But the members on this Board seemed to express a true interest in visiting this type of Club (there are many more of these types of underground clubs in Medallo). It can be a lot of fun if you have the street smarts & know how to talk the talk!!
I have brought many friends to this Club & they have had a fantastic time! Take a look at the Trip Report by Kansas Cowboy on the first page in this ever-expanding thread. He & his crew had an amazing evening!!
Medellin can be a dangerous place but the owner of this Club is a wonderful woman (Her name is Kate La Gata) who has expressed an interest in entertaining foreigners. I always feel more than welcome in her Casa.
Just remember that the Narcos like to share their chicas. If a fellow guest expresses an interest in your chica de noche I would suggest that you offer to share…In return they will share their chicas with you!!

I don´t just provide translator services. I have a five man crew of guides and we watch the back of our clients (I know the owners & security at the Club as well).
But at the same time I would never bring a loud-mouth client to this Club (Wink-Wink). It would only be a headache for everyone involved!!

The point I was trying to make regarding Bbrocs is that, whether you speak Spanish or not, if you don´t know ´PEOPLE´down here in Medallo you put yourself at some risk..."

Then Bbrocs says:

"...I knew Noah well. We made money together and before his death I cut him loose for his bi-polar behavior was way to much for me to handle. I witness him in santo Domingo run around helping the poor. He had a great side but his bad side made him impossible to deal with. He told me he made my business he was jealous of everyone. He threatened to harm my close friends. I miss him but he got what he deserved."

well, nicestory, Medellin doesn't have the good beaches you're looking for, but it's got the bad bitches you desire. I personally haven't been to BA, and I've heard good things, but pretty much everyone who has lived in both prefers Medellin. that's just hearsay, though.

it's worth learning spanish, which should be obvious.

BA will generally be much better suited to someone coming to latin america for their first time who does not speak spanish. Both countries technically have beaches accessible within a day, but both have many drawbacks afaik. BA should be (much?) cheaper given current exchange rates

Last edited by boliver; 12-24-2014 at 10:14 AM. Reason: the last ~month COP fx rate has made colombia cheap as well, who knows if it will last

Buenos Aires >>> Medellin by a long shot. its way more international. a lot more things to do, more culture, etc. Medellin is nice for a week of party. And thats it.

Agreed, BA >>> Medellin and it's really not even close. BA is much more western, Medellin feels a lot more third world. Better restaurants and bars in BA. Generally I found I had a lot more in common with Argentines than Colombians. BA has a couple great neighborhoods with lots of trees, quieter streets, parks, but still close to the action. Even the nicest neighbourhoods in Medellin still feel dirty and unsafe. The only drawback to BA is that it may be difficult to find a place with reliable internet.

BA by a huge margin for culture/parties/girls are generally classier and more "European looking" if you are into that. Also great wine/steak.

That said, internet in BA is atrocious, and rolling blackouts are common late December/Jan/February.

Rent in BA is significantly more expensive, everything else is a bit cheaper.

Basically, completely in love with BA for everthing else, but it's pretty horrible for work in my experience. (I've lived in several buildings there. Some better than others, but had some issues in all of them.)

Also like Medellin alot. For 50mb/s stable internet, women are amazing and really friendly, can get a baller place for cheap, much closer to the US.

Both completely crush mexico/costa rica.

$650 to rent a bedroom in Medellin, even strata 5+, is a horrible price.

Not when the guys renting are already paying the gringo price.

Re: **** Official Medellin Colombia Thread***

http://www.masificados.com/propiedad...r/apartamentos

and

http://www.compartoapto.com

only 2 sites i know of that have fairly normal pricing. 1st is newspaper classifieds. I found my first aparment here through that, and was 1.3m for 2 bedroom penthouse (not super nice) by suramericana. Don't even try if you aren't fluent imo.
2nd is just locals looking for roommates and deals can be found. I highly recommend.

facebook has many groups but mostly shared ex-pat housing or people just cross posting from airbnb.

everyone talks about this gringo price, etc etc.... Colombian law requires one or two people who own property in medellin to put it up for collateral for any apartment you rent, at least legally. Also places are rented 1 year minimum. Security deposits are technically illegal in Colombia, but all gringo-catering realtors use this + gringo tax to offset whatever risk they see in going around the standard system.

Sure there are ways around this and sometimes you can deal directly with owners, but renting short term furnished housing with no fiador is a giant hurdle to overcome before you start getting local pricing.

I'm sure Barry could chime in, lol... but fact is its extremely difficult for extranjeros to get local pricing anywhere in Colombia. It was way more difficult when I moved to Pereira for a month, a smaller/cheaper city where every single 'good' price I needed a fiador.

Renting an unfurnished place for a year and paying up-front could also be an option. Not recommended for first timers...just pay the gringo tax as most do.

Jose has a very decent deal listed for anyone that is looking on 2p2 to rent an apartment in Medellin. He'd be justified in charging more imo just for the opportunity for an easy move, payable in stars, internet and grind-ready, and spanish roommate who knows the lay of the land (or at least poblado )
