Sounds like a nice plan, but I wouldn't be posting these intentions on a public forum....as far as they are concerned, you're still on the hook for all the income you make.

Miguel I give you credit realizing the poker players will continue to come. Good job getting on the biggest poker forum in the world.
Thank You, did you already try Ollie's?

The food is excellent! Italian sausage and peppers pizza and the BBQ chicken pizza. The pizzas are approximately 10" across. Delish!

Richard (the owner) also comped with a sparklingly-fresh arugula salad that had one-inch width Parmesan cheese shavings covering the top.

If you like beer ask for Choppe Negra (on tap) that kept fizzing for five minutes.

Just got my flight booked for November 1st. Anybody fly into San Diego and then hoof it down to Mexico? That's what myself and Starting Gun are doing, so looking for any info on easiest way to do so.

Other question is how do I get my desktop down there? I think I'm too much of a pussy to put it in a suitcase and put it on a plane, but if a bunch of you have done that and its been fine then meh, I might do it. If not, what's another way to get it down there? Fedex/UPS deliver down there or would it have to go to a PO box or something in San Diego and then be picked up?

Would highly recommend contacting Miguel Sedano, definitely has been by far the best realtor that I've talked to out of Rosarito Beach and Cabo area realtors.

How exactly are you "hoofing it down to Mexico" from the SD airport? Just curious...Cabbing it with your luggage and/or desktop?

As for the desktop/monitor, whether you decide to ship it or fly with it, the key is to have it packed properly in foam/bubble tape/cardboard etc. I would pay to have it done at your local UPS store or someone else reliable(and then save the materials for re-packing when you leave).

As for shipping, I think Boliver said the best way to get stuff is to go through a company in San Diego that delivers mail to MX. Pretty sure there is no reliable mail delivery in Mexico including Fedex or UPS.

is everyone down there a single dude? I want to move there with my girl, but if every poker player is just there alone, that might be pretty lame for her. I already made her move to vegas with no friends, then vancouver with no friends.

Now to mexico with no friends, seems pretty lame.

@ Bolded Part: That's what I'm asking....what's the easiest way to do so. I thought I saw somewhere theres some greyhound buses that go from San Diego to Tijuana so obv we would pass through Rosarito and have to backtrack 15 mins once we got there, but it's well worth it if its gonna save $300 roundtrip. If not a bus, I'd assume just cabbing it to the border is next best idea, but like I said, that's why I'm asking.

And sounds good, seems like easiest thing to do is just fly with it, I'm just scared to death of doing that. Will have to look into it some more I suppose. Also think it'll be easier getting through border if I don't have a friggin $800 desktop with me, which is actually a bigger reason why I'd like to just ship it, but maybe I'm just being paranoid since I got turned away at the Canadian border

Rosarito is further south than Tijuana...Tijuana is right after you cross the border, so you would get a bus/cab there, then another one to take you to Rosarito.

Ah cool, I couldn't remember which way it went, but knew one was farther south and that they're not that far apart from each other.

Obv I haven't done any research yet besides finding a place to live because im lazy/dumb

I'm thinking of getting a PO box near the border to ship things to, then I'll pick up my packages and take the ride down. Just seems like a logistical nightmare to try to lug my stuff through airports.

The issue you probably had at the Canadian border regarding your desktop probably won't come into play at the Mexican border...from my understanding, the worst that happens is they charge you duty on it, but they're not gonna get upset that you are planning to stay in Mexico, which I assume is the problem you had up north (I wouldn't mind a link to the TR either!).

Flying with your stuff and renting a car seems like by far the easiest choice...as an alternative to that, I might look into hiring a car in SD that will take you to Rosarito...To me it seems like a nightmare trying to get down here via public transportation, but I'm sure others have done similar, so maybe they have a better plan.

Dude the border is no issue! Go through the do not declare lines and you will have zero issues. I had a 50 inch TV visible on my back seat as well as all my electronics. There is nobody even stopping ya coming in.

This is true, but I've also heard there's a non-zero chance of getting stopped with them looking for electronics specifically, in which case they might try to charge you duty on your items...

Alright cool, I guess flying with it is seeming better now, like I said, just paranoid after Canada debacle. Thanks for the info though Shane, appreciate it.

Haha wow sick, yea I need to quit being a baby, just super paranoid after Canada.

________________________________________

Since I've gotten 2 pm's about it and 3 have posted ITT, here comes a short version of what happened in Canada.

I drove up to the Flint crossing on July 3rd from my home in Illinois, had my car full with ps3/xbox360/laptop/52" tv on my backseat. I get to the border crossing about 2am, which right there is my first mistake as I'd guess if I went through midday when it was busy, I would have a way higher chance of getting through. I was the only car there at the time, and when I drove up to the window, the guy asked me why I was coming up. I said "I'm coming up here to visit my friends for a short while." He goes right into asking me how I know these friends since they're Canadian and I'm from the US, and I already knew what I'd say back to this...I go "I play online games with them, mostly SC2 but we also play CoD together and NHL together on a team." Honestly I don't mind my story, I mean, wtf else am I going to say besides the truth, which is certainly the optimal play here IMO after living through lying at the border.

Anyway, I end up being detained and they ask me directly if I'm a poker player and I tell them no, which once again, if I woulda told the truth, maybe I woulda gotten through but I'm doubting it..this guy seemed to have something against poker/gambling. Anyway, they end up searching my car, while continuing to question me, and they found 8 of the FTP KO a pro shirts in my suitcase. So the guy goes "Why'd you lie to me boy? You're gong home NOW! Go inside and sit down and wait."

So, after a couple minutes, when I knew I was for sure going home, the guy comes in and asks me what that was in my car and I made a dickish remark (once again, knowing I was being sent home so it didn't matter) that "Well, they look like tshirts to me." That got the guy to go into a rant about online poker being rigged which I found quite funny, and I ended up having to sign a waver to go home on my own or he said he would arrest me (not sure they could really do that but w/e).

So yea, thats a kinda short TR, was a fun night, 7 hr drive up, 1 hr at the border, and a 7 hr drive straight home..fml!

Why is every1 talking about them making you pay for electronics etc. Both times I have crossed the border there's no one there that even is close enough to see inside your car, yet alone anyone who would search your trunk.

They do send cars from time to time to the far left lane to get searched. Last time I crossed, they stepped in front of my car and sent the van next to me over there. So it could happen, but if it does just pay. It's by far your best chance of getting things in without paying.

I have flown 5+ times with my desktop in my suitcase. I just take the hard drive out and put a bunch of towels around it and ive never had any problems.

Anyone know somebody that is looking to relocate to Rosarito? It has been a bitch getting the last room filled....

Any potential roommate can't play 400-1000PLO and the same limits for NLHE at 6 max. It blows that we can't sit at the same table if we share IP address So any limit, SNG, MTT, hi/lo, etc are welcome; or someone that plays really high stakes or really low stakes PLO or NLHE. The rent is $350/month + utilities... holla if you know someone.

I am just basing it mostly on what Miguel told me (and I thought I heard it somewhere else too).

Two is kind of a small sample size. Even if you add up everyone's experience, the sample is small, and I was just pointing out that there's a "non-zero chance" according to what I have heard.

Unrelated possibly insane question--is there a way to get from Rosarito to San Diego by boat?
