You also have to consider that there arent as many poker players in Macau as in Vegas. It is not as big of a business for them.

Now here is where you come and post some random pics of hot chicks from clubs. Well i dont care, i look at the hotness level averaged over every woman. Taiwan doesnt rank high.

Also the people in this city all seem like huge douches, present company NOT excluded.
Guys who aren't chodes don't worry about the average girl. Not surprised you do.

Do you think they offer the rates to poker players, or to baccarat players? Seriously.

Im sorry mr. 臭台湾人 that i have offended you and your friends. I have posted that i hate many many places, but most people, notably peterk9, take what i say with a grain of salt, realizing that I only really appreciate cities in the north east of china.

I have told peter on multiple occasions that i hate 广州 . And guess what? he wasnt super duper butthurt like you were. He likes south china, i like north china. Not a huge deal, we still get along decently in this thread. Pretty sure if he every found him self stuck out in north china he would ask for whatever help as i would if i were ever stuck down there.

Regardless you have no idea what hot women look like and should really just delete your account.

Hottest chicks in Asia are not in Taiwan, I'd say the average Korean girl on the street looks better than most in Asia. The Korean chicks (Japanese chicks too) know how to doll themselves up nicely. (Korea: Surgery included obv )

No you can not go to the Canadian embassy to get a visa?
You need to go the the embassy of the country you want to visit to get a visa for that country, atleast that's how we do it in Holland.

Furthermore it gives you a good oppertunity to visit Hong Kong or Macau (as Canadian you can enter without restrictions), you can get a visa for China there. Just drop of your passport in the morning and pick it up in the evening, easy game.
HK has connections to allmost all airports in China

Have been in Macau for a while now. When it comes to long stay rates, I suggest the following which worked very well for me.

1. Book a hotel online for a couple of days.
2. In Macau, walk into hotels and ask for long stay rate.
3. If you want to stay 1 month or longer, walk into an agent and ask for apartment.

I did spend around one hour to walk around in central Macau to look for a 14 nights hotel stay. I did find it for flat rate 550/night NET even if we approach CNY. The standard on the hotel is similar to Holiday Inn but cheaper; including free internet also. Located 5 minutes walk from Lisboa.

Then I did walk into one of the property agents located not far away from MGM in the quarters which head to Sands. I asked for 1-2 months stay and was prepared to pay HKD 10K/month. I got an offer of a small apartment in Taipa, very close to Altira for HKD 3750/month + commission 1000 for the agent. I got it for 2,5 months. And this include the time during CNY. I did have a look at the apartment and it was fine with security guard in front; included air con (not needed now though), laundry machine, TV, furniture. Fine in my book. I signed the contract and move in there 1 February.

Guys, I've been wading through a lot of threads about online poker in China, setting up VPNs etc, but haven't really seen this question answered:

Since online poker is illegal in China, what are the consequences of "getting caught"? In addition, what's the chance of getting caught when using a VPN? I am considering moving to China for 2-3 months but I would have no other activity than online poker. I would obv tell authorities I'm a tourist, but I'd be staying in a vacant room in a European friend's flat rather than traveling around and staying in hotels. Do I have anything to worry about?

In the EU you can basically just do whatever the f you want and get away with it, even if it's borderline illegal, but I've been cautioned by some people that things don't work like that in China. Thoughts?

Authorities don't give **** about you playing poker.
I've played for 6months without VPN. As foreign researchers @ the uni we attracted way more attention then other foreigners (what if we published 'bad' papers about China, that thinking patron).
Nowadays in the big cities there are a lot of foreigners and lots of Chinese play poker. Playing poker publicly on the other hand, chips AND money on the tables will get you in a lot of trouble (they just kick you out of the country). In general they don't like to arrest 'white' foreigners, because of all the diplomacy issues (unless it's a serious crime).
With a VPN you should be even more safer, but I'm not sure how these things are monitored by the government (or if they even can monitor them)

Thanks for your reply peter.

I'm kinda confused though - I thought poker operators were blocked in China and a VPN was mandatory to be able to run the software/log in/play, don't remember the exact specification. Is this not true?
Official China Thread (Macau, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, etc) Quote

That is correct, operators are blocked. It is illegal, but no1 seems to be bothered. If you travel to China, make sure you downloaded all the clients before departure. You can update, but you can not download the software inside China.
You do not need a VPN to play though.
Where does your friend live?

So they block the sites so you can't download anything but they can't block you from running the software, is that what you're saying?

That's weird. When I was in Singapore visiting another friend I tried playing on Party. I could open the client but when I tried to sit down at a table it said something like "No access from this region." in a more eloquent way.

My friend lives in Chengdu.

Maybe party poker specifically disallows people in singapore or PRC from accessing their site. Just a guess as i have never played on that site.

As a side note, if you get your visa in HK instead of your country of citizenship... you will be charged much more money, and your duration of stay will be less then it would be if you applied back home. You also will not be able to get a visa that is valid longer then six months. (Im American, not sure if it is different for other countries)

I can get a 1 year, multiple entry Business visa (F) at the Chinese consulate in NYC for about 1/2 of the cost that I would pay for a six month visa in HK. Also, in NYC, it takes me less then 4 hours where as in HK you drop off at 9am and pick up at 6pm.

Doesnt make sense to me that it can be done easier back in USA then part of their own country (HK).
