I dont think its a big deal, Every different province in China has a complete different accent when they speak mandarin.

Have you ever heard a person from Sichuan speak Mandarin? Awful, and thats who Im usually learning my Chinese from, ha.

A Person from Beijing is going to sound alot different then the person from Guangzhou speaking Mandarin.

I guess if you wanted to speak "proper" mandarin you should be learning from a person from Beijing.

Dujiangyan, Jiuzaiguo and Huanglong. These are the most famous scenery areas and where tourists go. I was there 2 years ago but heard much of the parks got destroyed in the earthquake.

okay..
I am planning a trip around the end of Feb./march to Macau. I have about two weeks and want to spend some time in Macau. I think I would also like to spend some time in Hong Kong. Perhaps a trip to Bangkok? Anyway I have a few questions

How are the current poker games in Macau? I have read the forums and it seems Wynn is the best place to play. Are the games there good? Are they better at other casinos? Should I stay at the Wynn

I wouldnt mind getting in a few rounds of golf while I am there. If you know anything about the courses there that would be great.

What about Hong Kong? Ive never been there and would love some good advice.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hey guys

I'm traveling around/ playing poker for a year and just arrived in HK today (previously i was in ba with that crew, then traveled through argentina, peru and then japan for a month. Anyone want to hang out- meet up for drinks?

I also think I'm gonna be getting coaching for table tennis here in hk and need a place to stay, cause my hostel kindof sucks. Does anyone have a spare room/ desk? I'd be happy to pay a reasonable rate or make an exchange for coaching and looking to stay for 2-3 weeks

thanks

Ian

Wynn is great to play, but expensive to stay. Games also good at Starworld but Wynn primo at the moment. Depending on what your budget is, many hotels near Wynn

what are some pros and cons to moving to Taiwan for a year? Possible cities include Taichung and Kaohsiung. I do not know much about Taiwan but I have an opportunity to go there for a year.

Are you ready to pay USD$400 for a round of golf? If so there is a very nice course at the Macau Golf Club, and there is also the Orient Golf Club which I believe is a lot cheaper but the scenery is not as good.

Probably will pass on the opportunity to pay USD$400 to play golf, unless of course the 25/50 games are particularly kind to me. Thanks for the info though.

Go to the Wynn, grand lisboa will be dead...

Style of play last weekend was much different then anything Ive seen in Macau. Some of the locals are picking the game up fast, and are becoming really crazy aggro...

Wynn definitely busy but Grand Lisboa had 9 tables running yesterday. I haven't seen them with less than 5 tables for over a month...not dead at all.

Have to disagree with this. Starworld or Grand Lisboa are the better choices as you will not be able to get a seat at Wynn unless you arrive by 1pm.

Sounds like the players at Wynn are becoming crazy aggro as well so easier action elsewhere.

So after doing many hours of research, I've deduced that Harbin or Dalian are the best cities for studying Mandarin. I have looked into the CET program offered in Harbin and have read many good things about it but it requires at least one year of prior study. I am a complete beginner.

Does anyone know of any language programs in either city? Ideally from April through September.

I studied mandarin at a place in Guangzhou at Imandarin, I know they have other schools outside of Guangzhou but not sure about Harbin or Dalian...

the cina hotel by j.w. marriot os very nice. Its very modern & stylish ans cheap compared to other cities on the same hand.

We got pretty drunk today and I def recommend the " babyface club " after we went to " hei hei club " which was nice but very very crowded and kind of toruisty if you will so I do personally I do not recommend unless you with a group of people imncluding girls. Do not recommend for single guys. We also went to the windsor cafe which i didnt liek at all first but after the female staffs came to us and intruduced us to the chinese culture dice drinking game i loved it. calling hookers at 7am in the morning was a fail though. srs if this post is messed up but im vey vey drubk atm.

cheers
