Are there any black people on Rosarito? I have read in this thread the town is pretty friendly towards Americans, but do you think they'd be friendly towards a black american?

don't think I've seen a black person since coming to Rosarito.

i have to imagine mexicans would be just as friendly to all races, but not positive o_0

since Ive been down here (14 months), I've seen several black people, but maybe only 1 or two asians (other than poker players). No idea if they get treated better/worse/same down here. Id imagine the same/fine tho, most people down here are very friendly

You ever been to L.A.?

Ive only seen black American dudes in TJ. Ive seen a few Caribbean black guys in Rosa. Oh wait there was a grinder in rosa too. It's a tourist town here and theyre friendly to pretty much everyone. I think most of the racism that exists here is in terms of lighter skinned Spaniard Mexicans usually being in white collar jobs and darker skinned indigenous Mexicans being in menial labor. Carryover from from the casta system the Spaniards put in place. But if you're American, speak English and have money I think youll be treated fine.

Starting to look at places to stay for the WSOP. I'm planning on staying June and July (moving to Rosa in May or August, depending on circumstances). If any of you guys/girls are interested in maybe renting a place with my girl and I, please hmu.

I don't think comparing L.A. mexicans to Rosarito mexicans is fair

I avoid L.A. like the plague because everyone there sucks equally

Like 2 blocks off the main street (opposite ocean side obvs) as you get into town coming from the south, iirc turn right 1-2 block after the bananorte and its back there, they close early tho

Last time I went to the US, they hassled me a lot at San Ysidro-- asking in an accusing tone why I was going to Mexico so much (had a US border crossing about 1x a month for the last 6 months), if I was transporting something, etc. Even though I have nothing to hide, I found the experience very stressful. I am a US citizen.

I was wondering what everyone says when they cross the border. I've yet to mention that I play poker on the internetz in Mexico, but would that be a good idea? Thoughts for avoiding harassment?

Any help appreciated, thanks!

Obviously. Tell the truth. I've had zero border agents give me grief because I'm polite and straightforward.

I'm surprised by your experience: I cross more often than once a month, and they've never given me a hassle for the frequency of my crossings. Poker comes up sometimes, and usually they are more interested in the profession than randomly suspicious of anything associated with it.

You probably just got a jerk of a border guard, chalk it up to variance. Also--Otay Mesa FTW.

"I play online poker and travel to Mexico to do so b/c I can't access the major sites from the US anymore." "They got in a legal tiff with the US government, and reached a settlement that they can't come back to the US until there's regulation." Etc.

Some of the younger BP agents crack a big insta-smile. A few will follow up out of interest. Some will ask if you win a lot, are bringing back cash, etc.

They're trained to read body language, so if you're being incongruent about why you're in Mexico, it's reason for them to press you further. +1 on just being truthful.

And +1 that you simply get a BP Agent in a bad mood from time-to-time. Most are professional and friendly enough, at least.

First time posting in this thread. I've read it cover to cover. I'm psyched about fish tacos, USD cashouts, and warmer weather. I'm not psyched about weird Tijuana drama, tsunamis, and the tap water.

I will be moving to Rosarito within a month or two at the latest. I have been in contact with Miguel, and will first be looking at living in Las Olas, Calafia, or possibly Palacio del Mar. The purpose of my post is to find a potential roommate for one of these 2 or 3 bedroom residences.

I'll be 33-years young by the time I arrive. I have a very awesome and friendly dog who will be coming with. I was a 180 man SNG grinder, turned to live grinder, who will now be playing mid-high stakes MTTs. I plan on traveling back and forth from Rosarito to Vegas and L.A. to continue to play live when not online. have a background in small business, and poker isn't my only life.

I don't smoke anything... Not looking for smoker roomies, no offense. I drink on occasion, but not while I'm playing, and I will have a worthy vehicle to go exploring. I'm also keeping my house in Colorado, and will travel back and forth from time to time. I'm setting this place up as a long-term residence, and looking for someone who is probably in it for the long-haul rather than trying it out for a month or two.

I'm pretty easy going, and not your typical grinder. Very health conscious (runner/lifter/good eater) and clean. I won't be on the party scene, but I will grind 3-4 days a week, and either be enjoying the scenery or traveling to see friends in California on my off days. I speak a basic level of Spanish. I've spent time in Playa Del Carmen in the past.

Please reply with details about yourself, your budget, your bankroll, and whatever questions you may have for me.

Look forward to meeting more of you in time.

Cheers,
Dan

For the people who cross the border a lot, did you get a visa at all? Do they ever ask you for it? Have you ever needed it at all?
