Also noticed there was some talk about tennis earlier. Sign me for that tournament if it goes down. Or if anyone just wants to play sometime lmk. I'm at Palacio Del Mar (20min south of town) and we have a sweet lighted court. I can hold my own but def no pro.

Has anyone had any success in getting passport/lease/FM-3 notarized? Moneybookers is forcing me to do this before upping my limits anymore. The banker at Santander said I would have to have everything translated to Spanish?

I'm just trying to find the most efficient way to do this and if there's anyone other than http://www.notariapublica1rosarito.com/ in Rosarito who is available to do it. Post here or feel free to PM.. Thank you!

I just got this completed yesterday. The notary speaks English, but the person at the front desk only speaks Spanish and the dude who speaks English is so busy he rarely up front so be prepared to speak very good Spanish if you go.

I lived in Argentina for a year and I struggled my way through that whole process. Then again, we had trouble with the passport (see below) and that made it way harder. Basically, here's how it works.

They can notarize your FM3 and Mexican bank statement no problem as those are already in Spanish. Just realize they have to notarize the ENTIRE document so don't try to bring just the front page of your bank statement.

And this is where the problem with passports come in. They can't notarize just the front page of the passport by law, they have to notarize the ENTIRE thing including the instructions pages and the visa pages. AND they can't notarize anything in English, so you have to get EVERY PAGE translated first.

Obviously, I wasn't paying for all of that, so after maybe an hour of arguing and going back and forth with different people and people's fathers they finally agree to do just the front page of my passport for me, but I still had to get that page translated (even though it was already in English/French/Spanish wtf).

So finally it was $25 for translation (at a separate place nearby) and $45 for the three documents to be notarized and I had to go back the next day to pick them up. And what they did was illegal, I think.

Still haven't sent the documents into to Moneybookers, but this **** better work.

Im def watching the SB here and might play flag football. Josh and i bought some super bowl squares in the pool they had running. SHould be fun. Food there is good and cheap and they keep plenty of Dos equis in stock.

If im not back on Stars by this weekend id be down to go out. Prob not strip clubs as im kinda over them (for a while) and i hear they are too crowded on weekends, but pretty much anything else. In Calafia for the weekend if anyone wants to stop by.

If you want dollar account you need 1k usd. Boliver my spanish was kinda bad so i might have understood wrong, but do i need to keep at least 1k in the account or just 1k min to start it?

And make sure you go lease>telnor>bank, at least Santandar needed both those.

^^^ posts above are a bit ambiguous, so 1k to open, but you are also saying that you need to keep a minimum balance to keep it open of 1k?

That doesn't seem to make sense, if your balance dropped to $800 they just close the account?

basically its just like a normal US account with a min balance or other stipulations for a free account.

1k is the min balance and if it is below that 1k at the end of the month/billing cycle(not sure which), u will be charged a $35 flat fee.

so its basically $35/mo if u dont keep a 1k balance. not sure about peso accounts though, just USD.

hope this makes more sense man. scott.

yeah i know, but i asked when i signed up if that was min to open or min i had to keep in account and they said the latter. Again could have been lost in translation idk. Maybe theres some kind of monthly fee that kicks if it gets below.

Looking to trade my 900 lock for your stars, will pay reasonable vig.

Geez lots of conflicting info, some disinfo in this thread. I got some tidbits for any people considering moving here that I haven't seen hardly anybody post that I'd like to share now...

First of all, it's Mexico - they try their best to take advantage of you especially if they think you're rich. White = rich. So, know that before you do any transaction. Generally, people will lie and cheat and steal when possible. You'll also run into a lot of really nice people who won't do this. It's a grab bag for sure.

Miguel is okay, but he's not the nuts. Like any realtor, he's trying to fill places. I think the fact is we just don't know who the nuts is yet. Somebody posted a realtor who was really awesome, I can't remember his name, I'd look into him. If you're looking for somebody to respond to your calls and emails over 50% of the time, I bet that guy will be a better bet than Miguel. He's a white guy too, if that shifts the tables at all.

Regarding Santander, I opened up a peso account with only $77 dollars. That's right, 1000 pesos. I was told the min to open up an account is ~$470, but you can immediately withdraw the remaining $393 or whatever. I pretty much just looked sad and poor and talked to the guy for awhile and he did some override so I wouldn't have to deposit much.

Food advice - Cook stuff. Vegetables and chicken are delicious if you buy them from the local markets and like to cook. "La Serranita" is where we get all our veggies and chicken. It's better than American food by far, and it's all so very ridiculously cheap. Wal-mart is probably the most over-priced place in the area. And the food is not fresh.

I have had great experiences just shopping around for little restaurants/kitchens where you walk out with a total bill of $5 for two people. If you're considering this route, choose the "cutesie" type places that are decorated nicely, imho they have the best foods. "Beach Bum" tacos in Puerto Nuevo is very good. If you go for the cleanest looking places I tend to believe that you'll end up with crappier food. Don't be scared - I've eaten at some grungy-looking places that make delicious tortas and burritos and have yet to get sick at all.

Houses/condos - if you get one, be prepared to have to take care of your own water, gas, and sewage disposal. Usually the place will leave you with appropriate phone numbers, it's just an annoying hassle.

If you need anything, feel free to send me a message and we can chat. Would love to meet more people! Mi casa es su casa.

No no, I think Miguel is the nuts. He's dealt with about 25-30 guys down here so far, hes in so deep that if he were to scam someone, he'd lose out on SOOO much money that it wouldnt even be real.

Haven't heard of your gringo buddy, but gl!

Welcome, if you're interested in strip clubs, PM me and we can go rage
