im interested in NL holdem, stakes from 1/1usd to 2/5 usd

i would be very thankul if anybody can give some info about these questions:
- avaialabilty of these games: 1/1usd to 2/5usd - pessos equivalent
- rake structure, promotions
- smoking inside
- info about /drinks in casinos
- are the locations near casinos safe
- any other useful tips/info are welcomed

thanks
The most common NLHE game you could find in CDMX is 25-50 pesos. (A little higher than 1-2 usd). You may be able to find these games at Casino Palace and in Big Bola Pedregal but I’m not sure if they are running daily since the most played game in CDMX in casinos is a mix of PLO/Mataces (AA+).

Recently someone told me about a juicy NLHE game a Casino Black by BigBola Interlomas. I believe the stakes are 50-100 pesos 10k pesos buy in but I’m not sure.

In CDMX and in most places in Mexico the rake is usually a big blind.

As far of promotions most places may have a free snack menu for the players and even free drinks, but it’s not a rule.

Most casinos have some kind of jackpot also.

About smoking, the law says no one should be able to smoke inside a casino, the casino may have non-smoking warnings but still allow you to smoke. Changes a lot from casino to casino.

The locations are as safe as CDMX is. I won’t recommend walking at late hours. It is definitely not as safe as walking in Puerto Escondido or Playa.

You can still play a lot of NLHE in CDMX but sadly it’s not that common in casinos. PLO/AA+ has gained a lot of room in Casinos in Mexico. There’s a big offer of underground games but I can’t recommend anyone at this time.

I personally prefer Juarez and Cuauhtemoc b/c it's a little more local feel while also being perfectly safe and close to Paseo de la Reforma, which is cool.

If you want to save, you can go a bit south to Napoles, Narvarte, Del Valle, but they're slightly more boring.

A lot of people choose Coyoacan, b/c it's a super unique and historical area, but located a bit far from the rest of the sights, so you'll use the metro a lot.

Finally, Centro is an option, and safe near the main areas, but can get a bit sketchy at night and in alleys.
Thanks a lot, I'm staying in Cuauhtémoc and liking it a lot so far.

Went to historic city center yesterday and walked all through the street market they have there. Got stopped by two cops that searched me for drugs and clearly wanted money (didn't get anything ofc) but besides that every other mexican I encountered has been very respectful and helpful.

Gonna keep on exploring, today probably having dinner around Roma/Condesa, restaurant recs welcome.

Damn, sucks about the cops. I've heard it mentioned from time to time, but in 3 years in several different parts of Mexico never had one run in with cops, and I'm an obvious white foreigner. And yah, in general, the reception from Mexicans for me was positive.

My apartment for 2 years was on Río Amazonas in Cuauhtémoc and if you haven't noticed already, Río Lerma in that neighborhood is a cool street with tons of restaurant/bar options.

If you're up for tacos in Roma Norte, there's a taco stand called Tacos Los Juanes that has probably my favorite tacos al pastor in the city. Another nice little taco place in your neighborhood is called LOS DESTACADOS taqueria. Pretty good pastor and bistec there.

My favorite restaurant is probably a Korean place called Young Bin Kwan in Juárez. You definitely need to try the carne de res marinada (Korean BBQ) there.

What's your take on Juárez? I live across the border from Juárez close to El Paso, but have never visited because I'm told it is so dangerous there. I'd like to check it out one of these days, so any input is much appreciated.

My comment was about the neighbourhood in CDMX called Juárez, not the city. Don't know much about the city, but heard it's pretty dangerous and not all that interesting.

Not sure if one exists for poker players, but you might try asking in Reddit/digitalnomad as Mexico City has become super popular there. They probably have a group like that if you don't mind nomads instead of poker players.

Where's the best place online to find an apartment to rent for 3-6 months?

Airbnb is the easiest way. You can ask for discount for longer period. Besides airbnb you can try to find in some expats/digital nomads fb groups.
Not sure about any other online places, there are probably some reliable where you can book but just need to be very careful. I would always pay a little bit extra through airbnb compared to going through some shady websites.

Yeah I just thought I could get a better deal than Airbnb somewhere else. I'm a native spanish speaker so I should be fine surfing deals on smaller sites. In Thailand you have a website like DDProperty that lists a bunch of places for long term rentals, so I was wondering if there was anything like that for CDMX.

airbnb used to be great. with fees and such they are often not a great deal anymore and lots of people just looking to take advantage and offer crazy rates
facebook marketplace and facebook expat/real estate/short term rental groups has been my main way of getting 3-4 month rentals now for years
if using airbnb I just mass message like 30-40 places with the same thing, tell them fees on my end are high and if they can either give me contact info to deal directly with them or give me a huge discount to cover fees. th1n yo4u t8pe you6r num3ber l1ike thi2s and have them send you a whatsapp message, as airbnb will block the message if its just a straight number because they knowwww. fack airbnb these days, gone downhill for the most part

CDMX is one of the most popular places on reddit/digitalnomad, plus they added like an 18% tax on AirBNB rentals in addition to all the fees AirBNB has been slowly jacking up over the years. So prices have been pretty bad there lately. I was there for a month in late '21 and ended up paying like $1600 for a 1BR in San Rafael, which isn't even that good an area. Facebook route would probably save even more than it usually does.

That 18% airbnb tax hurts so much. Prices on Facebook can be like half the cost of Airbnb, but I need to contact and see if they allow for short term leases (I imagine so).

Also, Otello, I'm 24 years old and having been living in Mexico City and playing NLHE online for like a month.

To set up stars/party/gg you need to have proof of residence in CDMX (They ask for a bank account statement or utilities bill) which can be set up if you have an apartment. I DM'd you on Discord.
