where r u from that u would need a visa to go to Macau?

If u do need a visa for some reason to go to Macau, I wouldnt screw around by overstaying a visa....You'll be fined, and they have reason to detain you if for some reason they feel like it.

If your traveling all the way to the other side of the world, I'd def recommend checking out other places then just Macau. Macau has nothing to offer besides gambling, whores, and decent food. The nightlife pretty much sucks, since most bars/clubs are just filled with whores.

There are a bunch of cool places to see within two hours of Macau. Check out Hong Kong, Zhu hai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and then Dongguan for hookers if thats your thing.

China is a really cool country with lots to see and do, dont waste it by playin cards the whole time.

If you have an American passport, no need for a visa to go to Macau or Hong Kong.

Just came back yesterday, if you posted this last week would've hooked you up no vig. Sorry.

Also if you're looking to play tourneys you could buy into them using ps account I think, although there are none worth playing during the week before friday.

Just want to let you know, the APPT is at Grand Lisboa not Grand Waldo. If you stay over by Grand Waldo, you'll be about as far from the tournaments as it's possible to be in Macau (about 15 min taxi).

I was in Macau yesterday and have to say that the Grand Lisboa totally rocks. They had free shows with halve naked women (and for ~30 euro you can attend a show where they go naked). Also played poker there. Really cool table with nice guys. However they all talked Chinese the whole time. The dealer told me everybet in English. And some of them talked English to me. I had a great time.

Grand Lisboa is a total chinese degen place just like the old Lisboa imo. The only nice thing about it is the architecture from outside.

Instant lung cancer due to all the smoke and warehouse / cantine style layout. Place filled with old chain smoking chinese degens. The sexy ang moh shows just add to the degen diceyness of it all.

Seems to have the least regs in macau though, probably because they all died of lung cancer already.

Each to his own though.

Hey guys. Going to Macau in a few months. Ive read the entire thread, and theres not much talk about the hotels there. Can anyone give a list as to the best, most reasonably priced (and basic) hotels that are near the main area of Macau?

Im only going for 1/2 days, so need a basic, decent hotel that is (preferably) near the casinos that have poker. Any recommendations? These are a list of the ones that are available, and are in my price range (via expedia):

- Holiday Inn Macau
- Hotel Royal Macau
- The Venetian Macao Resort Hotel
- Starworld Hotel And Casino
- Mgm Grand Macau
- The Wynn itself (but is a little pricier).

Would you recommend booking it in advance, online, or just wait until we get there? We are going some time between Mon-Fri. Ive also heard some people talk about staying at a Sauna place (I think), would that be the best option if we are only looking for somewhere to stay for one night?

Out of these the MGM is the best option by far. If you're willing to spend a little bit more, Grand Lisboa isnt that much pricier than the MGM and might be a better option for poker.

The room at the Grand Lisboa is pretty sick, we stayed there a couple of weeks back, it has a jacuzzi/steam room, a huge rain shower and Bang and olufsen tv and sound system.

The Venetian has a huge room (600 sq ft suite) but is a little far if you wanna play poker. Macau is basically 2 different places connected by a bridge. Starworld, MGM, Wynn and Grand Lisboa are all bunched up in one area. Venetian is on a different island and is near city of dreams on the cotai strip. It's a 5 min taxi from Venetian to main Macau.

Just wanna add another +1 for Macau being completely awesome and the sauna at the Rio Grand being absolutely ridiculous and the girls are 'Shiba' flipping gorgeous and the cash games at the Wynn super fishy and the poker stars poker room at the grand lisboa being ... just ok.

Glory I'm not sure about the electronic department stores in Macau but you could take a quick ferry to HK and buy one there which has a few massive ones.

And yeah ATMs work fine.

How would one go about getting a condo in Shanghai for 2-3 months aside from the usual channels (craigslist + first couple google pages) ?

I'm looking for a new studio apartment / 1BR for 8k RMB max in a central location.

I am currently living in Bangkok and I'd like to move somewhere else pretty soon, still pondering my options. What the cheapest monthly rent I could find in HK ? Or is there any one of you needing a roomate ?

Im moving to Beijing in 9 days and am wondering what some good VPN services are so that I can play PokerStars in Beijing. Can anyone tell me their experience with the internet there, and Poker Software in general?

No need for a VPN. As long as you have the software installed on your computer, you can play. You can't access the pokerstars website to download the software.
