Mitigating to ??? Mitigating to ???

Hey everyone. My name is James, but you can call me pman.

I'm 23 years old, currently a freelance video editor, poker player / twitch streamer, and starting a part time job with my friend this winter.

I want to be a professional poker player. Where should I move to? Online poker in the USA is a joke.

I want to be a live tournament grinder or online MTT / low stakes cash grinder. What should I do? Looking for serious advice.

Thanks,

James

To mitigate is to diminish or reduce, you probably mean migrate or perhaps more accurate would be emigrate or expatriate. I recommend the Philippines. Cost of living is pretty almost everyone speaks English, the dating scene is excellent (even if you are not an attractive male in the states who women are not interested in, you will have young (18-25) attractive women lining up to date you), and there is even a pretty good live poker scene.

Hey,

Thanks for the reply. I was making a joke at a certain poker site that always has to mitigate ddos attacks, haha.

Philippines...interesting. I'll definitely look into it. I'm a very attractive male, so i'm not worried about the dating scene. That does sound nice though. I'll look into it.

Thank you!

Another solid option is Mexico. It is a lot closer, so you can save some money and have a shorter flight, and they seem to have decent internet there. The close proximity means that you will be able to visit friends and family more easily. Do you know any Spanish? Even if you don't it would be a good opportunity to learn some, and you can use google translate on your smart phone.

There is also Canada to the north. No language barrier, but cost of living is higher than Mexico.

Both Mexico and the Philippines have favourable visa situations. Mexico you get six months on arrival which can be renewed ad-infinitum with a quick border run. With Canada I think you have a max of six months in a year, so it would be less ideal if you are trying to set up more of a permanent situation.

Or you can go straight nomad and just travel through Central and South America. You can get hotel rooms that are cheap as rent and just bounce from country to country when your 3 or 6 months expire. The problem with this plan is that sometimes the wifi will be a bit inconsistent, as opposed to having a broadband landline. That being said even the wifi at cheap hotels in Latin America is getting pretty good these days.

Are you on upwork? It is a decent way to get some freelance work as a digital nomad. Free to join, they just take 20% of your payments, but you get access to a ton of potential clients with it.

Felt compelled to correct you about Upwork. The fee they take depends on how much money you've earned with a client:

- As you earn up to $500 with a client, they take 20%
- After you earn $500, they lower the fee to 10% up to $10,000
- If you make it to $10,000 with a client, they lower it again to 5%

So you can have 3 different clients and pay different fees to Upwork for each depending on how much you've earned with them.
