At present they certainly seem poised to be the best team in the East when Lebron starts really showing his age in say 4 or 5 years from now. But some chance of that changing within that time I suppose, as K2d pointed out the Wizards could maybe be a contender as well.
Remember though that Curry and Durant are like four years younger than Lebron so good chance the Warriors will still be a powerhouse when/if the Celtics take over the East. Of course Curry may end up 'losing his legs,' within that time. Has been known to happen to jump shooters.
But if the Warriors stay together and healthy they stand to be a powerhouse team for a long while to come, even after Lebron stops being one.
And who will be the Celtics of the West anyway? Recent history suggests maybe the Spurs. Lakers are a long way off even if they have a good future ahead of them. In theory NO has itself a powerful tandem and if they could add one or two more pieces they could maybe be pretty sick, but I think DeMarcus Cousins is in the same category as Carmelo and Dwight Howard. Lots of natural talent and ability but don't have the right mental, emotional, psychological mindset needed to be a champion and thus never will be one.
Also the other teams in the West that regularly make the playoffs it just feels like they've already reached their ceiling and just aren't quite good enough. Clippers have been plagued by injuries but still just don't see them getting enough better at this point. OKC isn't really a team it's just a vehicle for Westbrook to pad his own personal stats. Rockets look pretty lol after getting destroyed by the Spurs when Kawahi wasn't even playing. Grizzles are getting too old.
Lebron and the Cavs aren't underdogs, but the Warriors are the team that may represent the real longer term issue as they may be the best team in the West for most of the next decade. And I mean the definitive best team for most of the next decade not just the over all best team. Like the Spurs have been the over all best team in the entire league for the last 20 years, but it's OK because they weren't nessicarily always the best team in the league at every given moment, but with the Warriors we could possibly see a decade of dominance second only to the one the 60's Celtics had...Or maybe Barkley's right and they are just an above average jump shooting team on a massive heater.
I guess time will tell.
