How big are the Medellin games and how often do they run? In the states we grind $2/$5 so we are looking for as close to that as possible. $5k/$10k would probably work as long as there are some deeper stacks than 30 bb.

Thanks for the input fellas!
There's barely cash games available as I reside here 3-6 months a year. I normally grind online and when want to play live I'll play a daily mtt which is extremely soft. I also grind in Miami and when I come to Medellin live is ridiculously soft

I recently saw that PokerStars shut down in Colombia...wtf...just as I was going to put down roots. Does anyone have any news/thoughts on this?

Is it possible to grind out $3kUS p/mo with the live games?

How are all you guys that came down for PS doing? Are there other sites that you can transition?

Thanks in advance.
**** I'm shocked poker stars shut down in Colombia. I'm a live grinder from Miami but my parents reside in Medellin so I stY here a couple months of the year and normally grind on stars. SMH I guess party or 888 isn't available either. Will have to check. As for live poker there's one cash game that runs in casino RIO very soft game. With 3k US you can try and find cash games with a 500k buy in at casino rio 5k-10k blinds

I read that there was some kind of crackdown on AirBNB, I'm not sure what effect it will have on short term rentals.

Does anyone even live in Medellín anymore? I will probably be moving there next year. Seems like most of the poker communities have died out which a few exceptions.

There has been a crackdown in residential apartments on VRBO and Airbnb. You get around that by signing a 30 day lease even if you're staying for a few days. Just make sure you stipulate in the contract the rate for the number of days you're staying. Only played poker in the casino a couple of nights and it was profitable.

OK, thanks for the update. Sounds like it won't affect too much. I'll be looking for a 3-6 month AirBNB before deciding if I want to make Medellín a more permanent destination.

Did you go to Casino Río? Do you know how often the PLO runs?

Didn't see a PLO game spread but heard that they do. I've been looking to be part time down there as well. The food is great and inexpensive and the people are amazing. You'll have an amazing time but you should learn Spanish.

Yah, I've heard mostly good things. I'm planning to be near fluent in Spanish when I arrive.

Thread has been pretty dead for awhile. I haven't been to Medellín before, but I've done a ton of research and am moving there next year.

From what I gather, it's probably best to grab a cab at night even in the wealthier areas. Definitely don't go wandering alone in el centro at night.

Are cabs safe in Medellin? When I was in Bogota cabs were a big no-no, high risk of robbery/kidnapping. Even the locals I hung out with were extremely cautious of which cabs they picked. Getting my hotel to call a cab required a password that the hotel gives you and the driver is supposed to repeat back to you. Other times that I wanted to go out, I used a private driver that was vetted out by various companies in the U.S.

Does the same not apply in Medellin?

Yes I read cabs can be dangerous. It's advised to always use Uber or the EasyTaxi app.

taxis no more dangerous than any other form of transport. be street smart. dont use your phone in them or when walking on the street and youll be fine. in the worst case that you do get a gun pointed in your face just give it up. your life isnt worth a cell phone or whatever cash you have on you.

Uber is the best in Medellin. You can get anywhere in the city for less than $10 US. It's the safest way to get around the city. In general, don't look like a mark and people will treat you appropriately

You've never been to Colombia, have you? The "cash you have on you" is where they start. If they let you go after that it would be a small miracle, most likely they won't and it only gets worse from there.
