Pre-earthquake, I'd say the La Condesa neighborhood (and some around it) are very nice/liveable/grindable places. You do probably need some Spanish, or at least be comfortable making your way around in a place where there's not a whole lot of English. Was very walkable, Uber was great to get around, etc.
Don't know what shape everything is in this far out post-disaster.
