On the bright side the dollar is doing almost as well against the peso as it has in the last 3.5 years right now. AFAIK there is not much you can do about that when wiring different currencies. If you are moving a big number I would recommend going to Cabo or some other border state and setting up a bank account in USD
Cabo isn't a border state, but you can indeed get a USD account there (which is what I have). Wiring from USD Stars to Peso MX Bank to USD American Bank is a really silly idea. Don't do that, you'll lose like 6-7% in vig and fees.

hey guys, just a few questions I was hoping you guys might be able to help me out with...

1. What is the best month to look for a long term lease? my guess was april since it is start of the down season?

2. Can someone give me the area(1st-10th up to x street kind of thing?) they would consider walkable to 5th ave/action and beach?

3. I am looking for a nice condo type spot with common pool, newer furniture etc. I saw places like sabbia condos that fit the mold of what I want. can you guys recommend a few more spots similar to this? Any good or bad reviews of places would be appreciated

4. Is anyone moving out of playa around April. I will likely purchase some things you do not wish to take back with you. desk/computer supplies/pots/blender etc.

5. With the new poker legislation passed will there be live poker in or around playa?

6. oh and as far as playa car phase 1/2 is that far enough will I will need a vehicle or can people manage without one from there. do you get a discount on the golf course while renting there?

thanks in advance to anyone who can help out.

I just rented in playacar phase 2. You do get a discount on golf and I'll let you know what it is when I find out. You also get a gym membership and a membership to a beach club. The other people I've met from there recommend getting a bike but some have said they walk or take taxis. I don't actually close on it until tomorrow but I can post more details then if you'd like more info

thanks for responding. I would definitely like whatever info you can offer. The exact discount/rates at golf. what you think of the gym. what the beach club is. how far of a walk from your place to 5th ave. I saw a few nice places in playacar phase 2 but worried about it being too far away so any and all info you want to take the time to share would be awesome. if you want to share what you pay in rent/how many bdr etc that would be nice also. thanks.

March or April sounds good. It's less likely that you find a place in January or February but sometimes you do and by renting longterm and during low season they give you a fair price even if you move in during high season.

2. Can someone give me the area(1st-10th up to x street kind of thing?) they would consider walkable to 5th ave/action and beach?

Most of us live on calle 12th to calle 46th and on the beach up to avenida 30~. 30th is still only 7-8 min from the beach so good location. I would say that most of the nicer and newer buildings are located where we live.

3. I am looking for a nice condo type spot with common pool, newer furniture etc. I saw places like sabbia condos that fit the mold of what I want. can you guys recommend a few more spots similar to this? Any good or bad reviews of places would be appreciated

Sabbia is nice for sure, lived there myself for 6 months and really like the place. Some other nice places are Peregrina, Margaritas II, Casa del mar, San Pedro, The Elements, Via38, there are a lot more but can't really remember any more names atm. Most places are 2 or 3br and I'd say that normal prices are 12-20k pesos/2br and 18-25k pesos/3br. Normally on the lower end but some places don't really care about making a tiny profit during low season when they make such a massive profit during high season so it can be annoying to negotiate.

4. Is anyone moving out of playa around April. I will likely purchase some things you do not wish to take back with you. desk/computer supplies/pots/blender etc.

I would assume that you bring your own laptop. It's a good idea to bring a monitor as well but sometimes people here sell their when they leave.
The 5 places that I have lived in so far have all had well equipt kitchens so you won't need to add much stuff and if you do there's walmart and such.
Just post in this thread closer to when you're arriving and I'll add you to the skype chat and you can check if anyone is selling what you're looking for.

5. With the new poker legislation passed will there be live poker in or around playa?

From what I hear there's some live poker here but it's micro stakes, high rake, doesn't run very often and not a place where you can make any money really.
Very unlikely that anything of the above would change if the poker legislation thing passed.

6. oh and as far as playa car phase 1/2 is that far enough will I will need a vehicle or can people manage without one from there. do you get a discount on the golf course while renting there?

I think less than 5% of us living in playa live in playacar. Some have lived there but pretty much everyone prefer to live where we live now (see above).
It's hard to not get very isolated living in playacar and there's really no reason to live there if you want to be a part of the community and enjoy restaurants, bars, nightclubs and participate in sports. Even a simple thing such as grocery shopping is a bit of a project if you live in playacar.

thanks in advance to anyone who can help out.
See above.

Hey all, I'm looking for a one bedroom from the beginning of January until mid February. Thus far I've contacted a couple real estate agents (Luis and Elizabeth) but neither have anything great available due to it being high season. If anyone can put me in contact with the right person, that would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Don't know if anyone is the 'right' person to find during high season. Everything is just booked. If you do find something you are going to pay a lot of money.

Your best bet is to just talk to a friend you have living here and see if you can stay with them for a bit.

We really don't know yet. The last I have seen and heard the bill has been held over until 2015 when the Mexican Senate comes back into session. I have not been able to find the date that they are supposed to come back yet (if anyone knows, please post a link).

Also, I think we have 2 major obstacles to dodge-one is the tax (if they decided to tax poker rooms and it is too high, certain rooms might exit the market or drastically increase their rake for players in Mexico) and then obviously segregation.

Finally, assuming there will be an adverse effect on poker, we don't know when it will go into effect and we don't know if the poker rooms will take action immediately or wait until the law's implementation date by the Mexi-gov't.

Hopefully, sometime in January we will know more.

So I went to Santander( the bank I had a cpl years ago) and they said I need the typical stuff(Electric bill,2 references, passport)but they also said I needed a tax form from the US? When did they change this and is there any other banks that dont need that? Pretty frustrated right now.

Try Sun and Sea Rentals ... we used Elizabeth and she came up empty. BPM is on starting this wknd until the 18th so its pretty hard to find a place. We have gone down to PDC for 5 months at a time twice before and finding a place online is WAY harder then if you are there just walking around.

Are you looking to buy? If so, we have worked with Rob in the past. American who moved down about 15 years ago.
