I'd make sure you get a condo that has a garage. Some have just covered parking and I think that's a bad idea with a new Benz. Besides that you will be fine imo.

i was told to leave my porsche at home by just about everyone including a mexican native to the area who was extremely helpful in getting me setup in rosarito. as everyone else has said the place is completely safe otherwise

honestly though, i don't even think its the worst idea to have a nicer car down here if its in a semi-secure location because i think this place is completely legit, maybe i'm being naive. for different and personal reasons though i'm glad i don't have a car down here now though - everything is within very short walking distance of the apartment complex i live in and a car would just offer complexity and an annoying expense i don't have to worry about for now.

Moving as soon as I find a good living situation. If anyone is moving soon or needs a roommate send me a pm.

Wow skillz nice to see your so happy!!! I guess you are up and running on Stars now.

I was wondering if there was an update on any of the internet providers in Rosarito having a Mexican Ip address yet? Can anyone confirm this yet? Thanks for your help!

I'd say ur fine if you move into a nice place...and if you have a new benz ur probably looking on the upper end of things. The guys at las olas have nice bmw's and lex's.

Imo, when it comes down to it bringing a nicer car here is NOT about security, that will be fine...but it's about subjecting your car to the road conditions down here. There are random potholes, dips, and speedbumps that **** your car up if u drive alot down here. I'd think about that before thinking about how safe your car is...but also consider how often you drive. If you go to the grocery store once a week there will be very minimal damage, but I plan on driving down to ensenada, up to tijuana alot, out to surf, scuba dive...and will be driving alot and fully realize that it'll **** up my car....a ****tier lexus that I don't care about.

hanging out with some people down here in rosarito just solved the problem for me - buy an aircard... i wish i even knew these things existed before this. its a foolproof plan because it will give you a guaranteed internet connection and mexican IP. if, for example, the power goes out but you have a laptop with battery - then the aircard saves you.

our provider still has not switched over despite his promise to do so a week ago, but I don't care because I have an aircard... even if it switches over I still think I'm going to have an aircard on hand - for travel, power outages and whatever else may arise.

& yea i am happier now though that i've been able to play. i'm honestly still bitter about having to wait a month playing starcraft 2, but I just ft'd 'the big $109' today and got 5th for 5.5k so I'm catching up

I saw someone post a cheap house the other day that looked pretty cool. I found this and thought it sure seems like a heck of Bang for your buck as well. A really nice 2/2 with ocean views and a nice community for only $575 including your direct T.V. It is really close to everything.

I'm king of a fish at this...

I have tried googling La Jolla de Rosarito and every listing only comes up with vacational rentals. For those who live there, are there currently apartments available?

ya there's tons of condo's for rent. check out baja123.com. I'm living at bobby's by the sea. It's pretty sick for 950 a month, but far from town. I'm sure you'll have no problem finding a place. We moved in the first day in our condo, so you could stay at a hotel for a couple days and check out some places.

The HK Bar in TJ kills any LA strip Club.

$20 bucks will go much further across the border!

What's the food delivery situation like?

Boliver, did you ever find someone reliable to cook/clean for you on Sundays?

Are there non high-rise condo/gated development type residences? Or is it either stand-alone house or high-rise buildings?

Overall, are you all finding the living experience to be efficient/fun? Any downsides?

Thanks for the thread...definitely eying this area as a possibility after Canada...the proximity to SoCal is especially appealing.

+1

I am in the exact same situation - timing on my move will depend on if/where/when I need to go to watch my badgers in a big bowl game - but thinking 1st week of January.

Feel free to holler/pm etc.

Edit: Also looking to take a 4-5 day trip this fall to get a feel for the area, check out same places, and hang with some of you dudes.

I can answer some things here for ya. As far as gated community non high rise the answer is yes. There is some housing and allot of villa's and they are all very nice. There are a couple gated custom house communities too.

I also think the proximity to Socal is a major plus! If I had to move way south in Mexico I would probably pass. This gives you the best of both worlds imo! Also if research Rosarito you will see it is a safe and fun city!

what up shane,

we were actually like assigned a maid for our place but would rather not use them, as they know the owner of the place. So we need to find another one, which I'm sure is easy if we overpay, but the average daily wage down here is like $4, so I don't see any reason why we should pay more than $30 or so for a 10-12 hour shift. The guys at las olas paid $75 for a maid once, which isn't even bad, but just such an obvious gringo price.

The cool thing about mexico is everybody knows somebody. If you ask your guard, waiter, guy pumping your gas, taxi driver, etc....they will have a friend who is a realtor, carpenter, painter, internet technician, or something you will find useful. So we need to just find somebody's sister or cousin and do it the mexican way...not go through our realtor who will hook us up with some english speaking lady that charges 5x as much.

Lots of high-rises here for sure. I wasn't as into that at first, but you also have to remember that these are vacation homes and nobody is here half the year. There's 2 other people that live in my 8 story building, and then on the weekends a few other rooms will be rented out. I've found that I like being a bit above the ocean, and we have cliffs below us that look pretty sick when the waves crash, so we're like 6 stories on top of a 20 foot cliff above the ocean.

There are 6-7 I'd say condo communities as well, with 2-3 story houses in a more spread out condo complex. These look rad as well and were my first choise, but there is def a little less privacy I would say, as you're just in a house surrounded by other houses, and when you go on one of your patios everyone outside can see.

All places have 24/7 security and parking.

You CAN get a normal home here, not all baller and beachfront but just in a normal neighborhood and it's cheap as balls, but for the extra couple hundred I think most of us prefer to step it up.

So far I'm liking it alot out here. It's a great place to be. Downsides could be there's not a ton of clubbing or anything during the week. Surf could be a bit warmer. Internet seems to go out daily at least once for a few minutes (but we also had a huge power outage in mexico, LA, and AZ....most locals tell us there are never power problems here)
I don't have a place to hang my hammock. sometimes its windy. the tacos don't come with cheese.

upsides are many as well. There's a guy on the beach with a go-cart with wings on it...so for $20 you can fly a go cart over the ocean. parties go off in TJ, occasional weekends here,

felt like I should have PMd most of this, but others may find it helpful as well. starting a session now and im outtt!
