Can't help you but I'm pretty sure we don't really need a visa. Maybe we are supposed to have it, but I can't imagine any trouble if you don't.

Plus given how long everything takes here, I can't imagine it's something you want to waste a bunch of time doing.

I believe for an FMM you have to get it at the border.

Santander confirmed needs a gas/electric bill in your name to open a US Dollar account. No other bill will do. If it isn't in your name, you can only open a peso account. As best as I can tell, PS/MB USD->Santander MXN->USA USD is going to cost me 6-7% in vig when all is said and done. Obviously looking into other countries to open USD accounts in now.

you have to get your FMM at the border first. I believe it's a yellow building to the right as soon as you cross. It's like $20 something bucks. After you get this, you can either apply yourself or have one of many agencies in town help you apply for an FM-2 or 3. I think FM-3. The laws are changing around FM-2/3's all the time i guess, and I heard that in a few months FM-2's would be replaced with another different system. Because of all the changes and confusion, I'd talk to an agency if you want to be legit and get the FM-2, see if they say you SHOULD even get one or if you should just wait a bit until the laws change.

fwiw you don't actually need an FM-2 or 3 or any kind. Nobody in mexico is gonna give a **** that you're living there. If you were alot deeper in mexico it may be a problem. Getting one does give you a mexican photo ID, which is kinda legit, but I'd say 90% of us aren't getting one.

Has anyone who has actually gotten an FM-2/3 post here? If so PM me. I have a bit of a weird situation where it could possibly be very advantageous to have one depending on what my tax guy says. Thanks.
