10x again
you can pay from 200 up to 3k...

i pay 3k for two bedrooms which is probably one of the highest rents...

depends mainly on where u go, views and furniture/assecoires...

St. Julians is the Center, Sliema very central and touristic as well, Gzira and Swiequi still central but not too touristic. that would be the places i would search for if u don't have a car... if you have a car u could widen a little bit...

He told me that currently the only way for non-EU residents to gain residency here now is through a work permit for a specialized position. I believe that the company hiring you would need to prove that your skills are specialized enough that nobody residing in Malta could do the job. They do this to protect jobs for local citizens. So most jobs at e-gaming companies would probably not suffice unless you have high level education related to the job.
hopefully that last part is untrue...
i know the permanent residency scheme has been suspended, but you can still apply for the 'ordinary resident' scheme.. you just have to qualify under one of the ~eight different options... one being 'economic self-sufficiency'.

idk if i'm moving to malta, but that was what i uncovered when researching..
thanks though John - maybe if you talk to your lawyer often he might be able to clear that up(?)

Hi all,

I don't post often here. I'm thinking of moving over next month and grinding for 6 months to a year. I'm Irish, 27 and looking for better weather! I'll probably get a place on my own and have been in contact with a real estate agent that posts here.

2. you get permanent residence scheme (not easy to get, will cost u some money or alot of paperwork): you pay flat 15%
3. you found a ltd. abroad and do everything over this company. u pay 35% and get 30% back. ur effective taxes are 5%
4. u keep ur money offshore (transfer to whatever country but not Malta): you pay 0%
5. u just cash to maltese bank account and don't declare anything: you pay 0%

imo everybody has to choose for himself what lets him sleep at night here...

cheers
I was just wondering about this tax thing, are poker players taxed in Malta?

Good shout mate, i'm moving next June, I guess its tax free or else there wouldn't be so many poker players on the island, would like to know for sure though. Also what's the social scene like? If lame it looks like i'm going to be spending a lot of time with the wife. We are moving to St. Julians, the last time I visited I only went to the little casino in Bugibba

Yeah, I presumed it was tax free for the same reason but I'd want to be sure before committing to anything. Hopefully someone will answer for definite.

I haven't been there before so don't know much else.

Hey Flishie,

Im irish also living here for the past 7 months. Id defo recommend coming out here to grind for 6 months/year. Its cheaper than Ireland and a lot less depressing than Ireland currently is that's for sure

As for tax, as long as you use your irish bank account to deposit/withdraw then you will be grand.

Send me a pm here or on IPB (im RBBlogger there) if you have any other questions or need help getting set up.

i'm not moving there anymore (well.. not yet at least ), but from what i've researched it seems there are different tax brackets.. and any money remitted to a Maltese bank account is taxed.. so like jpr suggests, as long as you have a different deposit/withdrawal option you should be good..

also, when you try to qualify for 'ordinary residence' (as the long term option has been suspended for an undetermined amount of time) when/if you are approved for the resident scheme, you have to pay ~4k€ within 30days of being approved..

Looking at coming over for a holiday with some mates. Has the nightlife disappeared by October, or will paceville be alright for a couple of nights?

What about September?

Still busy from thursday-sunday, other days might be a little less but most bars/clubs will still be open.

I finally made it here! Arrived a couple of weeks ago and got a 2-bed penthouse 100 yards from the sea, not far from the big seafront church and outdoor pool in Sliema. I think I've picked about the right spot. If I lived in St Julians the nightlife would tempt me too much, but it's only a few minutes by bus if I want to go.

Well, I don't know anyone here yet. I presume there are others in the same situation? Has anyone suggested a meet-up yet?

If not how about next Saturday at 7pm? My place has a big roof terrace, or maybe someone can suggest a bar if Sliema is too far away (I'm guessing a lot of you live around Paceville?).

I'm 39, so all fellow geriatrics welcome and anyone younger who doesn't mind their style getting cramped. Message me if you are free on Saturday, or if there is anything else planned.

To those of you who are still deciding where to emigrate to, I can tell you this about Malta. It's hot every day, the women are stunning, I don't think I've ever felt as safe anywhere, the beers are cold and people just smile like they are happy to be here.

What more do you want?

Huggy I had mine sent out UPS, very well packed in a wooden trunk. It arrived with both the tower and the monitor smashed to pieces!

I wish I could offer you some advice. UPS are usually good. I ended up going out and spending 900 euros on an Inspiron i7 laptop that would have cost me half in the UK.

I did. I moved to MAlta with my car (i lived in north-east Italy before). The best option is to take the ferry from Livorno, the only con is that it takes long to get to Malta (more than 24h) but like u since i had a lot of stuff to take with me it's worth the pain.

I used this site to buy the tkt:
