I'll just keep this one going. Was kinda hoping that there might be a few other people that had visited or were going to visit soon that could chime in so this wouldn't just be my blog, but I guess travel is mostly dead now and is confined to Asia.

If you're interested in the dynamics of dating Mexican women, using Tinder, going on dates, their general attitudes towards foreigners, sex, etc. then you'd probably enjoy the thread over in OOT. Lost of dating stories dating back to my arrival on Feb 6th.

Good to hear. Only a week left right? I'll go through the OOT post too.

I can help you on the poker front. There are actually several casinos that have poker. Casino Palace has several properties across the city, there is also Casino Life, and in the north, Casino Astoria. All of them have 25-50 pesos blinds (around 1.5-3 dollars), and all of them are packed through the week.

The skill level is decent. As usual, there will be some fish and some good players.

Casino Palace properties also have almost daily small tournies, which are both great and terrible. Great in that, because they are so cheap, the skill level is some of the worst you will encounter. The terrible part is that it is almost a downright scam... the casino advertises a buy-in, a re-buy, an add-on, a STAFF buyin, a STAFF rebuy, STAFF addon, etc. All the STAFF X payments go straight to the casino, not into the prize money. I have no idea why the players have not rebeled to this. Perhaps because most of the players are so bad, you can actually have a very high cash rate.

Ocasionally, there will be large buy in tournaments, with better prize structures of course, but most of them in casinos outside Mexico City. Actually, late laast year, poker was recognized by the national sports department as a mental sport, so this year there are scheduled to be 4 very big, well-organized series of tournaments, around the country, in Playa del Carmen, Acapulco, Queretaro, and Mexico City.

I'm a 5'11" slightly above average looking white guy and I would say I could easily date 3-4 7s or 8s per week for an entire year.
Apparently I'm doing something really wrong... I'm coming to CDMX in 2 weeks, got Tinder Plus, swiped a few hundred girls, and.... 2 matches, one of which I strongly suspect is a hooker.

I was fairly lazy with my profile, just the "coming to the city soon, looking to meet new people, my interests are, etc.", but from the way you described the responses, I figured I didn't have to put in that much effort.

I matched with 3 hookers, they all just gave me their # in the first message then want to chat via WhatsApp and give their prices. One was really cute and mid-20s and only wanted $40/hour.

Are you white? A lot of girls commented on my eyes, which rarely happens anywhere else. I'd also thrown in your height (list it in cm) if you're not too short. I'm 5'11", but that's pretty tall for Mexico and also gets a positive response. My Spanish is intermediate level, so I wrote my profile in Spanish, could maybe make a difference, but a ton of younger girls speak English so I don't think it'd make too much difference.

If you have Tinder Plus, just log into your account via Tinder Web, then you can just quickly mouse-click through thousands of girls while you're watching TV. About 150 new girls show up on Tinder in CDMX every day, so there's practically an endless supply. I got ~400 matches in the first week, but I swiped right on every single girl until there were none left. I'd be surprised if you didn't get tons of matches if you start swiping more.

Hey OP, are you back in Mexico? Guess I’ll have to follow OOT Tinder thread to get the juicy updates. Got a few random questions, how’s the nightlife? I’m a big fan of Reggeaton, mambo, bachata. Is this a thing in Mexico City? Are you the right or left dude on the flag picture? Also about the rent, how unsafe you think it is to rent a studio that would cost less than $600/m?

Subbed.

I'm white and 6'1'' (listed it in cm). My Spanish is not very good, but I did write my profile in Spanish. My eyes are brown, so I'm sure that doesn't help any.

I've gotten a few more matches, but maybe up to 3 total if you filter out the undesirables, and zero conversations.

Just arrived back in CDMX an hour ago. Yah, pretty much all the dating details went in the OOT thread, but I could post a bit here if there's interest. Seems like what's left of this forum is mostly Asia-based.

I think I'll be pretty active, been chatting with 5 new girls from various dating apps/sites and kept in touch with 2 others from last time I'd like to continue seeing. The middle girl from the 1st pic in post #2 is the main one I'm interested in right now.
Probably won't get around to seeing them all. I'd also like to get back on Tinder and use up all my swipes. From Guy's reports, maybe it's cyclical and things are slower right now.

I'm not a huge nightlife guy, I haven't even been to a club yet, I prefer quieter bars where I can chat with a date or small group. I've been impressed, tons of cool bars, and lots of different areas with a solid concentration of places (Roma, Zona Rosa, Condesa, Polanco, Coyoacán, etc.) I do hear reggaeton blaring a lot so I'd imagine there are plenty of spots. Don't know enough about mambo or bachata, but bachata I'd be surprised if there weren't a few options. Salsa dancing is pretty big here. I'm horrible at dancing, but I'm gonna try taking a few private salsa lessons for like $10/hour to get the point where I'm not a joke and then try out a few salsa clubs.

Dude who runs MyLatinLife blog with tons of city guides and is more of a partier gives the Nightlife a 10/10.

I'm the Gringo. I adopted América as my team (I'm wearing an América shirt) and the other dude was a Costa Rican guy in town b/c his team was playing at América in the Champions League. Was a pretty funny moment.

I paid $650 for a month rental on AirBNB and the location was perfectly safe. You probably won't get in the upper end neighborhoods like Roma, Condesa, Polance for that price, but the ones located next to those are still safe.

That's really strange, I'd have guessed you'd be doing well. Maybe your account is low in the algorithm or something? I set up a fresh one before my last visit and maybe that helped my visibility.

Could also be low season for Tinder. I arrived on Feb 7 last time and usually early in the year and around Valentine's Tinder is pretty popular.

Guy, how selective are you when swiping? I guess if you're only swiping right on the best of the best then it makes more sense.

I set up a fresh account about 6 hours ago, got Tinder Plus, used a boost, then clicked right on 100% (using Tinder web to speed up the swiping) while watching a game for a little while. When I checked back after about 6 hours, I was at 70 matches. Probably 40 of those undesirables, 5-6 that were pretty cute and potential LTR material, and the rest I'd put in the "willing to bang, but probably not LTR" category.

I tried swiping right on everything, maybe got a dozen matches, 1 or 2 good ones, still no convos.

Unless my pics are a lot worse than I thought, maybe it does have something to do with using the old account. I'll set up a new one and see how it goes.

Update: got a lot more matches, but still only about 3 I would consider "good" (i.e. women I would have a hard time matching with here). One of the three is completely unresponsive, and the other 2 sometimes take days to respond, so not expecting much there either.

Anyway, I'm flying into CDMX tomorrow, and will probably switch to Bumble/Badoo to see if I have any better luck with a different app.

Where is "here"?

In Omaha, NE, I get basically 0 matches that aren't unattractive, fat women. I used dating apps a bunch in Lyon, France, and even their with the foreigner factor (and I spoke decent French), those matches couldn't hold a candle to the ones in CDMX, although they were much better than Omaha.

I do have to agree though, that match quality seems a bit worse here in May, then it was during my first foray in February. Still, I can't complain too much. I've had a couple solid leads with some hot yoga girls, which is my exact type, and a few other quality matches. Then a couple dozen matches with slightly above average looking girls that are nothing to write home about here, but would all be among my best matches in France.

I met a 35-year old yoga chick who I'm super into, although it's only been 2 dates. Her personality is a perfect match for mine, she just finished a PHD and seems very intelligent, pretty cute (although not among the best looking I've gone out with), nice body, and one of the best kissers I've had. We spent about 3 hours straight making out in a park in our 2nd date. Couldn't seal the deal b/c we were in her area and she has roommates, but hopefully this week.

I'm 34 and getting tired of the dating game and would like a LTR, but part of me wants to keep going on Tinder for a little while longer b/c I've never been able to consistently go on dates with women this attractive before.

Anyway, here's an example of a few girls I'd put in the "slightly above average" category that I won't even bother messaging on Tinder in CDMX, but in France would be pretty good matches for me.

Yeah, I'm not getting anything like those pics you posted. Maybe I should change my profile to reflect how much I'm into yoga, lol.

I'm going to be staying in Colonia Juarez; you have any recommendations for non-internet hangouts? In Bogota they had language exchange events at bars that were great for socializing.

My profile just talks about travel, yoga, and meditation mostly. Maybe list something about travel if you've done a bit or post a pic or 2 in an interesting place. The yoga part attracts a few girls who are into it, but I don't think it's made that big a difference.

To be honest, I've been here 5 weeks and only ever gone out when meeting with a girl from Tinder/Bumble/OKC. It's been a great way to discover different parts of the city b/c usually the girls are from different areas and happy to show me around. I checked on Meetup and it looks like there are tons of language exchange groups listed there, as well as singles, dancing, etc. Also Reddit/MexicoCity often has ideas for stuff to do.

i lived in cdmx starting about a year pre black friday. most of my dads family is from there. i lived in bosoque de las lomas year 1, world trade center area year 2, and last year in roma norte. i left cdmx about 5 years ago. even now i will only pass through by plane or on luxury bus. i had way to many incidences in my time living there of being stuck in my car for 3+ hours at a time just to make what is a 10 minute trip at 2am. i also grind online and time my travel to avoid peak hours but sometimes you have a meetup with friends at a certain time and just roll the dice the traffic doesnt screw you.

also the contamination is so bad its like smoking a pack of marlboro reds a day. always blew my nose daily and would get a ton of black **** in the kleenex.

most people i know from cdmx have been slowly migrating to cities like san miguel de allende/queretaro because they are just tired of dealing with the problems. i will agree its exciting when you first arrive to live but for me that died off fairly quickly.

I've done 31 Uber trips in about 6 weeks and never had a terrible experience, although obviously traffic is bad at times. A lot of the rides were from 4-9PM too. Certainly nothing like a 10 min trip taking 3 hours. I think my longest ride out of the 31 is maybe 50 minutes on what would take 15 with no traffic. Hoping my luck holds. I even got to the airport from Juarez in 20 minutes once at like 9AM, couldn't believe it. Like you, I try to time my trips to avoid the worst hours.

Yah, the contaminacion sucks, I think it's like smoking 4-5 cigs a day from what I've read, but then any big city won't be all that much better. As someone who looks out for their health a lot, this is the main thing that concerns me.

I've been on about 15 dates, so my sample is small, but most of the girls wouldn't leave CDMX for anything. I think one didn't like it much, but the rest love it. I was actually worried about dating Mexican girls that they might just be using me to get to the USA, but there hasn't been 1 like that. They all really love their country/city. I tend to match with fresas though, so this isn't Tepito we're talking about. It sounds little like the dating atmosphere in Medellín, so that's refreshing.

Yah, I wouldn't rule out a move to a place like Querétaro, or a cool mid-sized city without a ton of gringos (sorry San Miguel). Been to Mérida, thought it was just ok, Valladolid is cool, but too small, and Riviera Maya is ok for vacationing. I need to start knocking some other places off my list, starting with Puebla next week I think.

Thanks for the post

Figured I'd provide an update since it's been awhile. I've been back in CDMX for about 3 months which brings my total time here to 4 months. Still completely love the city and the other places in Mexico that I've seen. The place is oozing with awesome people, culture, and food and all at a ridiculously low price. Luckily poker has been continuing to go well. If you can earn money independently, then I couldn't imagine living in the USA over Mexico. At least for my situation and things I enjoy, my quality of life is just as high or higher and monthly costs are about half of what I'd spend in an appealing American city (Austin, Denver, Portland type cities).

Nothing new to report on the Tinder front. It's been going extremely well with the girl I mentioned in post 39. She's got 2 Masters, a PHD, teaches yoga on the side, just got hired as a researcher at a local uni and speaks 3 languages fluently. I read the Asia travel threads often, and it seems a point of frustration is that the girls know little English, are generally uneducated, and are difficult to connect with on a cultural level. That couldn't be further from the case in Mexico. My current gf and several of the girls I was dating before all have a solid grasp of English (except a few), most are well educated with solid jobs, most have been to Europe or other place, and culturally there is a ton in common. Sorry if it sounds like a Mexico infomercial and I'm probably being over the top, but I really love this place and it's shocking to me that these cities exist so close to the USA and there is almost zero interest in visiting anything other than Cancun/PV/Cabos, etc. Not that those places aren't fun, but central Mexico is oozing with interesting stuff.

My girlfriend and I have been visiting a couple new places, so I figured I'd throw in some pics.

Pic 1 is in CDMX. It was an incredible moment b/c Mexico had just defeated Germany in the World Cup and the main drag had hundreds of thousands of Mexicans just partying and celebrating:

Back in May my gf and I visited Puebla, which is one of the largest cities in Mexico and only a couple hours by bus:

That last pic was a Church in Puebla. It's difficult to see, but that room is completely plated in gold and pretty amazing to see.

Puebla in general is a great city, and even rivals many Euro cities among some of my favorites. I was pleasantly surprised.

Very close to Puebla is a small city called Cholula. There is actually a pyramid underneath this hill built by a pre-hispanic civilization. It's actually the largest pyramid that exists in the world today. Normally the Spanish would destroy any religious edifices b/c they saw them as a threat to Catholicism, but they didn't realize it existed below the soil:

Next we visited a little town just outside of CDMX called Tepoztlan. It's a little town full of hippies and foreigners and surrounded by mountains. We walked the hour path up el Tepozteco and were rewarded with a nice view:

Our most recent stop was another small town called Zacatlan, also a couple hours by bus from CDMX. We were able to stay in a sweet cabin with amazing views of the mountains and surrounding valley for ~$40/night:

My gf has a month off before she starts her new job, so we're gonna visit a nearby state called Michoacan. The capital, Morelia, looks really interesting and there are a bunch of great towns littered around the state.

Very nice thread.

You caught my attention because I'm trying to make it to DF for WCOOP this year. Not my first rodeo with Mexico. Have made extensive trips to Baja California (Mexicali, Tecate, Rosarito, Ensenada) and have enjoyed my time there. Women in Mexico are amazing and I enjoy the culture too.

If I end up going, it will be the second week in September and my first time in DF in about 15 years. I don't know how much tourist stuff I will do since my intent is to play as much WCOOP as possible and the DF pollution really affected me last time.

I know this is an old inquiry, but I'll help. I am American but have a PStars account that is based in Mexico. You just have to send them a utility bill from your apartment in Mexico and they will switch you over to play for real cash. Just make sure you do it from your Mexican IP address (they will not deal with you at all while in the US) and send all the documents through the PStars software. Once I did that, my account was switched over within a couple of hours; the process really couldn't have been easier.
