Didnt see a thread about this yet so i thought id make one. Going to North korea during september and wondering if anyone has sites we should go visit? I know all the tours are state run but as far as i know they still let you choose between several sites to go to.

We are also still looking for more people to join us there. Now you might wonder why the hell would i go to North Korea. I tried to think of reasons but found it hard to describe what makes North Korea so special. I think North Korea can be best described as the most Surreal country in the world. Not a lot is known about the country except whatever propaganda the communist party in North Korea decides to release. I think this video made by Vice sums up North Korea the best. This video is part 1 of a 3 part series.

We might also do do a short trip to Tibet afterwards but nothing has been booked yet. Prices should be ~1100 euro per person for North Korea and 1800 euro for North korea + tibet. Prices might be lower if more people will come. Trip itinerary will also depend on how many people will join and which tour guide we get assigned. Below is an example of what a tour could look like.

Please let me know if you are interested as soon as possible since the process of getting a visa is a long and tedious one. This is especially true for Americans and might involve bribes.

getting a North Korea passport stamp is a great way to mess up future trips through airports and customs.

Those links were great mate cheers for those. Its in my top ten of places to go but won't be this year for sure, would be interested in a TR when you get back.

I'm going to Myanmar later this year which is I guess one of the few other places in the world remotely like NK as far as the government is concerned, but obv not as isolated and controlled. Tourists are in fact pretty welcome and looked after by all accounts.

There are ways around having your passport stamped and the way your visa is applied. Basically they will just tape on the visa and it can be easily removed after your trip.

The real North Korea would be really cool/sad to see. The state-run tour will make the place seem better than it is, but should still be a surreal experience as you said.

i guess a visit to North Korea would be interesting, but I'm not sure if it's something that would necessarily breathtaking or even interesting in a good way.

i certainly admire your courage and curiosity, though. as a korean, i would never venture into North Korea even if there are chicks prostituting themselves for food.

when you go, please make a thread with pictures. i've seen the fake apartments from south korea and the dmz (plus stories from my relatives who escaped from n. korea). i just want to know what it's like to travel there.

You can request your visa and stamp to be handed to you outside of your passport on a seperate paper. Ive heard reports that people with a stamp in their passport of north korea arent able to enter the states. So i will probably be forced to do this.

i'm also travelling with OP to NK so i guess i can try answering some questions too.

as for why: why not?

it should be fun/weird/different. that's it. there's no trip/place/regime like it on earth as far as i know, and there's no reason to believe it will be possible to travel there forever given the possibility for regime change/reunification/war/etc.

i mean we do bottles in vegas and all of that nonsense in the summer, every trip doesn't have to be that. what's wrong with something a little (or a lot) different?

I'm surprised North Korea stamps passports at all. Surely it can only cause problems, so why do it? Several countries I've been to didnt stamp passport. Cuba, for example, didn't. And with good reason.

Anyway. Interesting trip idea. GL HF.

Damn this sounds like a pretty cool adventure.

The video says they couldn't get into North Korea, what has happened since that means you can now get in? and what may change in the future to stop you being able to go there?

About passport stamping in general, when you get home couldn't you simply through destroy your passport and say you lost it and get another one?

^^^ Do this. I did a visa run/weekend vacation to Columbia and was harassed everytime I came back to the states intill I got a new passport. Could have been a coincidence, but I doubt it.
