Dear people of Malta,

I've got a few questions for you, hope you could help. Cheers.

1. Been considering a job offer in Malta, salary €25K gross. Anybody knows the equivalent monthly net salary, I've found out somewhere from Google that the monthly after income tax would be about €1750 but I guess there are other deductions.

2. What sort of lifestyle shall I expect with that salary ?

3. Is there any considerations / restrictions about playing on-line poker there ?

And then anything you might think it's worth considering / knowing before comitting to the move.

Many many thanks !

1. I think after taxes and stuff it will be around 1.5 to 1.6k. more or less..
2. Depends on yourself, how much your rent is,your bills etc etc...going out is cheaper compared where i come from, same with food. What kind of lifestyle do you want to live ?
3. There are no restrictions or considerations as there are aounr 100 companies in the betting industry here in malta. There some networks where you cant play like entraction..but normally you can play on 95% of all pokerrooms.

Its really nice to live here, also to work. Its pretty laidback and everyone is chill. You can party everyday...weather is always nice..If you have any question, just shoot.

Thanks Belvedere07,

I have been searching info related to Malta throughout other threads. It takes some time to filter useful info from all sort of random posts but most people seem to agree on :

* Malta is overall a nice place to live but they consider it more like a x gap year/s.

* Cost of living is generally way lower than London's although some specific items or services might cost more.

* Being an European citizen the burocracy of moving there should not be problematic.

* Once you get your internet connection sorted there should not be any problems playing on most sites + cashing out ( and profits are not taxed ).

What about live poker ? is there any at all ? If so, is it any good ?

If I move there I'd be more interested in trying to balance a healthy life style with working full time and playing online. I'm over the party scene for the most part ( I think ! ;-)

All true. Malta is very nice and if you want a healthy life style with work you deffo have it here!
You can play life poker but the rake is sick...Still now during the summer a lot of fishes. You have daily tourney's and a 1/2 or 2/4 game running. We have 4 casino's..

How "sick" is that rake, for instance at the NLH €1-2 ?

The rake cap is somewhere close to 100€ so practically unbeatable.

Im finally moving out to malta in Oct. Is there many British and Irish poker players living over there? And many of the 30 yr old plus age group? Im looking forward to decent weather and grinding hard with the odd boozing session thrown in to blow off some steam. I presume the Island quietens down abit from Oct on and probably cheaper to rent a 2 bed apt as well??

Hi guys,

Im a 19 year old from Scotland and I am considering moving to Malta.

I'm not much of a poker player(i play £0.25/£0.50 online).

Do any of you guys ever head up to Qawra to watch football and not talk about poker ?

Hello,

I am currently looking for a 3 months trainee ship in Malta.
In a word, is there any other website than pentasia.com to look for companies that could be hiring in Malta?

What would be better is a list of companies in Malta in which I could send my Curriculum Vitae.
I already have this list: http://www.lga.org.mt/lga/content.aspx?id=86949 but it's not a very clear list and it does not give any mails.

Help would greatly be appreciated
Thanks

Hi all,

Me and 2 friends are currently in Malta till next Monday. We're all at least 1K NL grinders, looking to leave our country (Belgium) where taxes & legislation are pretty ****ty pokerwise.

So that's why we're checking out Malta. We talked to some laywers to get the details straight. However, unlike the 0% poker tax everyone talks about, we got a different story.
They told us that if poker is your only/main source if income, you're just gonna have to pay taxes (35% is the highest tax bracket). To avoid 35% taxes on all your winnings, you can start up an LLC with you as employee playing poker for the company. You give yourself a reasonable salary (20-30K/year), on which you pay normal taxes. The other company profit will be taxed 5-10%.
Ofcourse you have some starting up costs & recurring costs (accountant & whatnot).

Does anyone have some experience with this? It seems like most people just don't care, just play poker in Malta and put the money on their Maltese bank account. I guess this is fine if you just live & spend money in Malta, but wont this cause problems when you wanna make a big purchase (like a house for example)? Wont this cause problems when you eventually get tired of Malta and want to move (back to the home country, or somewhere else)? I can't imagine I can just go back to Belgium after 2-3 years and buy a house with the money I have on my Maltese bank account, without having ever paid taxes on it (and there might be even the small risk of the Belgian tax authorities coming after the money I earned abroad).

I was hoping to talk someone who currently lives in Malta and has this **** kind of figured out.

Aaand ofcourse, if anyone wants to hang out or talk about life in Malta / brag about their fancy appartment, just lemme know

The best thing to do is make somekind of own company and register it here in Malta. Ive got a cousin who is a comapny lawyer here in malta. I can give you her details if you want, she's also from belgium as me..Maybe she can give you some information about starting your own company.Ive also got some emails from her with documentation about what you have to do. I also live here in Malta with gillemon,we could hangout/go out sometime if you want. Pm me your skype or phonenumber. Cheers, anthony

Hey guys!

I'm thinking of moving to Malta, mostly because of the tax free winnings.

Can anyone guide me through the steps needed to become a resident?

TIA.

Are you an EU resident already ? Then you just have to go to the office and apply for a maltese id..Thats it.

Thank you for the quick reply.

Yes, I'm a EU citizen but I certainly wasn't expecting it to be that simple.

Pretty good news =)
