Rate is usually pretty close to what this website shows, the way I understand it, Mexican banks use this. Rate is on the right side, or you can see the rates for a range of days from the drop boxes if you go to TIPO DE CAMBIO Y TASAS on the left. Minus about 300 pesos in fees.

http://dof.gob.mx/

No USD or EUR accounts without an FM3 and $15k USD min balance.

From my experience you would be better off taking money out of atms instead of wiring to your mexican bank once you get it set up (if that's what you were planning to do). the atms AT the banks, not random ones on 5th ave or elsewhere. I have gotten much better exchange rates from the atms at scotia bank then I did when I wired from my us bank to my mex bank, and I am not even charged any fees for using the scotia atms (with a boa debit card). I think you only need 1k pesos in a bancomer account to avoid fees so you could easily withdraw that from an atm and dep it, then not even have to use the account until you want to withdraw winnings.

If I'm not mistaken, he was referring to the Stars wires, not wires from US banks. But maybe not.

That's some amazing footage you got there!

Cant wait to join you cool folks in Playa. Seems so surreal yet realistic. There are so many incentives that it would be stupid not to move to Mexico in pursuit of something you love and are good at...

Best wishes from your friend here in California!

Close to 40, maybe more that are not in the Skype group.

Most use very little to no Spanish, but try when chatting up a cute Spanish girl who doesn't speak English, haha. Some are actively trying to learn for themselves.

The playa.info site has discussion on how to live super cheap. I remember reading someone who got bye on like 400/mo. just depends on quality of living I guess
Quite new to this forum but been playing poker religiously for the past 3 years. Looking to relocate to Playa Del Carmen at the beginning of 2013. I have read this thread from the inside out but still have a few questions.

Noseeds: You seem like a very knowledgeable fellow and have been rooted in PDC for a while. Do you mind sharing the exact PDC link that discusses economical living. Thanks again!

BTW for anyone looking to move down here, or anyone who is a little overwhelmed/nervous, I can vouch for a relocation service geared towards poker players specifically. They get you from the airport, find you a place, help you setup your bank account and give you all the documents to get back on Stars or any other pokersite. It's a really good deal. (Like $300 USD). Makes your life so much easier and takes away the stress of the unknown.

Anyone is welcome to PM me about it, and I'll give you the contact info for them.
Are your referring to the service known as Poker Refugees? If you're talking about a whole entirely different service please inform me via discreet PM. I am very interested!

If you want it to sound hard so you feel better about yourself, so be it. But life isn't complicated down here.

If you have no confidence in yourself or are completely lazy and want to use a relocating service for $300, then do it. Is it necessary? No. Does the service make things easier? Probably. How much easier? I'm not sure, since life down here is pretty damned simple.
I have to disagree. These services are set up for a reason. Yes we live in the information age where answers are condensed just a 'right click' away and where google has perfected the art of spelling for the worst of spellers on the planet. But, it doesn't make one lazy to use services that accommodate to a certain demographic that is less knowledgeable about the area then others. I'm sure much time is wasted for looking for a good occupancy in PDC and one might not attain the best deal out there getting duped in the process. Errors cost time and time equals money. If you have the extra bankroll it would be the smart thing to do to increase that +EV were all living for to be sustainable/ profitable poker players!

On another note, does anybody have an extra room for the beginning of 2013. Looking to relocate in February. Currently a resident of California. If one can accommodate we can speak further via discreet PM. In addition, I will submit my FB and twitter account so you can truly see what I am all about.

I'm also interested in moving to PDC at the beginning of 2013. I haven't been playing poker since DOJ shut it down but like to get back into it; I also trade stocks/forex for a living. I would like to live in a house with other poker degens. I'm willing to pay ~$1,500/month depending on how baller the place is.

Perhaps we can cross paths and crunch numbers if you're interested. I don't like to consider myself a poker degenerative because the word or meaning for the most part eats at me. But I would be interested in sharing a 2-3 bedroom at the beginning of next year. What do you normally play River Flush? MTT's or SNG's?

Okay. I have read this thread to front and back and marvel at all the suggestions and bits of information I was able to acquire. But let's start with the fundamentals:

One must first get a passport. Then the next step forward would be getting a tourist visa. How does one go about getting a tourist visa and whats the level of difficulty acquiring one. A link to a specific site would be nice.

From a whole different stance, based on people's experience what is the easiest or most cost effective way to cash out via Pokerstar's? I hear using MB is somewhat of a pain and fee's can be costly. Did anyone find a good exchange between the peso via USD dollar route. Your comments and constructive criticism is welcomed!

You'll get a tourist visa when you land in Mexico (for free). They're good for 180 days, but if you want to stay longer, you can get it extended or just take a vacation out of the country (Belize is only a few hours away).

For cashing out, there are no great methods, but the relatively "better" option is probably to set up a peso account and then have Stars wire money to that account. Exchange rate fees could be anywhere from 1.0-4.0% depending on size of the cashout. Then you're sitting on a bunch of pesos, so you can wire those back to your US bank account and pay another 1-4%. I use a company called "Monex", which is basically a currency exchange bank. They charge about 0.6% to change $ (assuming it's electronic - physical bills are at a worse rate).

BK your the best!

Seriously, you state the fact without dejecting me with opinion. The process sounds convenient enough. Get my passport and upon arrival get my tourist visa. At the moment I am working with a privately contracted real estate agent that should help me with many other things and I'll bring them up to date with these cash out methods.

Hope to kick it one day on the beach with a cerveza and fish taco on hand!

playa.info has a search feature similar to this forum

I tried really quick not sure if this was the thread I was refering to in that post or not

http://www.playa.info/playa-del-carm...-you-live.html

I know a guy that pays like $300/month for a 2br in a part of town that has the electric subsidy so his bill is something ******ed like 350peso for 2 months with running the AC all the time. If he cooked his own food from the grocery store, didnt eat out too much or drink etc Im sure he could get by on 600? month. all just personal living preferences obv
