I enjoy browsing this thread on occasion, as the Roo is one of my favorite spots. It wouldn't be a great place to live unless you're looking for extreme exclusion (just not much there), but if you're looking for a day trip (or half day trip), Akumal, about 30 minutes south of Playa, has a great snorkeling beach and a loncheria with the best Mexican food I've ever had.

38th and 5th. It is called La Portena. Chicken, Steak, Hamburgers, all out of this world and at such a cheap price you can't beat it.
Ate there last night, highly recommend it!! First legit good burger I've had down here.

For those of you that have relocated to Playa del Carmen, are you just residing off the FMM tourist visa? Or are you going through the process of trying to obtain an FM3 resident visa? For those on the FMM, what are your plans after 6 months? Are you able to re-enter shortly after the 6 month period ends?

Re-entry is not a problem at all. Just fly back to the states for a few days and come back. I would be shocked if they said anything at all to you.

Hey Guys,

I have been here a little over a month and have not yet received an electric or water bill. IIRC, they come every two months? I was curious the frequency other people are getting these bills?

I am flying home for the holidays in a week and would like to have an idea when these things arrive, so I don't come back to Mexico only to find water and power has been shut off. I asked my landlord about this and she said I could just go to the utility and pay up before I leave. Honestly, I really want to avoid this since I expect going to the public water authority is likely very time consuming and a major hassle. Those things can be really slow in the states, so I can only imagine how it is in Mexico.

Just regular FMM. I have been down here 5 months now, been back to the states twice, no hassles either time. Re-entry is literally a joke I have yet to be asked a question from the Mexicans other than "where are you staying" They just want tourism dollars. I wouldn't recommend it, but honestly I doubt much would happen if you overstayed the 6 months. You risk not being allowed back so not worth it (I believe you can also run to Belize or something if you don't have anything to do in the states)

I received my last bill around the 21st of November and it was due the 28th. Every 2 months, for me they just slide it under my door, I think other people have their landlords drop them off?

It is really quick to pay the bill at the place. I've always done it with a copy of bill in hand though, without one it would probably take a long time like anything else.

If you get the bill though CFE is on 40h ave and 22nd calle and they have 4 or 5 atm machines, you scan the bill and then just deposit the required pesos in the machine. Takes 3 minutes, maybe 10 if there is a line (like you go the day its due)

Thanks for the information guys!

I paid my cable bill at the oxxo and it was super easy. They should do stuff like that in the states, imo.

When did you receive your first bill? I moved in Nov 17th and I am flying out Dec 20th. Perhaps my first bill won't arrive until Jan?
