Calafia is another, OverDose lives in La Jolla de rosarito and likes it. Marena and Las Palmas are others. These are all skyrises.

Condo complexes are las ventanas, las gaviotas, mission viejo, la paloma... many many more.

If you just want to book something online that's great, you can pretty much tell how sick all the places are from the price. Good to ask about location though, if that matters to you. Obviously coming here directly and looking on your own you'll have access to probably 10 other complexes that aren't listed online from what I can tell.

There's prob 10 skyrise condo's that are similar, and another 10 condominium complexes that are similar.
good input ty!

The internet is kinda slow. And I have premium and its only a 2mb connection. Hopefully its fast enough to 24 table.

Snowboarding is only like 3 hours away, and friends/family all live in LA as well, plus just being able to drive 30 minutes and be back in America if we ever feel the need.
Spoke to a poker player from mexico. He suggested Puerto Vallarta, said it was safe and amazing. He also said PDC was safe too. I had done a lot of research and felt that Rosarito was safe for the most part, but the mexican player said that it was too close to Tijuana for him to think it was that safe (but he did admit he wasn't sure about this).

I agree with Bolivar that Puerto Vallarta seems like the best choice, but the convenience of being close to the states is hard to beat. Plus I know that some people from the states retire to Rosarito, so if that's true, how dangerous can it be?

Speaking of bomb pizza it would be awesome if anyone already there could do trip reports.

For example list anything that you experienced in Rosarito worth mentioning
-great food/restaurant's/food delivery
-cool club/bar
-good rental spot quads/jet skis
-local cab driver/company that treats you good
-concierge services
-local hot spots
-boobie bars good/bad experience
-good informational websites based on area
-topless beach locations
-cheap in house services cleaning/cook/masseuse/tour guide
-banking/internet provider/cable & satellite t.v./telephone land line/realtor's

any pics/video's you guys are taking while your there that you don't mind sharing in the thread would be awesome!

Has anyone considered ensenada or san felipe in baja? Still close to US border and from what I hear safer than Rosarito. You have a lot of US citizens who are retired and on fixed incomes who moved there.

Im in OC and curious about Rosarito but I do know friends and family who have had trouble there with the cartels. You get the overflow from TJ and white-looking people are the 1st targets. Especially if you have US plates and give any appearance of having money (i.e. Living in a beachfront condo)

I need to make a decision asap as im down to my last 10k of cash bankroll as all my other funds are tied up on FTP.

Its kinda hard tho cuz I have a wife and 2 kids here that ill be leavin behind.

Rosarito has had no tourist issues for a very long time. There will only be problems if you go looking for them. I have been researching all the areas and I don't think you will find a much better bang for your buck close enough to the USA. There were 2 shooting deaths there in last 12 months and they involved local's only. Hell there were 3 murders in my town in AZ last week. Do the math. Your condo is gated and has 24 hour security.

Ensanada doesn't seem to offer much that I can see.

There seems to be allot of grinders there/moving there and having like minded people around you is better than being in a remote place with nobody to talk strategy with, learn from etc..

Gl to you and your family!

I just moved down here with boliver, the place is great and we've been out just about everyday being here and I haven't felt unsafe so far. As for San Felipe its about double the distance from where you are. I actually moved here from OC too and it took less than 3 hours to get here (probably closer to two). I'm going back home tomorrow for my moms birthday and ill grab my camera and upload some pics by mon/tues. You are welcome to come by and check the place out and see how you like the environment its very close to where you are now.

I got a USD checking account today at Santander. The only thing I needed was my passport and a utility bill. I got a phone line at telnor for 15 a month and that was good enough.

I assume everyone uses bottled water, even to brush teeth and wash veggies, etc.?

Is everything within walking distance of a couple miles (supermarkets, restaurants, utility offices, govt. offices, etc.)?

I'm looking seriously at Rosarito for January, should know for sure by Halloween.

Yeah everything is in walking distance. I dont have a car at all here. Some places have a filter so you dont have to use bottled water. My place doesn't so I just bought a few jugs for drinking and brushing teeth. Its really cheap so it's not too big of deal.

ensenada could be cool, there's alot of fun stuff to do there. I feel like most of the things I would go there for would be for fun daytrips and such though where I don't mind driving the 40 mins or so. Don't know much about san felipe, but it's 3-4 hours from the border. At that point im just going to move further south in mexico and fly to get places.

Sorry for being brash, but people need to stfu already about safety issues. If you are a sheltered american influenced by media hype and worried about things, then stay home. I realize that many poker players could fall into this category, others are simply concerned about travelling to a new place and would like some info, and others like me really don't care, because they know that 90% of the places in the world that safety isn't going to be a concern for them if they aren't ******ed and have any kind of logic and street smarts. I would much rather focus my attention on what attractions/travel opportunities/food/activites there are to do in any given city...isn't that the point of travelling??

For those players who lock themselves in their room and grind 60 hours of poker, 40 hours of Call of Duty, and 20 hours of masturbation and call it a week... you are screwed...have fun grinding on merge and bodog because relocating just isn't for you, so stop trying to force it. Black friday really didn't affect me at all, as I couldn't wait to finish grad school and move to a new country to play poker anyways.

I've personally been to Mexico City, Oaxaca, San Cristobal de las casas, Palenque, and a few other places in mexico, as well as travelled pretty extensively throughout central america, and rosarito is no worse than any of these places. Tijuana is no worse than any of these places. I think there is an extremely tiny difference between safety issues in tijuana and rosarito, and that's simply the difference between living in a city with over 2 million people and a city with less than a hundred thousand. Same with living in New York City or upstate new york. Chicago compared to the suberbs. It's a different life, sure...but people are still just humans trying to live their lives. Maybe I'm naive for having faith in humanity, but in the ~25 countries I've been to so far I've experienced almost zero problems...and I generally get into alot of crazy **** and hang out with locals everywhere I go, and I'm a scrawny ass white kid.

That being said, prob 80% of the people I have been in contact with through 2p2 would probably agree that I've been very helpful when it comes to daily life/getting back on stars, getting acquainted with mexico, setting up their new lives, etc. I do this because I want to create a cool community of players living in mexico that have similar interests, in poker and life. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you need help, a realtor referral, advice on where to get a bank accout/cell phone/car insurance/good seafood/clubs/strip clubs.....

I use tap water for ice, brushing my teeth, washing my face, etc. I don't just chug it when I'm thirsty though. I've done this in every country I've been to (mostly 3rd world, and most I just drink the water anyways) and got sick once in guatemala, but pretty sure that was from this taco stand I had like 4 meals in a row from.

There are different little parasites in US tap water and in Mexican tap water. They take some getting used to, which is why I like to introduce them into my system in small portions.

Love posts like these. I've never been out of the US but I don't have any fear of traveling abroad and have been waiting for an opportunity to get some culture.

Can you give us a breakdown of your expenses? Like electricity, internet, cable, phone, food (if you prepare your own meals), etc?
