Few months ago I've started a thread, where i announced, that i gonna move to Manila for playing poker. Well this didnt work out and destination changed to Thailand, Phuket. Thats why i started a new thread with better name.

Sooo, I have finally booked a flight to Thailand, Phuket. 12th Sept i fly with a mate from Frankfurt Airport to Phuket, where Ive book a cheap hotelroom for 7 days. In these 7 days we gonna look around for a nice house and rent one for probably 3 months. My mate is generally playing nl100/nl200 CG on 888, and I am mostly a MTT player, so its kind of a mix

I had financial struggle and alot of debts going on, which i wanted to grind away in Thailand. Well fortunate Ive made a huge Score in a 320$ tournament recently Obv I didnt buy into it directly, won a 3$ turbo extended rebuy satty day before.

As you can see, the huge win was my last one. Since than i started managing things for my trip and wasnt able to play.
So now my financial situation looks alot better. I only have left €8k debt on one visacard and €10k+ on creditcards on money, which i could use, if i need it. So now I have a nice little buffer in case of downswings.

Oh btw, i have booked my Thailand tickets same day, when I played the Baby Whale. In the afternoon tickets were booked and in the evening ive played the Whale

I plan to keep this blog updated at least once a week, at least once im in Phuket and start grinding. I am thinking about to start some kind of a vlog/session highlights from my trip, but not sure so far. Im really not that kind of a person for vlogs but maybe ill try, ill let you know.

Feel free to ask question, in case i forgot something to tell here

What's the line on this guy being more broke in 6 months than he is now? Phuket isn't the best place to go to put your head down and grind.

Imo its up to the person, if he is gonna be able to do that or not in phuket.
Weak persons wont do it, if they dont want it hard enough, i personally think ill be able to get out there at leaaast break even. For me this trip is a beta-fulltime-grind. If this wont work out, ill forget about the fulltime-pro-dream... if it goes well, ill keep on doing it. And its pretty important to me, so i think i gonna be able to concentrate on the grind (obv not 24/7 as i e told in manila thread, since i had that 20k win, but still a decent ammount of time..)

I like the spirit of your post but your "beta-fulltime-grind" should be in your home country for a few months. Here's my rationale:

When you are at home, in a first-world country, you are grinding under the best possible conditions. You have a nice desk & chair, you have air conditioning, you have great broadband speeds for internet, you have the food you want, you have electricity & water 24 hours/day, you have a nice bed for rest/sleep, etc, etc. You have created an environment that is best for you and proper grinding. If something in that environment changes, you can probably fix it in a short amount of time.

When you move to a third-world country (that is also a new country for you) I GUARANTEE that at least one (most likely more) of the above items will not be the same for you. Do you know how hard it is to find a proper desk chair in a third-world country? Can you apply the same focus when it's hot as hell with mosquitos in your room and all your rental has is an electric fan?
Things that are simple for you to fix now will not be as simple in another country.

And keep in mind that my rationale doesn't even include the effect of all the other distractions that will be new to you (going out, partying, girls, etc).

If you can't grind and make money at home on a full-time basis then I think it's a mistake to think you can do that in a third-world country.

Most of your reasoning are true..but atleast he got experience and creating memories one in a lifetime

No one is saying to not do the trip. But don't expect to grind full time and be profitable if you can't do it at home. That's a perfectly reasonable statement, son.

GentlemanJack, you're mixing up countries. I don't think that sourcing any of the items mentioned above will be any problem whatsoever and living conditions can be quite good depending on budget.

The rest is kind of true.

20k wow, don't spend it all at once. And after discounting debt the grand total of assets for funding this experience stands at 2k? OK, better than before, but you'll need to find a lot of grind within yourself to make it count for anything. Managing the trip has held you up for at least 5 full days of grinding... the direction this is going doesn't seem healthy considering you were struggling and lacked motivation before.

BTW what happened to the GF, who was supposed to come with? Is she gone or what? In that case, chances of success will be even less. You'll need a lot of

Its a bit more "complicated", i kind of had this beta-fulltime-grind at my home already for few months. Problem here was, that at first I tried 2months to win the "Natural8 Bankroll Challenge", which was "from 100$ -> 10.000$".. and top3 who makes it, gonna win $10k on top. But i had terrible run there and barely made any profit, altho playing fulltime. After 2months no monthly income, i quit the challenge, payed $1.5k out from there and started to grind my usual sessions.. in last 2 months i mad around 5k+ with fulltime schedule.

Problem was, ive rented too expensive appartment with my gf, and i had around €1k+ monthly payments, so my BR was never growing and i had alot of withdraws. In thailand monthly costs gonna be lower than €1k and i hope i wont withdraw that often (im def gonna withdraw some money monthly, but hope not much)

So i already has years of parttime poker experience and 3-4months fulltime, but its the first time with mate in a relaxed atmosphere and without huge monthly payments, thats why i hope to grow BR overthere, so im able to play on higher limits and beeing able to pay bills in germany, when i continue to grind over here..

I def gonna miss my chair, which is a super nice comfortable 400$ chair, in Thailand i gonna have regular wood chairs, we gonna find out how to make the best out of rhem..
We gonna look for renting a house, full furnished with 2 bedrooms. So we gonna have some kitchen/eating table, which is big enough for us 2 (and some smaller ones in bedrooms..) also def gonna have aircon and not only the electric fan

I think most of the things uve mentioned, we already thought through.. and so far staying positively ..biggest problems for me: regular kitchen chairs and that i only have laptop + one monitor (my usual setup desktop PC with 2 monitors).. but i think ill get used to it

Well, she was supposed to. Than she decided to work few months more and come over in last 1-2 months. But its not 100%, so we'll see. So far only sure, that mate coming with me and he gonna grind with me for at least 3months, probably for all 6months.
Yea no worries, ill try not to spend all of it lol. But after the big score i def gonne enjoy the trip a bit more, which means i probably gonna travel 1-2 weeks around with less grinding, and might take few days more often a freeday of grind, without having headache about my debts etc.

I think after 6months coming back at least break even is easy doable, ...coming back and clear the final €8k debt on my last creditcard, might be more difficult, but ill give my best to do so

May I ask why you chose Phuket?
Have you been there before? Isn´t it more expensive than for example Bangkok?
You problably go there because there is beaches as well right? Why not Ko Samui then or similar?

ive thought for a long time, and we decided with mate that we wanted to have a mix of great beaches and a bit of nightlife. But def with a focus on beaches. Not that we gonna be that often on a beach, but we like the atmosphere living near to a beach. Koh Samui a bit more expensive than phuket and the island smaller than phuket. Also heard alot that koh samui might become a bit boring after 1month+.
I also was in phuket once for 3 weeks and i really liked it (south oh phuket), so we gonna try to find a house somewhere near Nai Harn / Rawai. We gonna stay for first week in a hotel in Nai Harn and try to find a nice house somewhere there (we gonna msg and make up some appointments to visit some houses in first week, before we fly overthere)

Thats our plan for first 2-3 months. Last 3-4 months we gonna do spontanious. We might go first 3months phuket, last 3months somewhere else like Koh Samui, or maybe different country as vietnam, kambodsha, malaysia.. but we dont know yet. Just for the start im sure Phuket will be cool, since i was there and already know great places for beaches&restaurants.. if we need some hardcore nightlife, we still can drive to Patong and stay there for a night, but we are not up to hardcore partying But u never know, maybe after a big win we might go for it :P

I know Phuket is kinda "expensive" touristic spot, but imo most of it ull find in Kata (allt of russians) and Patong.. I liked it alot in the south, u didnt have there alot of tourists, but also wasnt far away of these spots for nightlife, if i wanted to. I mean its our first trip for that long time, and i think with Phuket there is nothing wrong u can do. Big cities like Bangkok might be cool too, but we decided not to start grinding in a big city

If you are looking for house in Rawai it's best to drive around and contact owners of houses directly, there is bunch of signs house for rent with phone number.

Not sure what your budget is but I just rented brand new (finished building 1 month ago) house with 2 bedrooms, large kitchen and living room for 15k baht. You will never find prices and deals like this on websites which are mostly targeted to non Thais. GL

Hi, thanks for the info.. we wanted drive around also, but just for backup having some appointments ready ..And in that point i was kinda tricky, i translate "house rent phuket" with google to thai, and copy paste it in fb search, than joined all bigger groups on FB.. sorted out, which were really renting house groups, and left the rest again..

In these groups they only write and inserate in thai, no english.. but happily fb has auto translate, so the most important things as price, bedrooms, place.. i could understand

Prices were everything around 14-20k 2-3bedroom houses.. so i think its okay, and i contact offers in fb directly and gonna ask for appointment

Dont even bother with the online stuff, no chance you'll find as good a deal, also bring a Thai with you, last time I was quoted 15k/month on my place stating it was the best deal he could do(initial quote was 18k), brought my friends girlfriend the next day to discuss electric rates etc and the price suddenly became 12kbht, and afaik the price wasnt even haggled lol

Well obv that would be ideal, but i dont think we will be able to get known to a thai in first 6 days for helping us out tho :/ And I dont really want to live in hotel for too long and get stubbern or something for looking out to make some thai friends to use them for dealing out a nice price for a house lol
I mean if it somehow happens and we meet up somebody, we gonna keep that in mind, but i doubt so

After the big win, and the 1 week break, i withdrew most of the money on my creditcards, to keep the interest fee low on my dept there, and only left 500$ on BR (for now).
Well 2 days ago I had my first little session again starting with the 500$, played around 30 tourneys&sattys with buyins from 1$ and 12$r (lateregged with 1buyin & addon) and booked a nice winnings session.

Shipped the 3$ grand daddy for 230$, also shipped 12$ turbo deep for around 300$ and had alot other smalish FTs finishing 9th-5th.. also 3rd in this 12$r one
Summed up booked a net profit of 670$, and spin BR up to 1170$. So might end up just going with it without any deposits, but we'll see how itll continue

yesterday had my next small nightly session, played one 30$ deepstack, 16$ re-entry and rest smaller buyins, and i managed to do well in my biggest buyin



I did my last 500$ withdraw few days ago, so with this 500$+ session my BR went back to 1170$. Nothing new, but still a nice win. Tomorrow i should get my passport back with 6month tourist visum and finally all important paper work will be done

its happening, right now we are sitting in Bangkok and waiting for our final flight to Phuket. Journey startet roughly with a 5h delay in frankfurt:



WY116 flight, 10:35am > delay to 3:25pm -.- Because of the delay, we got another flight from Oman.. originally we booked frankfurt > muscat > lumpur > phuket.. Because of delay we got frankfurt > muscat > bangkok > phuket

Once we arrived in Oman, we had another 1h delay and ive got told, that my baggage is still in Frankfurt lol



However, once arrived in Bangkok, we asked about my baggage one more time, and now they've told me everything is alright and my baggage is on the way to phuket.

So probably just gonna be a surprise once we arrive in Phuket
