Maybe poolside BBQ afterwards, our final 2 roommates are gonna be moving down so that may be a nice way to chill, and i bought tons of hamburgers and hot dogs and charcoal yesterday

Lol, I met Scott and Jonathan yesterday. That's a pic of me in my avatar.

Has anyone been to the Tijuana casino? Do they have poker?

I can dodge bullets baby.

Yeah it's prob best not to go to any casinos right now just incase. I just got approved from stars, got my phone call etc. Just waiting for "final approval" even though the girl from PS said there most likely won't be any kind of problem and I should be up playing by tonight or tomorrow at the latest.

Now to figure out how to fund my account

How does this work...can you not just deposit directly from your Mexi account? You may have to go to the bank to get routing numbers and any other info?
(I just got xfer'd $ so I really don't know but am curious)

lucky you, after waiting two weeks they just officially declined me today even though I gave them a boatload of evidence that I'm genuinely down here. Its been super frustrating how slow they've been with me so far and now I'm going to go have to sort things out somehow.

Why'd u get declined? If you're supernova+ you can PM PS Chris and he will put you at the top of the list.

big waves tomorrow...great for surfers...below is quoted from ap...

A storm that roared to life off Antarctica will produce large surf and hazardous rip currents in north San Diego County Thursday through the Labor Day weekend, with surf in the 5' to 8' range, says Surfline.com. Some sets could reach 10'.

The biggest surf will hit beaches that face to the southwest.

Rosarito is seriously tempting as it's close to my socal family and friends, but I'm afraid I'll feel kinda stuck in whatever condo/complex I wind up in...

Is this an issue for you guys? Feeling trapped at all or is it actually pretty chill?

Trapped? I live in a condo and I go walking around town everyday trying new restaurants, walking into random shops etc. Not to mention there's the beach 50 feet away. I don't even have a car and I dont feel trapped. It's a fun experience just going to another city/country where you don't really know anyone. It's kind of freeing.

Yeah I get that - been in Euroland three months now and debating between moving to SE Asia or South America when my visa runs out here. Rosarito has the huge bonus of being near my old home base and friends but is more expensive than some other options, less exotic by far, and possibly kinda sketch. Just wondering how live-able it is, sorry if that comes off wrong.

Rosarito can't be too much more than Thailand or w/e. I would feel more trapped in SE Asia:

brutal heat/humidity means high electric bill for AC and stay indoors most of day
increasingly tougher Thai visa regulations
Thai way harder to learn (let alone read/write) than Spanish
poker and bananas not legal (in Thailand at least)
way farther away from "civilization"

Seems like Mexico would be good place to learn Spanish if you're considering moving to South America. I doubt Rosarito's more dangerous than Rio or Lima or BA, but I could be wrong.

hey definitely interested in trying this for a month before 2012, was looking at the condo posted a while up, (the cheap one) and it looks like there's $475 in fees/taxes (for ~800/month place) is this standard and now that you guys have kind of a mini-community there maybe getting hotels first couple nights then renting something when you get there is more feasible?

I live drivable to Rosarito, so it would be fun to do as an extended holiday and see how doable living down there is. I studied spanish in HS/College and while most of its gone due to lack of practice, i can muster up something if i see a spanish-speaker abroad (LOL my accent) and i'm assuming I could pick it up faster than if I had no previous knowledge; for those that have been there longer are you guys trying to learn and hows it going?

anything around 500/mo for a place is gonna be pretty damn baller. look at some pics from las olas grand and that's insanely nice, completely over the top luxury and awesome. We're paying 345 each for a dope 6th story condo on the beach, all rooms have ocean views.

Staying at a hotel for a few days would be completely fine. Me and OD seemed to have a similar experience with the helpfulness of realtors in getting set up, they'll drive you around everywhere and make sure you get settled in before and after the move. There's also a lot of people here already or on their way, so being able to crash with someone for a couple days prob wouldn't be an issue.

For the guy who said he wants to come here for a month...i think that's a bad idea. Getting bank account/cell phone/car insurance/life things/setup on stars takes at least a week to begin with, and it seems odd to just bounce right when ur getting settled in.

I'm trying to learn more spanish, and think I've made alot of progress in the last couple weeks. I really just wanna get a spanish chick for like a month and this that would get me close to fluent just having her around all the time.

Ya somehow I don't see a month getting you close to fluent.

Having spent a lot of time in Rosarito, I'd definitely consider it more dangerous than Buenos Aires, but it still isn't that bad really.

Rosarito is an incredibly touristy town, around spring break or Labor Day weekend it will be just absolutely packed with college kids. Middle of the week in December, it will be totally dead.

Really it isn't the most ideal place to live because it is so touristy and the beach is kinda ****ty, but I could see given it's combination of cheap+close to the USA it would be a good place for a lot of people.

I do expect you guys to get bored pretty quickly though unless you are the type to just grind and party all day.

Still, it might make my shortlist for somewhere to live for ~3 months, but long term? I dunno.

Nice to hear from someone who has spent a lot of time there. About how long ago were you last there?

What about Rosarito is most dangerous? Assuming you don't walk alone at 3 a.m. in a dark alley in the bad part of town... what are the big dangers?

I'm not so worried about boredom, but can see how it could be boring.

I've got like 7 years of mostly forgotten spanish from middle/high school/college, and have lived/travelled through latin america for 9 months. not starting from scratch here, although I've forgotten 'proper' spanish and mostly just speak with a mix of catalunya, nicaraguan, mexican and colombian slang.

What's with all the troll posts with people hating on mexico?

I really don't understand people's fascination with boredom. It's all in your mind, for one, and secondly there is tons to do here. There's great surf, fishing, food, scenery, people, clubs, scuba diving, movie theaters, snorkeling, strip clubs, tide pools, caves, sand dunes, hangglding, paragliding, great place for windsurfing... Tijuana is a city of like 2 million people with more things to do...I guess we're going to a chicken fight soon!? Plus being 30 mins from the border means you aren't trapped in cabo or cancun which is hours away from anywhere, and can cruise up to san diego, orange county, los angeles for daytrips, and even vegas isn't too far for a weekend trip.

oh, and the ganja
