because it unmasks the true IP= they know which country you're really in. lots of money has been seized by stars

You can set things up so that this wont happen, I can't imagine why you wouldn't take the time to do this if playing with significant amounts of real money.

yeah, i think you can "rent" a router of some sort within the VPN company you subscribe to? or something along those lines.

there is a program you can install called vpn blocker so if your vpn disconnects it will not reveal your true location, it's available if you use strongvpn.com

Yeah I dunno I have a hard time understanding how you'd make such a stupid mistake as to not take proper precautions when using a VPN to play poker to support yourself

it is not that simple as far as I know.. it is very easy to spot someone using a VPN service

a normal internet user will have information about his provider .. if you use a VPN there is no such information . ...

so for pokerstars it is very easy to see if someone is using a VPN or not .. has nothing to do with connection time-outs ...

they don't have to know your "true location" all they need to know is if you are using a VPN or not .. VPN use is forbidden .. even if your true location is an ok one to play poker from on stars .. they will still freeze your account because of the VPN use ...

Host the VPN from a company or location that does not resolve to "VPN HOSTING SERVICE" or something like this. If you are tunnelling properly, there should be no way for anyone to tell.

I'm interested.

Totally new to the forum. Longtime online and live poker player-quite solid too. 31 y/o professional with an undergraduate and graduate degree in business. Spent three years working in private equity and two years working in consulting @ Deloitte. Originally from Detroit and spent the last four years in New York and just moved to Shanghai to check out some business opportunities which am unsure whether they will pan out. Need a place to stay for two or three months.

Not sure why but cannot send private messages yet. If you can feel free to do so as I would be interested in making the move asap.

Hey,

My friends are coming to China and I'm planning on visiting Shanghai in July with them for three days.
We have no idea what will be the most interestings things to visit. Any local has any suggestions.
What would you recommend hotel/location wise?

I stay at the hilton whenever i go down there. decent hotel.

do the bund, old city, xin tian di and there is probably lots more.

if you cant figure anything to do for a day take a daytrip to hangzhou and see west lake (45 min train ride).

For just about every city in China that is going to vary hugely based on how you want to live. Will you be eating foreign food often? Will you be drinking often? It's really a huge range.

I can get buy on like 600 USD a month easily by myself if i dont drink or party. You can live for significantly less than that if you want to live like a peasent.

But now that work takes care of my apartment i could live cheaper. I dont because i have 3 gf's, 2 of which expect me to take them shopping every week.

Not sure how it is in other cities but there is a major crackdown on foreigners going on in Guangzhou. No passport with you is = going to the policestation for a few hours and have a friend get your passport. Very inconvenient. Furthermore, if you teach etc and don't have the proper visa you are f*cked.
