Hi,

I'll be in Hong Kong for 3 days between the 28th and the 31st. I want to spend about 180€/night for the hotel. Any recommendiations? Also, how much do I pay for a menu in a decent-good restaurant on avg? Any mustcasinos to check out?

Ty!

imbadd, I've stayed in the Excelsior hotel before on Causeway Bay, which is around that price. Very decent hotel and great location.

Not for Taipei - even New Years was orderly. We que up pretty well... hell they que up for riding the elevator up..and leave the left side open for those who need to run up the elevator. Hong Kong - they stand on both sides and block. South Korea.. its a motherf'n free for all with zero traffic control. Japan - crushed sardines. India: ride or die on top.

Nothing made me appreciate Taiwan more than my first month in the mainland.

Can any of you guys recommend some good movies or tv shows from mainland China? (I like using them to practice my mandarin listening skills, in addition to chinesepod.)

Ashes of time
失恋33天
Let the bullets fly 让子弹飞

Ip man is also available with mandarin audio, altho I think it's in cantonese standard. Not sure. I watched it in mandarin.

Would also like to see more. Tips welcome.

ETA: a girl I used to date tried to sell me Lost In Thailand (人再囧途之泰囧) numerous times. It's chinese comedy, the trailer looks horrible, but it's supposed to be a pretty big deal. She said it's hilarious.

I can confirm lost in thailand is absolutely hilarious, both the first and second one. i saw the second one in theater with a girl i use to date, definitely worth the watch if you get a chance.

It was mentioned awhile back in this thread that live poker exists in Wuhan. If anyone has any info or knows where info could be found, that'd be cool.

is the 3g signal of a chinese sim card strong enough to surf with it in macau? i require a chinese ip adress, thats why i ask

You'll definitely have to enable international usage with your carrier first. Chinese sims don't work anywhere else if you don't.

Oh and I just realized that if you're connected with a HK/Macau carrier your 3G will simply have a HK ip address as well. I think the only way to have a Chinese ip address in a foreign country is by using a Chinese VPN.

小时代 or Tiny Times in English was one of the most popular movies last year. It's terrible on all fronts but its a good conversation starter...especially if you're talking to people under 25. Just say something about how you thought all Chinese people were materialistic like in the movie then you'll hear an earful for about an hour. Good stuff!

If you like period movies, check out 赤壁 Red Cliff. I think it came out in 2008 or something so it's not that old. It was directed by John Woo...I think he won an academy award or something but I just know him as the guy who directed Hard-Boiled.

GOD OF GAMBLERS 賭神 You much watch this series even though its in Cantonese...I'm sure you can get it dubbed in Mandarin, English, or whatever. Since we're on a gambling forum, this is mandatory! The first movie has Chow Yun-Fat and Andy Lau, the sequel has Andy Lau and Stephen Chow...those are like the 3 biggest HK actors of all time. After the first two movies, the web of sequels gets confusing but at least see the first two! Get on it! Have fun and xi nian kuai le!

A cursory search shows this hasn't been asked or answered recently (I apologize if it has been). How are people depositing on Pokerstars these days?

If you are registered with your Chinese address your options are limited to Entropay/Webmoney/chineseVISA/bankwire.

If you're registered somewhere else and just play from China, nothing changes. You may need to use a VPN to deposit with skrill/moneybookers because MB blocks gambling deposits inside China.

For my case specifically, I just had my address updated to China (rec player). Before I lived in China I was in Taiwan and used Skrill without any issues. Obviously, that isn't an option here.

Maybe this comes across as stupid or paranoid, but I'm just wondering which options open to players in China are feasible/recommended.

It's a pain in the ass to be honest. EntroPay charges an absurd amount of fees and I can't even seem to find out how Webmoney actually works.

If you can get USD on your Chinese bank account, I think that might be your best option. It's ~5k USD minimum though. If you have a Chinese VISA card linked to it, that would probably be even easier.

For smaller deposits I guess you could find someone to do a player transfer with you.

I don't know if they still do this, but if you're in Macau, you can walk into the Pokerstars poker room with a few stacks and they'll upload it to your account for free.

As far as I know. This is not allowed. Only winnings from tourney scores can be loaded onto PS account.

Would be fantastic if we can deposit into online account in person. Hopefully this will be possible in the future.

Yes. All the PS banners and branding are a little misleading, it's basically a City of Dreams card room with an option to register online for some of the tournaments. So bring cash if you want to play cash games
