I tried this site for example. But it does 1+ bedrooms instead of exactly 1 bedroom. Also I have no idea the word for studios. I don't need or could afford the un-used second bedroom.

http://www.bajainvestment.com/Tijuan...l#.WGaPbsnTnqA

This list stuff in Tijuana, but not sure If any of these are New City just over border if I was trying to do quick San Diego commute.
I took a look at those links and I don't think that New City has anything less than 2 bedrooms. I have found Viva Nuncios to also be reliable and here's there's for New City: https://www.vivanuncios.com.mx/s-ren...1098l10015q0p1

As you can see from the filters on the left side, they don't offer anything less than 2 bdr either. I just don't think you're going to find any studios or 1 br in that building.

Also, keep in mind that commuting from SD is still tough - the border crossings will get old quick. Yes, you can get Sentry, but that's a sizable time investment and no guarantee of a quick crossing, only an expedited crossing (a subtle but critical difference).

Not trying to sell you on Mexicali but there is something to be said for picking a city with quick(er) border crossings.

The older I get, the more I wish I had left USA after Black Friday. It isn't even about commuting anymore. I'm fine with living abroad full time.

Thanks Jack and Lipo. There is stuff to review and consider. Plus I figure Gramps will see this thread bump at some point and chime in.

So what exactly are you looking for then? You do realize that those New City prizes are WAY higher than anything else in Mexico, right? If you want to be abroad full-time then why pick something so close to the border? Tijuana is OK, but there's so many other nicer cities with much better prices all over Mexico. TJ is a good option just to take advantage of poker, but you're not going to be saving that much money overall.

Some of what I said might seem to contradict, but like most Americans that have never set foot in Mexico, safety is a priority worth paying for. Proximity to getting back into USA is also a priority. Throw in a lack of spanish and being nearer to border where there is more English spoken makes sense. Someone was saying even Ensenada is difficult if you don't speak spanish.

I'm in research mode. What cost what. What type of "safe" zones are there. Etc.

Plus it isn't just about saving money. It can be about making money. Depending on game type and stake size, you can make a lot more on PokerStars than elsewhere. A US friendly poker network like WPN is a reasonable choice, but NV, NJ and a few other states are not even suppose to be playing on them or the new Bovada/Ignition. My actual relocation might be from NV to CA so that WPN and Ignition are available to me. And by being not only in CA but somewhere awesome like San Diego, I have commuting also making more poker sites available to play.

Bovada pulling the 1-2-teddy and making people re-register their address to Ignition to weed out certain states was un-cool.

If safety is what you're looking for then TJ is the last place you should be looking

Also, I know plenty of people that play on WPN/ACR/BCP from Nevada, don't know why you think that WPN is closed to you.

Cherry-pick much? Jack, I doubt I'm the first person to tell you that you are helpful and problematic at the same time. I'll leave it at that.

If you don't want people to give you honest, direct advice then throw your computer in the trash, the internet is not for you.

(also live in sd and commute)
Pretty much this I'd say. Newcity is only 2 Bd.+ and as mentioned a lot more expensive than many other options (and most of the existing units have sold - there's been quite an uptick in the condo market here). There's whole blocks of apartments on Paseo Centenario and the surrounding area nearby if you need to be walking distance to the Border.

If you're living in TJ, being South of the River (but near food/the nicer areas) might be even better than before, as traffic on this side has gotten worse with the introduction of the SITT (and closing off of a lane for the buses). Traffic in general has gotten worse - we'll see if it's temporary with the new systems, or the new normal . Though if you're like Marty, you can order all your meals delivered from a bunch of food places (especially if you have some Spanish skills). Many great places deliver via moto-bike.

Kind of sucks that a lot of of rentals happen offline, but lol-Mehico/TJ. It's still largely a word-of-mouth/drive around to look for signs kind of system here. And you have to pay your bills in person still.

Also in general crime is upticking a bit here (statistics & in certain areas), but likely still less-unsafe than places grinders eagerly congregate/travel through in South America. Same with Rosarito lately (and maybe even moreso). You also see military around again. The disruptions of new competition for the Tijuana Plaza + influx of migrants stressing resources for the poor/drug-addicted are likely culprits.

Hasn't changed my behavior yet, and for someone not engaging in high-risk behaviors (i.e. late-night/wrong part of town) you should be fine. In several years here I've been aggressively bothered on the street once (while walking with another 2+2r from this thread, lol), but I usually present pretty well/have some common sense/spatial awareness. People generally respect your space here, at least if you don't have the body language look of "wtf, I don't know where I am or have any clarity." Some common sense and awareness goes a long way (like anywhere in the World).

Playas de Tijuana (15 minutes) and Rosarito (30 minutes) aren't too far from the Border either. Still dozens of grinders in Rosarito. GL.

Pretty cool concert happening in Tijuana (Playas) on June 3rd. The Dresden Symphony Orchestra will be playing a concert along the Border Wall. Half the symphony will be on the US side, half on the Mexican side.

Hello,

I am a US citizen and I am seriously thinking about moving to Tijuana, Mexico to pursue playing on Stars. I don't want to use a VPN as I don't want to get caught violating the TOS and have my $ seized. My question is if anyone knows how far I would have to go to grind legally. I saw on 2p2 an old thread that someone was planning on living in San Diego, maintaining US citizenship, residence, and bank account, and driving across the border daily to play Stars. Is that good enough? I'm thinking probably not. Does anyone know if I would need to prove Mexican residence to Stars, open a Mexican bank account, or even revoke my US citizenship and apply for Mexican citizenship?

They changed the law re: the Border/free zones, so you're "supposed" to have an FMM visa (6-month, costs 500 pesos and you can buy it at offices on way in), but for practical purposes no one ever checks here. Would need it to open a bank account though.

Getting back on Stars is pretty easy. Living here as an American is pretty easy too, except for the Spanish/foreign country part. For those unfamiliar/uncomfortable, Rosarito might be easier.

It's interesting, the past 12 months (and especially the last 3-6) it appears Tijuana has hit some kind of "tourism inflection point" where the younger/hipper type of assured-body-language USA tourist is now comfortably sauntering down to Tijuana, ready & confident to explore the spots. Despite the fact that the "pure statistics" crime-wise are worse than some years past.

Part of that might be the investment money flowing in/new places opening up every month in Centro and surroudning (better) neighborhoods. Part of that might be the effect when the NYTimes, etc. start writing about the place and giving it that stamp of "cool" and "in place" approval.

Both happy & sad to see it. Either way, it's also cool to watch the place shift/grow in real time.
