Come by car with a view to sell the car when you get here, unless you need it. You will be charged some import duty, but second hand cars are worth a fortune in Malta.
Before coming out here, I had an old 1996 BMW 535se as a run around (I knew I was emigrating so didn't need anything better and only used the thing about once a week). I sold the car on eBay for about 800 euros. That's the going rate in the uk for a car like that, even though it was very well taken care of.
Over here it would have been worth at least 5000 euros. You can't pick up a rusty 20 year old hatchback for under 2k here. It's mad. Second hand goods really hold their value in Malta.
It's like the opposite of the UK where there is no shortage of old junk and a big shortage of ready cash. Here it's the other way around!
Computers and monitors never travel well overseas by mail. I packed mine perfectly, but it turned up as road kill.
