Anyone know of any lower-stakes Manhattan homegames/rooms around? I just moved here from Austin and have got that live poker itch.

I'm gonna be staying in NY for 5 nights over halloween weekend. Im gonna be with two mates, we are all in our mid twenties and british. Our trip will consist of drinking in bars and checking out the touristy stuff as it's our first time.
What area should we look to stay?
How are the hostels in the Manhattan area? we have a very tight accomadation budget.

Headed to NYC tomorrow & looking to do an Anthony Bourdain-style food tour of the city each night.

Especially like Asian food.

Take the 7 train into Flushing - Main St. (Last stop). Yelp Xian Famous Foods and Lamb Noodle Soup (Anthony Bourdain has been to both in his outer boroughs episode). They're both pretty good.

If you don't feel like going into Queens, go down to Chinatown. There's a Xian Famous Foods there as well (get the lamb burger and some sort of broad noodles at either chain). After the Xian Famous Foods, go next door to Chinatown Ice Cream Factory for some black sesame and almond cookie ice cream.

Going to be in New York for the first time December 15-19th, staying at the Intercontinental Times Square. Outside of a few Broadway shows our schedule is pretty open. If anyone has any recommendations as far as awesome food or really anything in that area, please post it.

Going to be in NYC from 17th-25th July, anything going on in that week that I should know about? Sports games?

There will be 4 of us, we've been quoted prices for hotels but was thinking maybe we could rent an 4-bed apartment (or 2 2beds) and get something better/better location for our $?

Thanks in advance for any help, and apologies for the laziness in asking here first rather than googling!

Sports wise, only baseball of the 4 major sports will be on.

Looking at the schedule the Yankees are at home to Toronto first couple of days you are there and then the Mets host LA Dodgers and Washington Nationals. They play virtually every day fyi.

Hey guys, I'm curious about the premium rent prices on Manhattan... I have been googling around and found that a 2bedroom in the Silvertowers is around 5k/month. Is that the standard price for luxury apartments?

Thanks in advance!

Sup guys,

I know there's a proper NYC thread with like 5000 posts somewhere, but I'm in Mexico with the worst imaginable internet and I can't find it, 2+2 barely works, and googling anything is nearly impossible hence bumping this thread.

So I'm going to NYC for about 72 hours, a long weekend, I've been 3 times before and I've done all the touristy stuff but I feel like I've always missed most of the heart and soul of the city.

I'm staying in Manhattan near MSG but I love walking around New York so distance isn't really a factor.

First off I'd like to hear any suggestions for any kinds of cheap street restaurants. Where's the most epic pizza slice? Bagel? Etc. I feel like I've always kinda missed out on "real" New York eateries, all the pizzas I've ever have there have been lousy, and I'd love to taste that iconic NY pizza slice. And I know you can get bagels in every deli, but you know I'm looking for some iconic special place that's been there for 80 years or a new place with a twist everyone loves type of thing.

Secondly, something I've always longed to do is to wander around some lively neighbourhood at night and go to random places. In my country everything closes at 9PM or something and I'm a night person. If you've ever watched Louie, the type of place where the opening credits are filmed is what I mean. Where should I go so that I can walk on lively streets eating pizza, going to a random comedy club and similar places (where I can go alone, so no clubs etc thankyou) that are open in the middle of the night in NY?

Best places for random gigs? When NYC music was booming 10 years ago where did The Strokes, Interpol, Yeah Yeah Yeahs etc play before anyone knew them?

What are the key places in Brooklyn to explore (day and night) as I've spent an embarrassing amount of my time in Manhattan? Interested in hipsteresque cafes/small bars/cool cheap restaurants/shops etc mainly.

As a bonus, if anyone wants to randomly get drunk or w/e I'm game, I'm coming on the 19th and leaving 23rd, this is basically just a prolonged stopover and I don't think I know anyone who lives there currently.

How much are the cheapeast short notice Rangers/Nets/Knicks/whatever tickets and what'd be the best value for money?

How was your trip? I'm going for a week the second week of April and have similar questions.

Also, I want to catch a Knicks game in MSG. The only option is Knicks-Pistons and I don't think those are top-tier teams. Will it still be worth it?

Hey,

As Chuck Bass I'm also unable to find a bigger NY thread, so I'm just gonna ask it here.

I'll be staying in NY for a week with my 2 kids and GF and would love to play some pickup ball. Do you guys know of any courts (where people actually play) near a playground and/or a nice atmosphere (maybe some music?)

I've read about a couple in Central Park and will most likely give them a try, especially since it's pokemon heaven for my 6yo, but maybe there are some other cool ones?

Thanks!

Is there a New York thread elsewhere on the forum? I searched and this is all I found..

I`m going to NYC with a friend for 5 days in november. So far all we have is flights. Would love recommendations on anything really. We are both 35, interested in sports, gambling (might go to AC but doubt it).

Never been to NYC before.

Good value hotel? Which area should we stay in?
Good restaurants/spots to visit?
What to avoid?

I hate having a set schedule on what to do when I`m on vacation, on the other hand I don`t wanna stand there with a map in my hand and absolutely no plans either

Our dates are 13th to 18th of november. Somehow managed to bink the only (?) weekend in NYC without NFL football during the regular season. Been to NFL Wembley several times, so not sure I`ll bother take a train to Philly on sunday.

Never watched NHL live, binked a weekend without NYR playing at home either. Will for sure head to NYI or NJD if I get hold of tickets.

Apart from that, not a single plan. So would love some ideas on what to do in the city

Priceline suggestion earlier in the thread is very good. Once in a while I check these sites and I'm pretty surprised how cheap hotels get in expensive neighborhoods. "Express deals"/etc. Usually last minute bookings...

I mean, there's got to be a reason why you decided to fly across an ocean, right? So just do what you are interested in and what interests you about NYC. Once you know your interests, it is easy to find "best X in NYC".

Atlantic City might be interesting for 1 night. There's plenty Euros that come to AC to gamble.

That is right around the time the wife and I went to NYC for the first, and unfortunately so far only, time.

We stayed at a Hilton Garden Inn, now a Hampton Inn, down from The New York Times and had dinner twice at the Wolfgang's in their bottom floor. BEST DAMN STEAK I EVER HAD! We are planning to go back to NYC for ten days next year and a Wolfgang's is on the menu.

If you want to do a Broadway show, do NOT get tickets from Broadway.com. They are ticket resellers. You can get them cheaper from each theater's website.

If I were you, I would skip Hamilton. We saw a touring version in our hometown and neither my wife or I liked it. I feel sorry for the Broadway suckers paying thousands for tickets.

Last edited by Doc T River; 08-24-2019 at 03:38 PM. Reason: I would find losing the money playing 5/10 at Bellagio more entertaining than watching Hamilton again.
