I am from the US and currently been living in Medellin for a while now... Medellin is way safer than any other city in Colombia, you can walk alone that wont be a problem and taxis are all safe.. dont listen to ppl they dont know because they dont live here..

"way safer" isn't saying much in the 15th most dangerous country in the world. It's also not entirely true; Medellin has a higher murder rate than Bogota, and about the same as Cartagena, Barranquilla, and Santa Marta. Medellin does have a significantly lower rate of robberies though, fwiw.

Comparing Medellin with the US as a whole doesn't make any sense anyway.
El Poblado might be 'way safer ' than most of Detroit.
Manhattan might also be 'way safer' than some estrato 1 barrio in Medellin.

I have a couple of rooms available to rent in my penthouse in Laureles.

Room 1 - 1,200,000 cop or ~$400 usd monthly
King size bed, private en suite bathroom, built in closet, large balcony with great views, 40inch smart tv with directv with all channels, wifi

Room2 - 1,000,000 cop or ~$335 usd monthly
Double bed, private en suite bathroom, built in closet and desk, 24inch tv with directv with all channels, wifi

Office - 300,000 cop or ~$100 usd monthly
There is also a dedicated office space available for a small additional fee with hard wired internet and a tri monitor computer setup, perfect for multi tabling online.

Maid - There is a live in maid who keeps the place clean and will clean your room and do your laundry once a week

Common areas
Large open living space with L shaped sofa, dining table, balcony with gas bbq, large kitchen with all utensils, 50 inch smart tv with directv with all channels. wifi throughout

Building
One of the safest in Laureles. It is gated with 24/7 security guards and has a good sized swimming pool.

Location
Great location, quiet neighborhood but walking distance to la 70 (one of the best spots for nightlife in Medellin) also walking distance to Estadio metro, bus routes and the parks and restaurants of Laureles.

1 month minimum stay. 1 month security deposit and 1 month rent up front.
no smokers, no drugs, no hookers (this might rule out 90% of poker players)

pm for photos, more info or to arrange a viewing. rooms available immediately.

I've read the thread but I still dont know about the cheap&decent small or studio apartment situation, could someone please advise me on the current housing options? is 200$ a month feasible in relatively safe neighborhood?(assuming common sense/clean living largely) I think I can personally 'live like a local' (barring robbery due to white skin)

$200 a month is a little low. $300 a month you can get a small studio or 1 bed in an estrato 3, but you'll more than likely run into the fiador problem. (normally to rent an apartment you need 2 people to act as guarantors - fiadors)

Here's the list of banned online sites in Colombia. Doesn't look like it leaves many sites to play on. I play cash PLO, can anyone recommend a half decent site that's still available?

Anybody has some useful info about Santa Marta? Or is there already a thread on it? Will be spending the next 3 months there...

Not true. There are definitely smaller sites you can still use currently. Legal situation seems volatile though. I think having a plan B is wise if anyone's considering going there tho

Perhaps, but I play midstakes and am not interested in changing sites atm. I was lucky enough that my plane ticket that I purchased for Santa Marta had yet to go through, so I got my full refund back Am going to Peru instead.

Haven't considered peru tbh. Looks like a decent spot + Lima seems to have 1 pretty big live poker venue also "atlantic city" casino. I think I will have to visit after I get to Colombia.

What is the "one big live poker venue" you are referring to Treehand?

I am in Peru now and the 3000 Sol buy-in game at Atlantic City was the biggest game I've seen so far.

Well I heard the pokerstars latin American poker tour stops there so figured it wasn't a small poker room. Would you recommend peru? I'm not too bothered about live so no worries for me but would be nice to get some live PLO, they have any games going there?

Hey 2+2.

Any poker players in Medellin, Columbia these days?

I'm a Las Vegas local and will be heading there with some friends Feb 22-27 for some fun.

Any recommendations for places to play for a night on the weekend? We are not going to Medellin to play poker.....there are other distractions the seem more interesting.....but it would be cool to splash around for a night with the locals if there is a good, fun game.

We are staying at an Airbnb in Poblado right by Parque Lleras. Any recommendations (from a casino, to places to eat, discos with hottie, cool bars with live music,) from any locals would be sweet.

Thanks in advance...

Hey guys, I have a Colombian friend who said it's cheaper to wire money to Colombia than it is to just bring money in and exchange it there for pesos. This seems weird to me, can anyone confirm/deny? (I'm from US)
