I came in on a 3 month multiple entry tourist visa, extended 1 month with a single entry ($90), and then made a visa run to Phnom Penh and came back in on another 3 month multiple entry. I was told I could extend after my initial 3 months, but only with a single entry at the moment, and that was looking to run me around USD $250. Hope that helps.

A group of us (2p2 hyenas) in Saigon are going to be doing a night out on Friday. Thinking starting at a Vietnamese beer/bbq garden and then seeing where the night takes us. Give a holler if want to join.

Hi guys,

im thinking of relocating to HCMC for somewhere between 3-6 months. Would like to ask a few questions and hopefully the guys living there now can help me out abit.

1) I Heard from a local viet friend who lives in Hanoi that it is not v safe in HCMC especially at night. To what extent is this true based on ur own experiences?

2)what would a decent serviced apartment (Studio) located near the city/ammenities like supermarket and eateries cost me every month?

3)Do they allow foreigners to open bank accounts there without a long term visa?

4)Can most people speak basic english in HCMC? Was in hanoi and a vast majority of them can only speak viet.

5)What are your thoughts on Viet people and their culture in general(nice/helpful/sketchy/dodgy?) etc

1) LOL. Super safe
2) A modern studio with kitchen and sofa in D1/D3/Binh Thanh/Thao Dien would cost you 450-600$ per month if you rent monthly via airbnb. A little bit less if you sign a lease for 3-6 months.
3) Yes
4) No. But it depends where you are, in D1 or in Thao Dien most young adults will speak basic English.
5) Good. Tbh I didn't have any bad experiences here with the locals, except once a taxi scam (at airport) and of course the occasional dual pricing. Overall Viets are nice, friendly.

Hello guys

i play online medium stakes i am 28 and looking for a new place to settle down for a few months maybe longer

After 4 years of living in Chiang mai i am getting tired and annoyed by almost everything here
- thai drivers 3 cars going on 4 way highway 50km and blocking all the lanes
- bad nightlife
- everyone just sees me as a walking ATM tried to do 3 business with different thai people they always lied about something
- the language starts to annoy me too i cannot read anything
- smog

so just did some research online and vietnam looks like a better place for me
also alcohol prices are much lower and shisha is legal

- are there any grindhouses/pokerhouses in Vietnam?
- where is the biggest poker community in which city?
- are any online poker rooms banned? but i think VPN could solve this
- girls(not prostitutes) especially young ones 18-25 how do they view foreigners?
- how is driving motorbike/car everything is ok with international license?what if i get in accident? what happens if police catch me drunk driving?
- live cash game which city is the best?

before i stayed 1 month on Phu Quoc and i liked it but too small/boring to stay there longterm

No grindhouse that I know of, but hcmc is probably your best bet. I've never been to Hanoi buteveryone tells me the nightlife is slow. Theres a few poker players here , trying to set up some meets. Big body boris set one up before I went home for christmas and it was a good group.

If any rooms are banned the ban isn't enforced as far as I know.

18-25 is a bit young for me, but so from what I've seen it's quite difficult to meet local women due to language barrier. Certainly possible though.

There are a few live cash games in hcmc in the form of "sit n goes" which take 10%of your buy in, blinds never go up and you can cash out whenever. It's just a legal loophole.

I enjoyed phu quoc a lot when I went but it was very slow like you said.

There is no huge difference between the girls from Saigon and the girls from Chiang Mai except that here they are more traditionals. And way more traditional if you go live in smaller cities.. As OG expats say "Vietnam is like Thailand 20 years ago".

What BGP said is true, you won't meet a ton of cute (almost fluent in English) university girls on a Friday night on Bui Vien street cuz traditional girls gonna traditional.. Non working girls don't go out to bars / nightclubs often maybe once in a blue moon but nothing crazy. To find gems you have to do some digging.. Best way IRL would be to pick up girls in bubble tea shops (close to universities would be GTO) then central shopping too, online you can use apps like Skout or Zalo and scan night and fkn day all around your location to find some gems, that's how I found my gf (fluent in English and graduated from university last year) hehe. You could do some digging as well in the expats and locals group on FB by looking for "someone" (ofc a cute girl) to teach you Vietnamese for money.

Hi Guys, I just moved here to restart my online poker career (so to speak), I'm an Indian national, was playing mostly on Stars, before the government passed a regulation that made most of the foreign sites to close it services in India (Stars tied up with an Indian network), but the money on Indian sites is just plain stupid (can't make a decent living out of it, unless you get very lucky and crack a big festival tournament). I will go through the thread once, but even before that I've a couple of questions.

1. I'm here on a 3-months, single entry tourist visa, is that going to be a problem for me to change addresses on the poker networks? I've rented an apartment in D3, and I've a lease agreement.

2. How do I get a bank account here? Can I get a bank account using my tourist visa? Any banks you would recommend? I had a lot of trouble/restrictions on the amount of money I can transfer using Skrill & Neteller (the later has frozen my account for limit exhaustion). It would be great if I can transfer money directly from my bank account. I'm alright with taking a business visa, if possible, if things go right for me here.

3. Have any of you faced any problems, internet issues, power outages, etc, playing here?

Once again, I'll go through the entire thread, but its a 69-70 pages long, so thought it would be a good idea to say hello and ask a few things. Cheers!

1. Nope should be fine. They just ask for proof of lease agreement.

2. Not sure if a business Visa will help. I opened up a prepaid bank account with ACB in less than 30 minutes with an American passport. Only website that has worked for me through the banking system was apart of the GG network. For Party and the bigger networks I have to go through skrill. I haven't tried with the ACB visa though.

3. For the internet you can get a prepaid mobile along with the wifi to have a backup service. Power outages where I'm at are pretty random, like once a month or two. They also have these random times where they shut the power off to conserve electricity. You can either buy an electric generator or just use your mobile internet+laptop battery to finish your session.

Hey Luckrobbie7,

Thanks for the reply. Sorry got busy getting acquainted to the city, food and the climate.

Yeah sounds okay, I'm going to try ACB, VietCom and Timo today. Although a lot of locals are warning me against moving money from pokersites to bank (and vice-versa) and from Vietnamese bank to my Indian banks, saying it will be very difficult to do that. But its okay, I guess, I will at least have account to operate locally. Won't take out much from pokersites to be on the cautious side, just rent and necessities.

Yes, my room has a FPT internet, provided by my landlord, will add a back up soon though. As such, I haven't witnessed any power outage myself, so unless otherwise proven, not intending to buy a backup for it.

Anyways, thanks a lot again. This post made it a lot easier for me to set up. I'll start the grind as soon as I get a GO from pokersites, namely PS, PP, ACR, 888 (PP, 888 has already given the green signal).

Not sure, if I'm ready to make the switch to live poker, still contemplating whether to play APT. But in any case, happy grinding to all. Hope to get a chance to meet and talk to you all in some time. Cheers!

Hey, im looking to make a move to HCM myself. Would like to ask what did the locals say are the consequences for moving $ from poker sites to viet bank account? And if it is not advisable, what alternatives do they use to cash out their money?

Also, how are u liking vietnam so far? i assume u r in HCMC?

Guys... The first rule of Fight Club is: you do not talk about Fight Club.. Don't tell the locals what you do for a living, unless maybe your gf (if LTR and you trust her 100%). Same with foreigners IRL. It's a gray area, too many snitches, crazy / jealous people in this world so be careful. Just my two cents
