Im moving to playa del carmen in january with 3-4 other people. We're looking to rent a nice house/condo for 6 months.

I was wondering if it was better to just book a couple of nights at a motel the first few nights and then just start looking for houses there? Seems to me like you can get a much better deal than through websites, because most websites are pretty expensive for what you get.

If anyone could share some info, I would highly appreciate that.

I would STRONGLY recommend not booking a place until you get down here. You want to get a feel for the place and decide what part of town you want to live in, if it's worth the extra dough to be on the beach, if you want to be close to the bars or not, etc. So yeah, just grab a hotel for a few nights while you check some places out.

Recommendation for a place to stay for a few nights while I search for a medium length lease?

just bought my ticket for next week for a scouting trip. If anyone has any recommendations in so far as realtors or areas to look at for long term housing would be grateful.

I stayed at Hotel Coco Rio while I was searching. It was fine. $50/night but may be more now with busier travel season.

As far as where to live, just have whatever rental agent you use show you many different options. Like bumpking said earlier, it just depends on if you value living on beach, living near nightlife etc

I'd still like to try and get most of us that are down here together just so we can meet up and hopefully get a community started.

I'm wide open this week and weekend. Maybe Friday night for beers since there's not much grinding going on and the town will be a bit busier? Plus, all this rain is supposed to end tomorrow I think!

Oh, I just meant that Friday nights are a crappy time to grind. I would normally say let's meet on Sunday to watch some NFL, but that's prime grind time.

I like 2 Mexican places on 10th. One is across from Coco Bongo the other next to scotia bank.

I am in if nobody objects. Not really for tomorrow, but if anyone is looking for a place to watch sports Legends Sports Bar on 16th between 10th ave and 15th ave is easily the best i have come across. They have any game you want, good food, and better prices than anywhere on 5th

Let's pick one of these for 7.30 that has a decent bar or at least some atmosphere and then we can chill while we wait for the stragglers. I doubt I'll stay out too late, but you never know.

I was trying to research the pizza place but it appears it might be closed. At any rate, not a good idea to meet there when half don't have phones if it's closed.

It has white plastic tables and chairs out front and everyone eats outside unless it rains. (sorry, I suck at looking at names of things, and can't figure it out with google.

It is next to scotiabank, on the 10th avenue side. There is a sign for "legends bar and grill" in front of the place even though legends is around the corner.

It is the place we had dinner at Justin and Doug.

It's between 5th and 10th across from a gym called "Evolve". My girlfriend and I sat and watched people do a spin class while we were eating pizza and drinking beer lol. If I wasn't so dumb with 2 plus 2 I would upload a pic of the delicious pizza. I'm very jealous of you who are currently living in Playa. But I will be heading there no later than January!!!!
