this one dude(pm for detail) and paid extra. note there a new rule saying you have to prove your resident of the place you staying in vietnam. but they just trying to get you paid extra. cost me 100 dollar every 3 month everything included.

Every ATM card here are in Dong. I recommand getting ANZ or HSBC they are the two big international bank here. Your saving account would be in EURO and normal in Dong. Easy and fast if you want to transfer outside Vietnam.

Everyone here use http://www.jetstar.com/vn/vi/home for flight booking. There barely any nightlife in Hanoi because for one it the capital of vietnam and they are super strict regarding "party activity". All the baller/rich local goes to saigon to party/get away from there wife.

Not many poker guys here I know share apartment/room. probably due to the fact they have 3-5 gf each and they are lazy when it come to opening door late at night etc. But for staying anywhere in center of Saigon. Dist. 1/3/5/10 are good. outside of that you are recommand to know how to use a moped to get around. rent are cheap nowadays due to ecomony/over load of apartment construction.

I honestly doubt there any grinder there since it not a great place to stay long. it kind of close to saigon so there no reason for anyone to live there. there are better option like nha trang etc.

DonJuan: I thought Vung Tau is a beach resort town. Why do you say it's not a great place to live? I think a lot of wealthy Saigonese go there on the weekends to relax and rewind. Since, it is so close to Saigon, I think it would be nice to live in a beach area, and visit Saigon whenever you have time, if you want a quieter life? Yes/no? Nha Trang is great, but it's too far from Saigon, so if you want to visit Saigon and enjoy what a major metropolitan has to offer, you would have to travel a lot further than from Vung Tau. If you live in Vung Tau, I think you can actually make a day trip to Saigon to hang out if you want. So, in essence you have the best of both worlds, living in a small beach resort, and having the option to visit Saigon, a major metropolitan whenever you want since it is within driving distance for day trips or for a nice weekend trip.

I was there several years ago visiting and I thought it was a nice quiet resort seaside town with plenty of restaurants to patronize, some bars to go out, and plenty of coffee shops. The air is clean, and not dirty and stuffy like Saigon. I am not into the clubbing scenes so I don't really care for clubbing. Just curious to know why you say Vung Tau is not a great place to live? Thank you for any info you want to share!

Every locals I talk to refer Vung Tau as poor man Nha Trang. They all jokes whenever someone say let go to Vung Tau then someone will say I rather spend more/time to go someone nicer like nha trang/da nang. The problem is that it way too close to Saigon meaning all the locals will go there in the afternoon to chill at the beach and than go back to saigon making the beach dirty. Vietnamese litter/trash that place up quite a bit. On a lot of weekend locals like to go there to watch bike racer so it can be crowded but not the kind of you crowd you want to hangout with. Drunk teenage driving isn't going to be your best friend. Also Vung Tau is known for it oil rig not sure you want to swim there. I mean short term yeah it a good place to chill since they are building up resort but for staying long you are better off living in saigon and on the weekend visit there.

I just read this entire thread from start to finish. It's filled with lots of good info, but too bad there are very few pics. You guys should upload some pics. With pics, the thread would be the epic, absolutely epic.

A few observations here. sl4, I can't believe the kind of hell you went through with Stars about depositing and withdrawing your money. Pops to you to have the perseverance to work it out with them. I am not sure I would have your patience. Quick question, I am gonna be in Vietnam in a few weeks, based on what I've read is HSBC the best banking option in Vietnam with respect to depositing and withdrawing from Stars? Anyone can answer this question.

djle, you're one hell of a funny guy brotha. I am also Vietnamese and I've been to Vietnam in excess of 10x since Vietnam opened up to the West in 1995. As a fellow Vietnamese, everything you said about our culture is so ****ing true. Vietnamese are by far the nosiest people I've ever met. So yes, they will know more about you than you know about yourself. lol With respect to how the Viet treat VKs such as yourself and I in comparison with Westerners, I couldn't agree more. I just think they're ****ing stupid and jealous of us. Think I am gonna build a house in the countryside one day like you. I am also from the Mekong Delta, so I am bit familiar with Tra Vinh. The food in the Mekong Delta are the nuts.

Juan, you have lots of balls brotha, marrying a Viet girl in Vietnam. That's a sure fire recipe for disaster my friend, but of course you know that. Leave her in Vietnam; don't bring her to the states bc nothing good will come out of that. lol

Thanks for all the good info guys. Will be there in a few weeks. Hope to meet some of you guys for some drinks and young ladies sightseeing.

HSBC is the best banking option IMO. I'm not sure about deposits though. I tried to do a deposit for a bonus once on Stars and it didn't work (via bank wire). I didn't bother trying to figure out exactly why and haven't tried since. I do think there may be some problem doing wire transfers to poker sites (but I don't know for sure). To receive bank wires from Stars to HSBC is no problem.

this is the kind of email you will get for depositing on stars. you really only need to include the SWIFT. And you have to manually put in Ireland in list of country on HSBC. Also remember to put fee paid by sender. It take about 2.5 days average once you email them that you send the fund. I am an expert at busto(ing) my short roll on stars so anyone need any help let me know.

lol at dating. people here hook up and fu.ck in a day meeting. seriously unless you come off super creepy and i mean like smelling her public hairs you will have no problem what so ever with meeting woman here. When i first came everyone I knew had at least 3-5 gf at a time. the only problem I see is the language barrier because vietnamese woman are more reserve on the outside but that doesn't mean they are innocent. As a matter of fact if anyone want to learn how to be a chick magnet I can introduce them to sl4v3 tomorrow. He an expert at having a girl bring him flowers at his doorstep while he sleep with another one inside. Also vietnam people in general like to show off/brag about wealth on the outside. So the first impression most foreigner already have. they think all foreigner are weathly/higher class etc.
