Hey all, sry i havent been posting a lot the past two months. Me and my fellow poker players are starting a charity here in Medellin to help the poor. Most likely it will be an education center where they can do their homework,learn english, do fun activities, We also will have a physiatrist talk to them once a week,It is to keep them off the streets and have them in a positive envirnment. This month i have been speaking to Priest,Teachers,Lawyers,Govt officials. We have not picked out a place yet, but once we have we can get the ball rolling. If anyone if interested let me know. I will have more updates once we have a place set up. If anyone has experience with web designing pm me.

Ok. I'm 85% to go Cartagena for a week and Medellin a week in late April. Any tips are helpful. Speak virtually zero Spanish.

No Spanish is not ideal but Cartagena is touristy enough and Medellin expat-y enough that you'll get by.

I'll be in Medellin from the 13th-22nd. Not a grinder, just coming for vacation, but bringing along a grinder buddy. Down to get drinks if anyone wants to meet up. We're both Cali kids / Las Vegas.

When I backpacked through Colombia in 2004 they were selling new condos in Bocagrande on the beach for 40k usd. Probably about what they are worth.

Went to Cartagena last month and it was amazing. Can't wait to go back.

What did you like about Cartagena? The colonial architecture is cool but otherwise there's not much going for it.

It's nice IMO. Quiet town. Good weather. Very good food. Good bar scene. Lacks some of the things you get in a bigger more modern city.

How's the internet in Medellin or SA in general compared to Thailand ? More specifically about the speed for connecting to European servers (Internet is good in Thailand but is much slower at connecting to European servers)

better than thailand, mexico or argentina as i have been told by other grinders here who have been to the aforementioned places

How is the live scene here?

Hey, I'm moving to Medellin in October. I've lived in Costa Rica for 2 yrs--ready for a change. I know most players live in El Pablado, but I usually try to avoid super gringo/tourist areas. I was considering Laureles.

Is cost of living waaay higher in El Pablado vs other areas? (rent, restaraunts, bars...)
Whats the tourist visa policy/how do you handle it?
Whats minimum length of contract on an apartment? Is it easy to find places?


Any info or opinions on El Pablado or other parts of Medellin are greatly appreciated.

I lived in Medellin for 8 months and I will be coming back this September. El Poblado is pretty expensive but very nice. I've heard good things about Laureles. Laureles is a lot less in price. Only real gringo area is around Parque Lleras. I wanna say 95% of Poblado is Colombian.

Tourist visa is good for 3months. You can renew for another 3months. This is based on a calendar year.

Super easy to find places.... a lot of options.

I'd be interested to know about Laureles myself.
