I've been meaning to make it to Sanya and Haikou for a long time but my plans fell through this month. Do you like it? Where are you living and what is it like? Pretty much all I've heard is that there are a ton of Russians.

Hello. I currently live in Zhaoqing (Guangdong) and am looking to deposit on Stars. I'm American so I need to provide proof of residency. Among the proof is a utility bill with my name and address clearly shown. However, I live on-campus and pay no utilities. Is there a way to get around this? Do you think my residence card would work?

Also, anybody know of any home games in GZ?

Get on gzstuff and join the pokergroup. I heard there is a frequent game going on in Panyu, but that is FAR FAR away for you.
Why are you working in the middle of nowhere? Enough teaching jobs in Guangzou

My teaching contract has an 8000 RMB early termination clause so I'm stuck here until this upcoming semester is finished.

I'm definitely looking for Fall 2012 jobs in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and to some extent Zhuhai, but I'm leaning towards Guangzhou.

As for Zhaoqing, I like living here. It's quiet and I pretty much have a monopoly on the dating market since I'm the only foreigner around

Thanks for the gzstuff tip. I'll check it out. I go to GZ every few weeks anyways so going to Panyu wouldn't be a big deal.

do u guys know if it's possible to play in any casinos in HK/Macau being 20 years old? If so, which ones would you recommend (I'm a LHE player, but I heard they don't have LHE games so would be interested in NL/PLO cash games equivalent to $2/4 - $5/10)?

There are no casinos in HK.
The limit in Macau is 18 years.
They have NLHE cash games equivalent to $2/4-$5/10.

The smallest stakes they have is 10-25 HKD. You can buy in for a max of 5000 HKD which gives you a lot of wiggle room to play some exotic hands. If you can beat .1-.25 NL on Stars you can beat this game so don't be intimidated.

hello,

This thread is incredibly wrong so ill just ask. I am an american that arrived to macao a few weeks ago. Just got to HK yesterday and made a HSBC bank account. Ill be doing alot of traveling for the next few months and wanted to play online poker. Other than stars (which i believe requires proof of residency etc etc) what are my choices as far as poker sites that will accept money from my HK bank account? Ill be wiring money from my US bank accounts to HSBC shortly. I play mostly hu, so a variety of sites would be a +. Also, will i have trouble with HSBC/HK if i have somewhat large amounts moving on and off pokersites/US bank account? I was thinking 10k ish spread around on a few sites to start. Is there anything I should watch out for?

I believe i read ipoker and party poker does not do business with HK banks, is this true? so far the sites ive been interested in are ipoker,ongame,888 poker, party, and microgaming. ive been so out of the online poker loop, i dont really know all my options. any help is much appreciated. thanks!

None of the bank do direct business with any the poker sites in HK with normal saving a/c. You maybe able to wire money to them, but mind you T/T can be pretty expensive.

For credit card, most banks if not all blocked all of the "gaming" site. Sure HSBC will not work with any of them directly.

thanks for the reply.

so are there no online pros here in HK? so i just left a bunch of money in an HSBC account that i cant use? Is it just HK HSBC that does no business with online poker sites or just HSBC of HK/few other countries. There are HSBC's all over the world, for example mexico, are they in the same boat?

I guess if this route fails (looks like it already has), ill have to go to korea and make a bank account. The korean banking laws arnt as liberal, and im going to have to jump through hoops to make one

any other input would be uber appreciated.

~thanks guys

Its the law of Hong Kong that stop you, gambling is a monopoly here, either the Hong Kong Jockey Club, which they only do horse racing and soccer or you are frighting in court.

There are ways to get money through, just expensive.

So I kind of got ***'ed over at my English teaching job in Yangshuo, now I'm heading to someone where in the north of Hunan. Anyone know anything about Hunan?

Hunan seems like a pretty boring province. If I were you I'd go to one of the bigger cities–Wuhan, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Guilin. You can literally find work just by asking people. Remember that internet advertisements only represent maybe 10% of the actual amount of English jobs available. I hope you find work soon because the school year starts tomorrow! Good luck!

Im with this guy and wuhan would be at the top of my list in those cities.

If you are adamant about living in a rural-ish area try anhui. Yellow mountian is really fun, bengbo has some good food etc.

But if it has to be hunan, id probably not go with changsha. Go to hengyang or something, but i know very little about these cities.

I hated Wuhan went I went through there, but I was only there for a night.

What happened with your job in Yangshuo? If you're in China on a tourist visa just go to wherever appeals to you and ask about jobs.

Hunan food is good. It's a pretty poor place in general though, I would recommend Shanghai.

good food in Hunan go eat some stinky toufu.

I've been to Changsha; the capital city of Hunan for like 2 weeks but it was to visit friends; standard big chinese city I guess; not much to say about it tbh. I don't think they have too many tourists going there.
not hotel rec. cuz well my friends own a 5stars hotel there so I was just housed for free ^^
go to 火宫殿, Huo Gong Dian restaurant if you're there; not alone, bring some friends.
the Provincial Museum is okay to visit; was done with it after 30min tbh. but they have some cool chinese mummies.
and not that many places to go visit around.

just go to Kunming or Chengdu?
