People asked earlier about Cartagena. Hot weather, hot women, very unique city I wanna say a cross between New Orleans bourbon street and Havanna Cuba. You gotta stay in the walled city. A lot of fine dinning and sick awesome boutique hotels. Nit's need not apply.

Getsemani is not in the walled city and is pretty nice.

Medellin has 2 rainy reason that last about 2 months each. ~ One Around October and the other around May. Google/Wiki can tell you more about the weather...

Thinking about a vacation in Medellin for like a week around winter time in the States. Trying to figure out what kinda cash I need to save up. How much is a decently big night out maybe buying 20 drinks between myself and hooking girls up. How much is a typical lunch and dinner out gonna run? Any random expenses that will add up besides flight or hotel(white person cab prices maybe?) Where is best to have fun and meet people during the day, beaches or pools that serve alcohol?

I think the most I ever spent on a night in Medellin was like 350k pesos for bottle service, cover and taxis there and back. Most nights between cover and drinks I spend like 150k max. If you just buy mixed drinks and beer it's even cheaper, can easily just drink beer an entire night and spend 75k pesos. Not all clubs have cover either.

most lunch specials in parque lleras are between 12k-16k pesos during the week and net you juice, an appetizer and a main. dinner its a bit more expensive but still very reasonable. there's a spanish tapas restaurant i would frequent and i went with a girl one time, we split 4 plates and a pitcher of sangria, and we each got a desert for 120k total (including standard 8% tip). i would also consider this restaurant to be one of the better ones in poblado which is the most expensive area of medellin.

all cabs are metred. maybe 5~ out of 200+ cabs I've taken have either a rigged metre or the driver demands a higher flat rate that you can just say no and he'll ask for less immediately. a 10m ride during the day in poblado should be like 8k max. rides to & from the airport in rionegro into medellin are a flat 60k including a toll along the las palmas highway.

Thanks, looks like I can get a pretty ballin room for the equivalent of under $100USD/night

Is Medellin awesome during New Year's? I'd like to go then because it kinda sucks in the states IMO, but flights are like $500-$600 more round trip that week than the first week of February.

Why Medellin? How's your Spanish? Do you know anyone in Medellin? Will this be your first time in South America?

If your Spanish isn't good and it's your first time in South America I recommend going to Buenos Aires. Flights are more expensive, but girls are hot, food is amazing, they love to party, lots of things to do and see, and you can get by on little Spanish.

Medellin is a great city, but it's not certain you'll have an amazing time unless you have some things going for you.. But with Buenos Aires there's just too many good things going for it imo it's impossible not to have an amazing time.

First time out of the U.S. I do know a Columbian guy who said he was moving back and might be able to introduce me to people. Why Medellin specifically? I hear there are lots of hot curvy girls and you have high status as a white guy even if you can't dance well or speak much Spanish. Seems like that'd make nightlife fun. Also looks like the plane tickets are at least $1k cheaper round trip than tickets to Buenos Aires, unfortunately cost is a factor. I'll try to learn a little bit if I book a flight and I took 2 Spanish classes in college but I'll speak pretty badly at best.

Bobbo, Medellin is a perfect example of the excellent DC pubes theory. Guys who think Medellin is easy or good for picking up are usually banging low estrato chicks well past their prime (bad breast/ass implants optional). Some guys do legit well in Medellin, but it takes decent Spanish and game. Just showing up as a socially awkward white guy won't do you much.

I would not recommend New Years. It's a family holiday in Colombia. People do go out after celebratory midnight, but I would say it's more fun any other non-holiday weekend. The days between Christmas and NYE are completely dead.

I haven't been back to Medellin in a couple years. Woolly, are those prices for the "estrato seis" clubs? If so, damn Bogota is expensive.

hooters and patrick's both in lleras. patrick's has big four games in english. personally not a big fan of the crowd that hangs out in either but they're your best bet in poblado.

If that's what you want why don't you just hire a Colombian looking escort where you live and save yourself a bunch of money on flights/ hotels/ food etc?

Prices in both Medellin and Bogotá estrato seis clubs and bars are expensive. I remember a bar/ restaurant in Bogotá was charging something like $5 for canned beer.

I'm not a big fan of the people that hang out in these places either. Bunch of pinchados.

Hey Jose..

I've been playing live in aruba for weeks and just planned a week trip to Medellin because I need to leave and reenter aruba before 30 days. Game here is 2-5 and ranges from terrible to not so bad.. but the island is great and its still a profitable game so I'm not ready to head back to CA yet. Anyway, I'm from US and have exclusively played live. Usually higher stakes than this $5 BB game but I'm flexible if I'm somewhere that offers me things I find interesting outside of the poker room... which brings me to my query...

I cant find much info online... I'm sure there are games but if you could give me some advice on casinos and quality/stakes/reliability of cash games in Medellin, I would greatly appreciate it!

Id love to find a regular game there where I can play 30-45 hours a week and enjoy Medellin and Columbia for a few months..

Just back from a few days in Medellin. Found live poker at Rio casino roughly $1/$2 and $2/$4 NLH.

Drinks prices in parque lleras about 17,500 pesos for cocktails.

Looking at moving there. Found a place I want to rent but they want 2 fiadors. Offered to pay 6 months in advance but they wouldn't take.

Probably a stupid question but any way to find someone to act as fiador for me?

Also I googled a bit and seems they have insurance companies you can pay to act as fiadors in other Latin countries. Is this not possible in Colombia?

Yes, that is an option in Colombia too. It's called a CDT, and they'll ask you to put up anywhere from 6-12 months rent. But IIRC it's impossible to open a CDT without getting your cedula first.

Tony, I'm in Medellin now. Played that game at Rio last night for first time. Not a bad game really... lots of absurd gamble had it playing bigger and more profitable than the blinds would suggest. Hopefully that is norm as I got stuck 3mil pesos as a result of that absurdity!

Anyway, Im really intrigued by this city. Starting Spanish classes on Monday. And will play this live game until end of the month then go home for a wedding and reevaluate my next move.

My research tells me it's better to find a place and rent a room than try to lease apt in your name. Just seems too difficult because of Colombia's eviction laws. So, PM me if you want to chat about possibilities.

Also anybody reading:
I'm from USA and do not have a bank outside the country. I'm interested in possibly purchasing a Pokerstars transfer for USD in Medellin. PM me.. thanks!
