lol i'm down whenever, i was just out of town hanging out with my gf and friends the last 4 days but find me on skype i want to try and make a fool of myself out there as a first timer.

and just as a fyi to anyone thinking about mexico since i've seen a lot of interest itt, its a wonderful place and the food is great etc but on a personal level stars has been incredibly slow, unhelpful and has still prevented us from playing despite huge efforts on my end. I know that many people have been able to get up and playing so my case isn't exclusive. I'm thinking it will be about a month from moving here that they will finally get things working despite me having all proper documentation on the first day (I can only hope..) Just something to think about.

What has the problem been? Slow response times from stars? Anybody else down there having similar issues with stars? Was it quick and easy getting reinstated for anyone down there?

Stars has been pretty quick to set me up despite my account never holding a strong vip status, as long as you are through on your end with the documentation it should be no more than a week, my room mate got approved even quick than i did.... maybe each case is different

I didn't want to get too dramatic saying the problem but it has been something like this:

I moved in the first day with everything set up - bank account, utility bill etc. I immediately gave stars everything including our landline and logged into stars from my computer. From the start they have taken a huge length of time between everything I've done... its all been ridiculously slow (and in the past I've felt nothing but great things from their support).

Early on they tell me that our landline and internet are from San Diego at which point I learn that we have a Vonage something (I'm not savvy with the internets). So they then say everything will be OK if I take a phone call and log into stars from a mexican IP address nearby. I let them know that if I need to switch my internet at any point to please let me know but that my service has been paid 6 months in advance. I go ahead and take the call at my rental agency by giving them a window of time to call me. They didn't call me despite it being perfectly clear through a call volley of 2 e-mails on each side so I had to urgent e-mail them, again, after waiting nearly 2 awkward hours in some old dudes office so I could get thru everything on the phone with the guy and it all checked out.

Then they recant their former statement and say they want more proof that I was living in Rosarito. So I e-mailed them roughly 25 pictures over a period of time giving virtually undeniable proof that I was in fact living here (because I am) and showing our phone situation. I also, rather than taking a screenshot, took a picture with my camera showing my receipts and computer on whatsmyipaddress.com showing that my computer is broadcasting a sandiego IP while having a geolocation at Rosarito. Additionally I had well known references from the poker community both e-mail in and I had other names that I offered that could e-mail in at their discretion.

After the phone call-ish my case was escalated to the 'case manager' and that's when things got so f**king slow and miserable that it got mad depressing. It was 3 days on average between e-mails for them and 30 minutes between e-mails for me because I constantly refreshed my e-mail in hopes of getting approved or continued contact with them.

After their incredibly slow support they deny my request and say that I need to change my IP address. This is when I felt like complaining on a thread to 2p2 because it was absolutely ridiculous. They knew from the start my IP was American and could have told me their policy but instead had me do this run around (which I believe I passed with flying colors, I don't see how it couldn't have been) with their incredibly slow support before denying me anyway for a reason they knew about on day #2.

----Fast forward to now

So far I have walked down with my roommate to the internet company to work something out and they said they are in the process of switching all their servers to a Mexican IP address anyway and it will be completed by 9/10. I'm going to double verify this by walking down there again today.

I asked stars to please align everything so that when it changes over on 9/10 that we can have a smooth and speedy process and they said 'no'. I can say that everything has been incredibly distasteful on their part so far, but that's just my opinion after moving out here and spending thousands in the process and them being completely aloof to all the efforts I've made so far.

/drama

Comments, questions, me being unreasonable statements all welcome.

I feel for you skillz, but to be honest without a mexican IP address there's nothing they can do. The DOJ is breathing down their necks so they can't really budge on the requirements. Just buy an aircard,thats what a lot of people have done down here.(Including me).

Try PM'in PS Chris on here and see if he can help you out.

Again, I think that this policy is completely fine. But why did they have me do all this stuff for two weeks, which I more than complied with (I went seriously over the top each time answering their questions with pictures, references etc) before denying me anyway while knowing this the whole time?

That is why I have a bitter taste in my mouth - their process and what they did to me was completely unnecessary (again they could have told me from the start they can't continue w/o Mexican IP), time wasting (looks like 1mo+ before I start despite me having everything done on day #1) and painful/costly.

I tried to do a search and couldn't find PS Chris - could anyone link me to his profile please? - Thanks

I used to do 1/2 6-max cash but switched over to MTTs in august 2010. We recently tried to get on euro sites after the pstars mess but from the start the eurosites told us that we needed a Mexican IP which actually helped initiate our transition that way towards a Mexican IP because we heard this before stars got to us about it. We are serviced by 'MultiCable' something our landlord pre setup and prepaid before we even moved in. If they can't switch it over soon then I'll go with Telnor, although honestly having two internet connections in Mexico doesn't seem like the worst idea either from everything that I've heard.

So Multicable is switching their IP over confirmed? I have the same and I havn't cancelled it yet just due to playing on my aircard and not feeling like dealing with the hassle of trying to find someone who speaks passable english at telnor. But if they are switching over that would be great!

I can't say for sure because I haven't been able to speak with the manager again. He said so fairly convincingly ~4 days ago but I wanted to reconfirm however he's been out of his office (so they say..)

I'm getting an air card tomorrow. I finally learned what these were after meeting some 2p2r's today... I wish I knew these existed a while ago.

fwiw we finally got retarded telnor internet installed. it's DSL, which I've never had, but working fine. Occasional lags when we first got it running, but pretty good besides that.

I went down there three times on all separate days to ask and they never let me see the manager or talk to anyone or would answer my question. It was super obnoxious. I gave up on caring because I'm getting this air card situation all figured out right now.

Around 8/31 I believe we had a super solid 10-15 minute convo with the manager who said that no matter what it would be switched by then. I've had my doubts and reservations since then and checking the IP today I have sentiments you could only expect. Oh well.

I may stop by there at some point again to see if I can get a hold of him but I'm not relying on that any more for now.

For those of you using air cards, where did you get them and do they work well when you are not on a ground level? I remember having one in Vegas that barely worked once I reached the 10th floor of a hotel. Also does anyone know which internet providers have Mexican ips since some of you seem to be having problems with some providers giving you a us ip.

Re: Official Rosarito Thread

Me and my wife will be driving down to rosarito at the end of the month from oc. ( we are a young couple not old btw lol 30-25 ) Our lease is up at the end of the month and gotta start working again asap...

I read this thread and banking in mexico thread but just to verify I will have some questions;

1. We are looking at a furnished 1br or 2br at a price up to 1000 usd in a safe-guarded beach front complex for 3 months contract or month to month option... I checked baja123.com there are good options but if you guys have something in mind or have a rental in your complex, would love to be with other poker players nearby... I feel like it makes everything easier for both parts...

2. I`m confused about banking situation since there are some opposite posts regarding this;
* What is the best option for having a usd bank account with english supported online banking? and what are the requirements ( passport and rental contarct enough to do that?
* Is there a minimum amount that I have to deposit while opening the bank account? does it change bank to bank?
* Since I`m a Turkish citizen with green card, I am planning to sign up for neteller and have their atm card for withdrawals or maybe moneybookers. Anybody has experience with it? What kind of docementation neteller and moneybookers ask for?

3. Which internet provider should I go that provides mexican ip`s?

4. Can I put one of my 23 inch monitor into the car and cross the border with it? I never crossed the border to mexico so I don`t even know if you just drive or stop to have visa on the border?!

I`ll really appreciate info on these since I gotta tell the whole game plan to my wife before we make the move you know how it is...

Thanks a lot! Hope to meet u guys down there!

At that price you're going to get beachfront, extremely nice, 24/7 security, and either gated or garaged parking. Baja123 has plenty of places that'd fit your needs, but it can be tough for them to organize viewings of some houses (getting in touch with other realtor and owner). I think it's a good idea to just go to a few condo complexes and ask them if they have anything available as well. You must do at least 3 months for stars verification purposes. They've let month to month leases fly before, but they specifically asked others to include the page of the lease agreement that states how long.

Mostly depends on location, but I could recommend Las olas mar y sol, maybe la jolla del mar, las gaviotas, mission viejo, las ventanas, calafia....there's tons of places for you to start looking

2. I`m confused about banking situation since there are some opposite posts regarding this;
* What is the best option for having a usd bank account with english supported online banking? and what are the requirements ( passport and rental contarct enough to do that?
I really don't know, and only really got a bank so that stars would take me back. Banamex, Santander, HSBC I believe are banks that confirmed will open an account for you. I need some 6 digit PIN before I can use online banking, and just haven't cared enough yet. You need passport, rental contract, utility bill, references (just write down 2 names of people you do or do not know, it doesn't matter.) For utility bill pretty much anything goes, I've been told that a utility bill from my house in the US would work (HSBC), and my roommates here have used a utility bill with my name on it but not theirs and it worked (Santander)

Santander it was 6000 pesos...but you open your account and then go to someone else to deposit money, so there is really no actual need to deposit cash to open an account. Lots of weird rules about deposit limits..the HUSNG guys know exactly, but I think 5k deposit limit monthly (which blows if you play 1k SnGs.

I have no idea about neteller, as I heard we couldn't use their services and I forget why, but maybe because we don't have FM2-3 cards? Moneybookers is easy to setup. You sign up and then verify your debit cards, bank account, and address with them to increase your transaction limits. Turkish citizen may allow you to use Neteller, but everyone down here only has experience with MB

3. Which internet provider should I go that provides mexican ip`s?

Telnor works fine, but was a ***** to get setup (needed landlord approval basically, wasn't too bad if someone just told us what to do from the beginning). Baja Wireless is supossed to be good, but expensive...they install a big ass antennae on your roof...the HUSNG guys just got it installed.
I think Multi Cable was the one with routing issues, but they got it resolved anyways like this week or last

4. Can I put one of my 23 inch monitor into the car and cross the border with it? I never crossed the border to mexico so I don`t even know if you just drive or stop to have visa on the border?!

My roommate was worried about this too, but yea, you're fine. He had PS3, 3-4 monitors, projection screen, etc. You can honestly bring as much electronics, weed, guns, rare exotic animals, or strawberry milk into mexico as you want, nobody ever checks you.

I`ll really appreciate info on these since I gotta tell the whole game plan to my wife before we make the move you know how it is...

Thanks a lot! Hope to meet u guys down there!
