A pen.

Or if you have a phone book and can find one of their offices, they would probably lend you a pen.

I have read through this entire thing... Very thorough. I still have a couple questions. First of all, has no one here thought to just grow their own bananas? Is bringing Cali bananas back across the border really that safe? I've never driven across the border, so I'm clueless.

Also, I saw a couple guys say they were from Long Beach and I am too, so...shout out LB.

Nobody cares about what you bring in Mexico. You just cross the border with anything in your car nobody looks at anything or asks you anything. It's only when coming back that you are being checked.

That sounds like really bad advice. Telling someone that something is zero risk when there is a risk doesn't seem like wise posting. Didn't some poker player spend months in a Mexican prison because of drugs in his car? USA prison = bad. Mexican prison = much worse.

I don't remember the thread, but it was something like, guy was bringing a whole bunch of routers and servers in his car to set up a network of computers in MX. All the computer equipment caught eye of MX border agent and they searched his car. His dumb ass buddy had drugs on him and they ended up MX prison.

Found it. Strange story if true. Link.....

My car was searched pretty thoroughly my first time coming in, you are more likely to be searched if your car is full of moving stuff. That being said had I wanted to bring drugs I could have just hid them somewhere good and I would feel confident they wouldn't find them.

I thought that sounded off and that someone would shed some more light. If you have more info on the banana situation, please share.

I have a couple other questions if anyone wouldn't mind sharing their wisdom:

At this point, is there a consensus "best" building/community to live in? How about a consensus "best" way to bank and exchange currency? Is it advantageous to have noth MX USD and MX Peso accounts?

How does one deal with the tax situation when you bring the money back to a bank in the states?

I won't be down until next summer, but plan on making a trip down before then to check out places and get an idea of the lay of the land, and I want to be well schooled on everything before I move.

Growing your own bananas is a lot more work, time and money than it's worth imo. Power is also super expensive down here compared to the states.

new high score at otay mesa port of entry for getting into america today

from the intersection of carretera federal 2D and loz aztecas to USA took 3 minutes. we were the 2nd car in line. empty everywhere at 3:30pm

so far my otay travel times are:
2h 30m
0h 3m

pretty solid standard deviation there

I gathered it's pretty safe there from reading this thread, but everyone I speak too about Rosarito/Tijuana says otherwise...

Could someone enlighten me on the overall consensus down there? Thanks alot.

Lol you should listen to the people ITT that ACTUALLY live here, not to the random people in the US or elsewhere.

It's completely safe, this thread has gotten really dumb lately (not aimed at you shipit)

Response bias though...the poker players who have already been abducted by the cartel cant respond in the thread and say its safe.

This.

If you go looking for trouble its there. And that applies anywhere(even in the states!) Be smart, have a good time, enjoy the laid back beach atmosphere and you'll be fine. Everyone I've ran into here is very nice and more than willing to help. Great spot to play online poker imo.
