Definitely. Girls are hotter in medellin, and things are generally cheaper, but English is definitely not as prevalent here. It's worth it to learn if you have the time, if I had come to Medellin before Buenos Aires I never would have left. Internet in BA is also pretty ****ty, in Medellin it is the most solid I've ever seen.

I've traveled to a fair number of places, and I can confirm that this is the least English-speaking city I've ever visited. I'm with four other dudes right now and none of us have a lick of Spanish. It's pathetic.

The weather seems pretty awesome in Medellin. I currently live in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico and it's hot as hell here. I either have to blast the AC all day and make myself sick or sweat my ass off.

Do you find that you never really have to use AC there?

You'll never need AC here, just a fan. During the rainy seasons you'll want an umbrella. The weather in Medellin imo is close to perfect.

Story time.

The first night I was here I headed down to Park Llleras. I was mostly exploring ahead of my friends but also hoping to watch my KC Royals in the World Series if it happened to be on somewhere. It was Halloween/Saturday night and I could tell the bars were gearing up for a big night.

As an aside - coolest costume I saw (which as usual I didn't have the balls to stop and ask for a pic) - was a young couple with a little kid. The dad was some kind of zombie monk. The mom was a slutty nun. The kid was a FARC guerilla. Awesome.

Anyway I pretty much walked all of Lleras (which is huge) and finally saw one bar playing the World Series - an Irish Pub-themed bar. I settled in and watch a few innings. After a while I started talking to the only two other people who were watching the game - a couple of American men aged 55-60 I'm guessing. They were rooting for the Mets, but w/e I figured I would talk to them.

Not long after sitting down next to them one dude says something to the other dude like "Your girl ... [unclear]" and the other guy replies "Yeah the 15 year old ... meet her parents".

I was like - did I just hear what I thought I heard? Then about 5 minutes later the first dude starts bragging about his 17-year-old girlfriend (remember these are 55+ish guys). He even made some joke like - why buy a used car when you can buy a new one?

Ugh.

Then he proceeded to tell me how I'm young enough that I will see the coming race war in the US when the welfare checks stop. I told him - dude if the US melts down and drags down the world economy with it, not to mention start WWIII - do you really think you're safe in Columbia? Which of course didn't compute. And a whole bunch of stuff about how your wife takes half if you get divorced and it's unfair. (Again when I told him my gf has way more money than I do - that didn't compute).

Then he proceeded to rattle off a bunch of chain email aphorisms as I struggled to finish my beer and GTFO as fast as I could. I learned that Obama is taking all of Napa County's water and shipping it to Las Vegas. Also Trump is getting a raw deal from the media and would totally win the presidency otherwise.

Apparently, he and the other dude basically divorced their wives and sold everything they owned in the US, moved to Medellin and now both had girlfriends 40+ years younger than them. One of whom is literally going to meet his 15-year-old girlfriend's parents this week. Imagine what that is going to be like.

Yeah you guys really have life figured out. Way to go.

Btw I want to be clear in no way am I ripping on Medellin with this story. I really love this town. I just thought the story was too surreal not to pass on.

Just got back from Cartagena last week. Check out Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas. The food is amazing in Cartagena; go to Agua de Mar for Gin drink (specialty drink at this place) and tapas. My fav by far.
