I was thinking about moving to Columbia. I am older (50~) with a 1300 pension so I can get a retirement visa. Was thinking about one of the smaller cities like Manizales and was wondering what the cost of living would be there.

overall very interesting night out.

Oh one thing I wanted to mention: don't let your guard down just because you're in Poblado. A friend of mine was recently robbed walking from Lleras to Rio Sur (a fairly rich stretch of street is known as Milla de Oro) around 1-2am on a Thursday night. He was with his buddy too. They noticed two guys crossing the street and felt a little suspicious about it. The guys ended up catching up to them, first appearing all friendly, then telling them to hand over all of their ****. One of them claimed to have a weapon. They just handed over everything (cell phones, wallet, etc) and that was that. If you're between a taxi ride or walking late at night I'd say lean towards that taxi ride.

HAAAAAAA, the dude that literally RUNS after girls and jumps in front of them to say hi to every fine piece of ass he sees the first night I meet him....sober. lol, keep fightin the good fight man, whatever anxiety you have its all internal - I think I relate alot as I feel like a really shy kid but most people think im super out-going. That's just why I try and get white girl wasted every time we go out to loosen up!

Honestly that girl seems horrible if she's not putting up an equal effort in establishing a relationship...but i think ur a bit more find em, **** em, and flee is a bit more of the lord's style, gettin them trophy 9s and 10s

I'm not a beast in any means with girls, I'm just really nice and whatnot with ones I like, basically never pressure a girl into anything, and play a nice guy roll which is very different I think than the average macho local guy or sex crazed tourist that's here for a week and wants to hit and quit...and also being willing to put my penis in 94% of the females under 30 years old living in Medellin helps a bit. Whatever, zero standards and pretty eyes gets me by just fine.

yea, prob the absolute hands down most common place to get robbed is in Poblado. I still do like an idiot, but seriously don't walk around at night through anywhere dark or unpopulated...it doesn't matter if its a nice part of town, that actually works huuugely against you since all the thiefs go there to rob tourists since they all have more money on em than the average local in the hood. Combine that with dark spots all over poblado due to how foresty it is and how many little parks, creeks, nature walk type of spots and its just prime time for thiefs. I know 20+ people that have been robbed in Poblado, and a couple on la 70, and literally can't think of anyone else that has been robbed in normal parts of town...and its because that's where people go that have money - Poblado. Please note I have never heard of a violent incident ever in medellin involving a mugging, although alot of guns and knives - give up ur **** and you have nothing to worry about.

And no das papaya, which we all do in one way or another. I dress like a grimey skate rat most of the time, but just having a closed new era hat instead of a snapback can be considered dando papaya. Buying a water bottle instead of a bag of water can be considered the same when I'm with local friends, but I've stopped giving a crap as people just don't seem to mess with me when I'm rockin my skate rat style - had a bum give me money the other day.

It's been covered, but to dar papaya can range from pulling out your cell phone to text somebody, speaking english, dressing like a gringo, wearing jewelry, flashing money in any way that shows you might have more than $10 in your pocket, not haggling on prices, leaving a bag unattended, etc etc etc. Basically I understand it to not be a low-hanging fruit, ripe for the pickin

Si das papaya....que penaaaaaaa

Also I'll be up there next weekend, down for a 2p2 dinner. Keep us posted whoever wants to organize that, I call not it. Could also probably get in touch with pokerstars and have them pay for the whole thing for supernovas and above, they've done it before for us in mexico (like 11 course dinner at fancy restaurant for 20 of us) and many times in canada as well.

What I've been up to lately besides the pokers:

6 natural hot spring fed pools, with alot of waterfalls and other pretty stuff all around

Re-learning how to skateboard

Chupitos!!

Thanks for your "in" @Wooly and @lordjosejose @boliver

@lordjosejose
Would be cool if you could shoot the guys a message when we have time/place rdy.

Let's do a 2+2 dinner.

Time:
I suggest next tuesday, wednesday or thursday. 8:30PM.

Restaurant suggestions:
Al Rojo

No clue, how many people will come. So please don't suggest a restaurant where we have to reserve every single seat.

wow super sick yea man. i advise if anyone is going out at night. to be with a friend that is not drunk and has good situational awareness. the scumbag thieves here target people that seem drunk. or that looks incapable of defending himself. thank good im 9 ft tall so im not a good target for thieves. but yea man very unfortunate.

2. guatape is a peaceful mountaneous area its beautiful. its about a 3 hour drive. around medellin all over. is rural farm land with lakes, they have places called fincas. its basically a ranch. you can rent a finca for the weekend. most of them have pools and you can enjoy the forest, pools lakes and whatnot. its pretty cheap if you have all the friends to chip in. they are some fincas that are like 45 min drive from the city. also there is a resort area ( http://www.skicolombia.com/ski-colombia.php ) where you can jetski . wakeboard , bike . rock climb. enjoy the scenary. if we can get enough people i would be down to go and hang out for the weekeed.
Thanks a lot for the great info. I'm still toying back in forth between Medellin and going back to Chiang Mai.

Well I just booked my ticket for Medellin! Arriving on November 2nd. Loose plans are to stay around 3 months (with weekend to week long trips exploring the country) then head to Ecuador/Peru for another three months. But we will see, my travel "plans" are never very stable.

Anyways, I will definitely be looking for a shared apartment in Medellin. Would love to live with some like minded people. I probably won't be grinding online much as that is not my focus anymore, but do like playing live from time to time. Especially in home games. As I stated earlier in this thread, I am moving down to grow a business project I am working on and want my dollar to go a bit further than it does here, plus I generally can't wait to get out of the US every year!

A bit about me:

I'm 30 years old

From Northern California and have lived all over the west coast and Idaho.

I travel every year for around 3-6 months

I have owned a few businesses in my twenties and got burnt out and became a raft guide. I now work on the Middle Fork of the Salmon in Idaho doing 6 day long class 4 wilderness trips (SUPER FUN).

Now I'm ready to get back into the business world and am working on a project I'm very excited about.

I'm way into outdoors and adventures!

I don't drink, do drugs, or smoke. But I definitely like to go out and have a good time eating, dancing, chasing women and whatever else. I'm very social and easy to get a long with.

I try to stay relatively healthy and eat right and work out.

Anyways, if your down there or heading down there and interested in a roommate please send me a message. Medellin awaits!

Thanks,
Scott

are you saying that walking around with a fitted new era cap makes you a robbery target?
