Re: Official Puerto Vallarta thread

I forgot to mention a couple things that were mentioned upthread.

Re: Zona Romántica, yes it's the GLBT zone, but no it's not "too much" unless you have a problem with gay people, in which case, please avoid it. To be honest, for me, I actually see it as a plus compared to a normal entertainment district. It's packed w/tons of fun bars, cabarets, and clubs, some gay-themed, others not. Lots of musical acts and tributes to GLBT-friendly artists like Queen and Lady Gaga, drag shows as well. Seems like there is always something fun going on in the area.

There are quite a few guys here, but I wouldn't say this part is packed with gay men. Also disagree that there are 0 hot females here. If you've been around Mexico, then you will know that it doesn't compare to Colombia/Brazil in terms of hot females, but I would say that PV is slightly above average for Mexico in terms of female attractiveness. Decent mix of cute Mexicans and foreign tourists. I'm in a relationship, so won't be able to comment further, but saying there are 0 attractive females is ridiculous.

Funny anecdote: In Cabo San Lucas, the t-shirts say "**** Biden" and in PV they say "**** Trump". So take from that what you will regarding which city would be better for you.

Re: Official Puerto Vallarta thread

Nice post Fossil, hope you'll keep us updated. Funny & perhaps telling anecdote about Cabo vs PV t-shirt wars...presumably that has everything to with the political views of the gringos who visit those areas, and little to nothing to do with the views of the locals in either.

Hard to believe that PV has the best restaurants in Mexico, but whatever, sounds great. Not hard to believe that the food in the more local restaurants is better and half price as the restaurants catering to tourists just a few blocks away.

Pics of apt? Would be interesting to see what $1K/month gets you. Hope you're in a quiet location, not a ton of street noise, barking dogs, etc..

Hope you'll post a trip report about Sayulita before too long!

Re: Official Puerto Vallarta thread

Haha yah, I'm sure the t-shirts had little to do with the locals. Cabo San Lucas did seem a lot more deplorable heavy, although PV does have their share of Boomers who I'm sure are more right-leaning. But ZR being a GLBT-friendly area, the general sentiment is more progressive.

Yah, I'm quite skeptical about the food claim as well, but we've tried 3 of their recs so far, and all have been excellent. Our landlord told us he thought one of the restaurants we tried was just "meh" and gave us a list of 8 places that are even better (in his opinion). So we're excited to try all these places out.

Today we ate brunch at a place called Mi Café. $7.50 for each plate, very filling, and quite good:

Yes, we're for sure planning to visit Sayulita soon. One of the big advantages of PV is the seemingly endless # of cool beaches nearby as well as some Pueblos Mágicos up in the mountains only an hour or 2 away to visit. That's one of the big negatives of Mazatlán is that it's super isolated from the rest of México, there isn't really an interesting city within about a 6 hour drive.

Re: the apartment. We negotiated it down to $1k/month b/c we're mostly staying here during low tourist season. If we were to stay in the Winter months, I think it would be $1300/month. We're very pleased with the place though, great location for us, 8 minute walk to the beach, 5 minute walk to the touristy zone, but relatively quiet and in an area w/slightly more locals and great restaurants. The apartment is 2BR, and about 750 sq. ft. I believe.

Re: Official Puerto Vallarta thread

I’m currenty in Vallarta as well also staying in the Zona Romantica (with my GF). We first visited here in December and came back about 2 weeks ago. The quality of food & service is really excellent (as is the value for money).

Weather is perfect and sunsets are gorgeous. Would be hard pressed to find a better place to ride things out while things are going badly at home (Canada).

Fosslkid - up for grabbing a beer on the beach any day in the next week? Would love to learn more about CDMX from you.

Re: Official Puerto Vallarta thread

Which casino? I went to check out the one right at the end of the boardwalk (WinClub I think), and it looked like it only had 2 tables and people were smoking at the table, so doubt I'm gonna return. Is he talking about the Nuevo Vallarta Tour festival coming up or is at an actual cash game festival? Does he play PLO or PLO5 by chance?
