How about the dealers english skills? Is it hard for them to understand what you are saying to them?
Is this 20/40NL in Chinese currency, or $20/40 NL? Please clarify. Thanks.

Everything in this thread is HKD (or Macau $ / same rate as HK)

so 20/40, is actually 10/20 (at the Grand Lisboa anyways)...

so thats like $1.50 / $3.00 blinds...

Sorry, the above exchange rate isnt right- I was thinkin in RMB (Chinese yuan)

its more like $1.33 / $2.66 blinds

yessir!

it's specifically China where you can't play any online poker.

you can play any online gaming in the SAR regions which include HK and Macau.

Zhuhai to Macau...its the next city over...**** get an apartment right near the border crossing and your basically in Macau. Just have to wait in those dreadful lines at the border. (30 min to 60 min) Avg wait from leaving China and entering Macau and leaving Macau and entering China.

In Guangzhou as long as pokerstars is already downloaded and installed it works fine...

Fulltilt and UB work fine too...

Cost of living in Zhuhai is pretty much the same as Guangzhou. Good shopping in the place around the border crossing to Macau. Anything they quote you in price, you can bargain down at least 40% cheaper..

What's the best payment processer to use in Hong Kong? Ive used Moneybookers and Neteller in UK and they both worked great. I don't think they allow withdrawal to a bank in Hong Kong.

By this do you mean i have to have it installed on the computer beforehand or have the installer file(say like on a keydrive or external drive) as china's firewall will block out the pokerstars.com site?

btw..allyasia, i haven't seen much updates to your blog. I enjoy reading your blog and miss your posts. Post again soon...

ok, I think I just got pwned.

Should've chosen my words more carefully. if I'm not mistaken (which is obviously very possible) it is "illegal" to play poker online in China. this isn't to say that you cannot.

I know that online gambling is looking to be legal sometime (maybe it even happened and I just can't find an article) but as far as I know it's not right now.

these arent recent which is why I say it might've already happened:

Pokerstars "real money" site where you download it, is blocked by the firewall.....

If it is already on your computer, your able to connect and play with no problems

I might be going to Beijing in August ( For the olympics ). I don't have very specific questions yet, but will post them here once i finally decide on whether i'm up for it or not.

One thing that i've always heard about china is the EXTREMELY cheap prices on tech items. How true is that? and would u find brand names for low prices or is it just for locally produced items.

On a similar note, i also hear about excellent quality knockoffs ( watches etc.. ) where would u find stuff like that?

Thanks.

the knockoff places are stupid now. Back 5-10 years ago, each store would be pretty unique and you would find different knockoffs at different boths. Now every single booth sells THE EXACT SAME set of [watches, wallets, belts, purses, shoes, shirts, fill in the blank]. So if one booth doesnt have what you are looking for, 99% of the time none of them will. However, if there is something in particular you are looking for, ask, they might have it in the back, or they can ask other booths if they have it.

from my experience, electronics were not cheaper than what I would have expected, but ymmv.

Electronics cheaper in China?

no way...much more expensive then USA

Ipod 8gb Nano in China is like $250 USD (and it isnt because the USD sucks)

while in USA its $200...

ALL ELECTRONICS IN MAINLAND CHINA have like 25% or higher tax on um...

Thats why everyone on the mainland would usually go and buy their little gadgets in Macau or HK...no tax on those type of items there...

Anyone have info on good hotels -- not dumps but not overpriced. Better yet, is it possible to rent a furnished apartment for a week?

I bought a router in China while on my trip for 20 USD. It's a d-link, middle of the road type of router that's all in chinese. The thing was fine for the trip but absolute POS compared to the TrendNet router I have now. I thought I got a router for cheap in China but turns out to be completely useless.
