Come by car with a view to sell the car when you get here, unless you need it. You will be charged some import duty, but second hand cars are worth a fortune in Malta.

Before coming out here, I had an old 1996 BMW 535se as a run around (I knew I was emigrating so didn't need anything better and only used the thing about once a week). I sold the car on eBay for about 800 euros. That's the going rate in the uk for a car like that, even though it was very well taken care of.

Over here it would have been worth at least 5000 euros. You can't pick up a rusty 20 year old hatchback for under 2k here. It's mad. Second hand goods really hold their value in Malta.

It's like the opposite of the UK where there is no shortage of old junk and a big shortage of ready cash. Here it's the other way around!

Computers and monitors never travel well overseas by mail. I packed mine perfectly, but it turned up as road kill.

trust me it's not fun driving in south Italy, plus it still takes more than 14 hours to get to Sicily from the north (e.g. Milano), and on top of that dont forget Sicily is an island too and you need another ferry to get there. For eu people who are looking to get to Malta through Italy Livorno is the best choice ainec

hmm that's a good option Livorno.
But don't i miss alot of views / exploring while driving in south italy or is it not worth it?

Arriving late night on Friday. Will be searching for an apartment or house the first couple days I'm there, if anyone can refer me to a Realtor it would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to PM me. Looking probably for a nicer apartment in Sliema/St Julians.

Are you just going for 3 months, or did you get a visa?

got banned because some oot asshat didn't like that I voted in his thread's poll or some nonsense. Should have my acc back todayish.

Didn't get a visa, probably going to sort that when I get there. Going for residency so I'm sure I'll figure it out during that process.

Fees, FYI I'm pretty sure that most Euro countries will not allow you to apply for a visa from inside the country. You may have to leave Malta to apply for residency. I know that for Portugal and the UK that is the rule.

fees, it's not letting me send you a pm. maybe you don't get private messaging immediately as a new member. If you're stuck call me on 99610330 and I'll hook you up with the agent who sorted me out.

Try from a local line, if you can't get through on your own phone. Property agent is working and at the office today, I think.

Not looking for long-term room-mate, but would be interested in looking at the possibility of offering one week's accomodation to new arrivals at my apartment in Sliema.

2-bed penthouse with large roof terrace. Nothing fancy but a big place with 2 bathrooms, high ceilings and enormous floorspace. Large clean modern bedroom available with balcony. Approx 100 yards from sea. Wifi is up and running. Have a spare set of keys.

Can introduce you to the reputable agent who sorted this place for me (months rent+months deposit+300 euros agency fee is standard), or you can just find your own.

I would be looking to charge 300 euros for 7 nights stay and will refund 20 euros per night, if you find a place within that time.

Eg. If you only end up needing to stay for 3 nights, I would refund you 80 euros.

For me, this would just be a good way of meeting players and giving me some extra income.

Message me if interested.

Can someone elaborate on the tax situation in Malta for foreigners looking for residency? Ive read several times a flat income tax of 15% is levied. Is this on all income/foreign accounts or just whatever you xfer to your Maltese bank?

hi, i will be in malta next few days to look for an appartment, looking to rent something between 1200 and 1600 euros per month for the next year starting in august. I was told about pendergardens and it sounds really nice. Whats the best way to arrange some views on such short notice? Any realtors that post here maybe?
