Anyone know any places in Beijing where I can play live poker? Sports bars, etc?

I am in Shanghai regularly and play in live games there often but don't know of any in Beijing.

thread seems dead...

calling hookers from the street pimps at 5am morning was a huge bucket of fail.

Today we found a real nice massage/sauna wich specials thanks to my friends chinese buisiness friend.

Its really so so so much better if you have someone with you who can speak chinese.

If anyone can shed light on KTVs that would be really nice.

No need to look for hookers...if u want one, they'll find u....

Many hang out in certain bars and clubs and if your not with other girls, they'll approach you. Especially in Tang and Cellar. Also expect to find many Colombian and Russian hookers there too.

As far as ktv's, if you like the girl your with I'd say most of them would go back with u after wards...expect it to cost 1,000 rmb from a nice ktv place in the major cities.

Some hotels have ktv places within them. In my one experience of messin with ktv girls, I just used the hotel room for an hour.

Too make a long story short of my experience, my Chinese friend asked me if I wanted a girl...I joked around and said I wanted 2...within minutes, an additional ktv girl entered the room, and her and the other ktv girl who I had chosen to chill with at the beginning of the night escorted me up to the hotel room. I had fun with both, and had to stop and run to the bathroom every 10 minutes to throw up..... I had drank way too much that night, and never finished the deed . At least I didnt have to pay for anything since my friend had covered it.

We were basiclly just staying on this street with a lots of clubs aka babyface, hey hey or new power and they all seemed like non hookers places. Even the sauna next to the KTV on the same street had " no sex " .

it was propably mentioned before but why was it that you choose guangzhou as your place to stay? Do you have family, relitives or friends there?

I came here for actual work in 3/07, and was only going to stay for about 4 months, too learn the whole procedure that goes on in a factory and with making cases. I was then suppose to go back to USA and sell for this particular factory.... things didnt exactly work out as planned, and I really liked China, so I decided too stay and work in China, instead of working on the USA side of the business.

When I came here in 2004, it was more of an internship/traveling type deal. I was still in my middler year of college, and we had a co-op program, and I got an offer to come out here to check it out.

China is NOT your friend - meetup.com is blocked by the government.

Jaywks - I'm in Beijing right now but I am headed to Shanghai in a week or two and would be interested in meeting up. I'll PM you with more.

Are you doing the Spring semester? How much are you paying? Are you staying in the university housing or a private apartment off campus? I'm thinking about BLCU but the cons outweigh the pros right now.

Yeah, Spring semester starting the 3rd week now. Tuition was 11,600 RMB for 20hrs per week from 19th Feb - 1 July. I think its around 19k for 30hrs per week

I'm living off campus, in a pretty nice 2 bed apartment for 5000 per month. that's on the high side from what my friends have told me

what r the cons exactly? apart from mandarin is seriously hard

Is this an actually University? or JUST a Chinese school offered to foreigners?

Beacsters- Id look into this, 11,000 rmb is less then 2 grand usd, and if its at a "respectable" University/College, it'd def be worth the money.

The pros are:
1) The university is very respectable. It's like one of the Ivy leagues in China.
2) Mandarin program is stellar and teachers all speak very standard Putonghua.
3) Lots of cool touristy things to do near Beijing.

The cons are:
1) it's hard to get learn by immersion there because most students don't make an effort to learn and tend to speak English with one another.
2) Beijing is very polluted.
3) it gets hot during the summer, which is when I wanna study.
4) Beijing is one of the most expensive cities in China.
5) there's the RRRR thing that some don't like.

This is from what I've read on Chinese-forums.com.

But I'm still thinking about doing a short program there. Have to do more research.

thanks,

The RRRR thing does sound kinda weird. You can always spot the person from Beijing.

Funny...its not that difficult...

In some areas, you ll be harassed more by the drug dealers then the beggars...

The drug dealers are all African and they ll come up to you, so you wont have to do any searchin.
