Btw I was at the dragonara casino on friday.

30€ PL Holdem Turbo Tourney lol.
Cash was running to, 1 table of 1/3. Friend of mine played and thought it was really fishy and rake not too bad.

Casino is decent tho, all drinks for free and blackjack.

Hey all,

A few friends and I are thinking about getting a place in Malta from January through March to grind poker online. I was hoping someone could help answer a couple questions of mine:

1. Is getting set up in Malta as easy as say, Canada? Can I expect to be all set up with Pokerstars a week after getting there?

2. Will it be hard to find a pet friendly house/apartment to rent for three months? Can anyone suggest any reputable real estate agencies?

Many thanks!

The Muffin Man

Are you an American that hasn't relocated yet? If yes, then the answer to your question is no chance.

Getting a bank account here is hell. It *might* be relatively easy if you use HSBC first at home, but as a Bank of America user, getting them the forms they need to verify I have an account in good standing has been hell. Among other issues, BoA tells me they will not mail anything overseas, and the banks here need the form mailed directly to them (it can't pass through my hands, and they won't except email/fax).

I've been here two months and still no bank account. I'm strongly considering moving to Toronto.

ZJ, how come you chose Malta in the first place? Haven't other Americans set up bank accounts there? Is it just a BoA issue?

HSBC doesnt take on pokerplayers since black friday and have been sorting out their already existing customers that are pokerplayers.
I've had this issue with their offshore services and in Poland, and a friend in the states. so HSBC is not a real answer either really.

I opened an HSBC account in Canada 4 months ago and was upfront about being a poker player and had no problems.

The old permanent residency laws were very favorable. As of ~2 months ago, that is no longer the case. Liked the Mediterranean but .ES, .FR, and .IT laws caused problems.

Most Americans have had success in 1-2 months. It's not just a BoA issue, but BoA makes it worse.

A bit to lazy to read the whole thread. I hope there are still a few people how would like to answer my questions. Are there any (sportbetting) Bookies over there in the bigger city's. Do u pay taxes for poker and sportsbetting. Is there much live action in the cashgames in the casino,s daily tournaments. Ty

I can not answer anything regarding taxes since I´m Swedish and everything within EU is tax free for us.

When it comes to the casinos I have still only been to Portomaso Casino, the newest casino and the place that run most international events.

You can find info on their website www.portomasocasino.com
I can tell you that when there is no bigger events there the games are slow and low, 1-2 euro cashgames most common and biggest weekly tourney is 110 euro buy-in on sundays.

When bigger events are running it´s mostly with buy-ins from 330 to 600 euros and these days you can find cashgames from 1-2 up to 5-10 and some times 10-20, all NL.

There are some people that wanna play PLO and if there is enough interest the casino will open a table for it without problems.

From the 29th Nov Betpro.it is running a 100k euro freeroll and they are expecting around 1000 players for that week, and alot of cashgames, from 1-1 up to 10-20 at least, so will be good action.

I have no idea how other casinos are, if anyone has some good things to say about for ex Dragonara please share, since I still has not been there.

Regarding bookies I have no idea, I prefer to do my betting online.
Any more questions, just ask.
