how long ago was it? I found a forum discussing it in early 2010, then a post saying they closed for remodeling but never reopened. I'll def look for it next time in the area, but stuff closes and opens all the time in resort towns.

One of my initial fav Mexican spots on 5th closed out of nowhere few weeks ago, it always seemed to me like they did decent business too

If we're throwing out our favorite restaurants, I'd have to say El Fogon, which is on 30th between 6th-8th. Typical mex restaurant specializing in al pastor and arrachera, but it's just soooooo good.

The playboy casino in Cancun is softer than a soup sandwhich.

They just started poker the last 3 weeks I was there last year (30/60peso NL) Unlimited buy in (lol). Lifetime membership was only 20$.

They barely even knew the rules. The eyecandy is awesome (all playboy bunnies). This was about 7 months ago. Im not sure if they still play poker or if they have changed the rules so you cant buy in for like 100k.

It only really ran on the weekend nights and 2-3 tables, but over 2 weekends I scooped enough to pay for the entire month condo on beach, flight, everything and THEN some. It was that juicy. A combo of just some tourists and some rich fish.

Check it out if you have a chance. Its @ 4.5KM in the hotel zone in Cancun. I also know someone that owns a few condos in the complex between the casino and the Barcelo all inclusive (beside where u catch one of the ferrys to Isla Mujeres). They are gated security, right on the beach. 2bed 1bath. Nothing fancy, but far from ugly, really nice balcony view. They charge 1200 during low and 1750 during high season. Fully furnished with highspeed internet (which was reliable). Plus electricity (was 50$ when I was there, but I didnt blast the AC once)

Anyone have a good realtor we can deal with? It seems hard to find a good long term rental site for playa.

Hey guys.

A friend of mine and me are searching for information about Cancun and since it's only 40-50 minutes away I think I can ask here..

Why have you chosen Playa Del Carmen vs. Cancun? (I'm from Denmark and haven't been in any of the 2 places yet).

We're considering to get a flat for 4-5 people in Cancun for the next 4-5 months from february 2012. Good/bad? And is it easy to set a bank acc, withdraw money, internet etc.

And also what sites do you use for renting and any good advice would be appreciated.

Ty in advance

Hopefully This hurricane doesnt linger too long sitting in a hotel room with no power for 24 hours plus sounds pretty boring

That's an awesome area down on 38th. I stayed at Condo Hora Feliz on 40th and across the street from it is an UNREAL seafood place. Seems like only locals know about it because it was always jammed and not on 5th. What's the price range of your apartment in the area if you don't mind me asking. Thanks.

Yeah its above a pizza restaurant that is supposed to be good real brick oven. Has a gym a large pool 2 jacuzzis and saunas in the common area beach is maybe 150 yards or so I got it for 2k. 2 bedroom washer dryer dishwasher 3 flatscreen tvs nice balcony etc etc. I was shown other places that were not as nice for more. The only othr place I was considering was a penthouse that had a rooftop pool and area with your own private jacuzzi with a view of the ocean but the elevator wasnt working so that kind of pushed the other one on top.

I know this has probably been covered already, but which bank specifically have you guys had the most success with in playa? Has everyone been able to get a USD account? Also, I know this has been covered, but what exact documents does stars want? I couldn't find if you need a lease with your name on it or just a utility bill, possibly without your name on it.....

I use scotiabank but from everyone else I have heard bancomer is the best. The only downside to it I have heard is a 5peso charge for using the atm (scotia charges me 60/month for some completely lol worthy life insurance policy so w/e)

I don't think USD account is possible, but could be wrong (I think those are exclusive to people in border states)

Stars is different for everybody in my experience, my adive would be get as much documents as possible together and go from there with what they ask for in email contact.....I was able to do it without any bills in my name, something I think you will find near impossible here minus a cable/internet bill which you prob couldnt get in your name for awhile anyway

-my roommate and I had the exact same paperwork, but he was back up 4 days before me while I had to get some other lease related document to stars

The huge benefit to Bancomer is an "elite" program or something that you automatically get as a foreigner with like a 2K+ deposit. This is english speaking help. At scotia, it is a huge hassle for me to get stuff done only knowing limited spanish

I brought my computer stuff with me on airplane, I am pretty sure electronics are more expensive anywhere in world outside of US and prob Japan. Plus there is not much selection for monitors ect here, my Realtor told me about a website that would ship here in 3-4 days at a reasonable rate but I never looked into it.

I love golf but don't have clubs here yet. prob gonna have my family mule them out to me during holidays. I know there is a course in playacar and prob couple more around
