no party for me, fishing took it out of me, probably going to pass out very soon.
quick TR
arrive at Mexican grocery near the pier at 830, they dont start selling until 9. beat
pick up 54 beers at Oxxo near the pier, prob got hosed on a few pesos there
get a talking about what to expect, blah blah blah
head out on boat, get nothing for like 1.5 hours. Feeling like this might be worst idea of all time
Go on a heater around noon, Ponder's stick gets 1st bite a ~25lb Wahoo, we get 2 Barracuda right after that (apparently these can be semi-poisonous or something? whatever, we left the 3 we ended up catching with the captain and his 2 merry mates at the end)
Right before we stop for lunch, we nab a Mahi-mahi (maybe 10ish lbs) which apparently is rare in these waters but from previous experience I know it to be super delicious, I am pretty drunk and excited at this point
We stop for lunch and a swim near Talum at this point, around 1, and the beer is almost out. The ride back we manage to grab one last small barracuda which I reeled in, then gave up fishing and speed back. won't name names but various noobs were passed out, the beer was out, it was time to head back.
We made it to the dock at 430ish, where they made us a plate of delicious mahi-mahi sashimi for appetizer, followed by both fish done 3 ways, fried, blackened and grilled w/ butter and garlic accompanied by rice and veggies. throw in a few more beers, a mojito here and there and I must say it was a top 10 meal of my life, maybe little lower but it hit the spot
there was also drama when the crew was filleting our fish for us but my fingers hurt from typing this and I am about to pass out.
Many pictures and video were taken, whenever I get them emailed to me and figure out how to blur peoples heads out I will post them here.
haha I didn't feel right about posting faces all over the internet without asking and too lazy to ask. mystery ftw!
it was advertised through the link I posted a week ago at playa.info (I don't make money off of this, I assume it's cool)
we didn't drop the lines to the bottom, just went sort of fast while the lures stayed pretty close to the surface. I assume this targeted the barracuda's and wahoo, but I really don't know much about fishing. I think the pep talk we got at the beginning went over this stuff but I was 95% still asleep then.
The only other time I have been deep sea fishing was in South Padre Island, we let the lines go deep and caught red snapper. In retrospect, I wish we would have asked the captain to let us do this (I assume they are deeper swimmers?) because some raw red snapper would have been yummy
