I've been doing a small bit of searching for the best way to learn Spanish. As Boliver was saying it's about learning conversational Spanish not how to conjugate stuff. A product called Pimsleur seems to be better than like Rosetta Stone. Rosetta Stone cd's want you to read the screen and click on the screen. You are clicking on poker tables and don't have time for that junk. Pimsleur cd's you just listen to them and the main goal is to get you speaking and understanding conversational Spanish. I haven't ordered it but just thought I'd throw out what my quick search found.

The best way is probably Pimsleur, get a tutor, make yourself never speak English. It's really easy here to get away with very minimal Spanish so you have to really want to learn and be dedicated.

Find a Mexican Girlfriend, that's the easiest and fun way to learn Spanish.

I'll be going to a medium-shelf dentist sometime soon to fix a little chip in my tooth. I'll keep ya posted, but with alot of things down here just talk to some local people, whether it's your waiter's, security guards, landlord, whoever...everybody knows somebody that does everything. Get a few reccommendations then check em out is prob ur best bet...depending on what kind of work you want done.

this. Most of the girls I see around town are reeeaaally young lookin schoolgirls. And by the way what's the legal age for guys in their 20's to hook up with girls down here? I heard 15? Not sure if it would be looked upon too highly from the other locals though :-/

I'm just getting back from Colombia right now, and over there it's common for everyone to gather in the streets, a big plaza, or parks and everyone drinks outside and socializes and it's easy to interact with locals. I haven't really seen much of that in Rosarito or tijuana, or maybe us gringo's just don't know the spots. It seems mostly nightclubs and discoteca's and such, which isn't so much my scene.

I'm planning on going to the local skatepark alot and making friends with the locals, eventually hanging out with them and getting introduced to local girls in a non scumbag way.
I see alot of kids hanging out on the little beaches around town and drinking, but seems awkward to just walk up and holler at em..

And bust..I'll also ask our friend JD, he's lived in TJ for 5 years and has had his fair share of novias before he settled down with wifey

I would guess the best dentists will be in TJ. There is a big market for Americans crossing the border for dental/medical work. Have heard they are very good, but were across from Arizona border. Don't know any specific ones, please post if anyone finds one.

pretty hard to goggle it...

The age of consent in Mexico is complex. Typically, Mexican states have a "primary" age of consent (which may be as low as 12), and sexual conduct with persons below that age is always illegal. Sexual relations between adults and teenagers are left in a legal gray area: laws against adults "corrupting" minors may be used sometimes to punish such sexual encounters, as well as laws against engaging in sexual relations with "chaste and honest" teenage girls by means of "seduction". These laws are situational and are subject to interpretation.

I'm definitely leaning more and more toward moving down to rosarito in early january after finishing up the SNE grind up here in Canada this year (that is if I havent lost my mind playing this f*ckign CAP)

Glad to hear you guys in this thread that are actually there all keep saying saftey is a non issue. I haven't seen anyone in this thread that's IN rosarito say it is sketch, but I keep hearing others that aren't there yet say it is. I'm going to go with those of you that are already there.

Going to be bringing my wife down with me as well and she is WAY too tiny and petite to break any one's noses so attempt to bang away.

Cant wait to get down there, Canada is boring as **** and these ****ers keep trying to turn my football games off for CFL or for hockey when I'm watching the screens at the bars.

uh, your wife is about the same size as my chick, she just has to put some leg/hip/shoulder into it.

Oh and sorry thread for the derail. WAs a dumb comment made on a really bad day at a really bad time. Normally I wouldn't even care, was just terrible timing. Won't derail again.

Also still plan on moving there, barring something crazy happening. We plan on heading down soon to check things out before moving. Maybe even the first week or two of december.

Tbh, if I was bringing a girl to Mexico to live, I would choose PLaya Del Carmen or somewhere around there. Rosarito is cool and all, but it's really not very beautiful/romantic etc. The beach kind of sucks tbh. Really cold water and you can't even see through it!

Perks are its easy to get here/close to the border.

I don't mean to be the wet blanket, and I was just down there personally to visit someone so obviously I feel it is somewhat safe, but as a long time veteran of Mexico trips, I just want to say it is important to do the little things like keep a low profile, etc. This story I saw yesterday in the SD paper was pretty sobering.

What's sobering about that? People get murdered on a daily basis in Anytown, USA and nobody makes a big deal of it but one white boy gets nixed in Mexico and it becomes sobering?

You should keep a low profile wherever you reside.

There's no such thing as a molar specialist. You should go to a general dentist (DDS) and if you need to see a specialist for anything (perio, endo, etc) your DDS will refer you. Schedule a consultation first and if anything seems sketchy (like they tell you that you need a lot of work done) then you should go elsewhere for a second opinion before agreeing to a procedure.

This DDS has received a lot of good reviews and speaks English (he's French)

I work in dentistry here in the US so if you have any questions about anything I can try to help. I'm not a dentist but I work closely with three doctors in our practice and they are happy to help however they can.
