it took me about a month to get a bank account with hsbc getting a reference from my canadian bank. I'm told it's faster to get an account at the bank of valetta. with hsbc make sure you get a credit card from them as their quickcash card doesn't work abroad.

Bank Of Valetta also asks for a reference from your previous bank.

Still not there myself but I've been doing a bit of research on this for my gf while we're getting ready, she takes concerta which is like timed release ritalin that's not available on a lot of markets yet, but is there which is good news - so at the very least ritalin/concerta are approved. IDK about the others but concerta is the most recent ADHD drug on the market so I'd guess if they have that they prob have all the others, though if there's a specific one you get prescribed definitely double check to be sure.

As far as using your German prescription, IDK for absolute sure that there isn't some unexpected EU law that'd let you do this but I'm almost certain you'd need a Maltese prescription for any meds. But definitely do bring your German prescription anyway, and better still would be a letter from your German prescribing psychiatrist stating that you have an ADHD diagnosis. ADHD drugs are all pretty heavily controlled due to people using them recreationally so if you don't bring evidence they may have a legal requirement to give you all the tests to confirm ADHD before they'll give it to you, I know that was the case when we moved to Prague.

Yeah, took me 2 months to open my account (they had to send a "original copie" to my bank in finland and get them to sign it and send back), think I could got it a little bit faster but didnt really need it eather. If its urgent I advice u to contact Bank of valletta and ask them to send the letter to your bank in advance so u can sign all the papers and get ur account when u arrive.

Yep Malta is awesome. Moved to Swieqi on February 1st and i love it.

Thanks to Matt by the way (I am his neighbour now), he's a really good estate agent and i recommend every poker player planning on moving here to contact him.

Is this site legit? Seems pretty cheap, most people on here are talking about 600-900 euro apartments but this sight shows lots of livable places for 350ish

I'm doing some research on where it would be more convenient for me to open a bank account to withdraw poker funds.

Can anybode tell me how it works in Malta? Do they ask many questions to open a bank account and then to withdraw large sums of money? Do you have to pay taxes?

Thanks!

Dhalia is one of the three big real estate agents in Malta. The other two being Remax and Saragrech.

that site is correct, however please note that all letting websites in malta will not be updated, for the simple reasons that all agents have the same properties. Only agents like Dhalia will have other properties that other agents will not have

You have to pay taxes on money you remitt to Malta.

In practice I believe nobody is paying anything bc nobody cares.

However that's the reason I don't have a maltese bank account...

i don't have a maltese bank account because i'm too lazy to open one.

i'd recommend malta to any poker players looking for a new location, it's awesome - and the summer has just begun!

Any older people in malta? 36 here and in the midwestern US. Been reading through this thread a little and becoming more interested. Any yanks have reports on how easy it was to get set up there? (inet, passports, bank accounts, ~cost-of-living, ect.) I've seen Matt's posts, seems like he's the "go to" guy for accomadations. Just wondering about the social climate. Looking forward to some culture shock later this summer. Tired of my lazy whinny countrymen. thanks for any info in advance.

Considering moving there. Will go on a short scouting trip in a few weeks

weather seems good, only thing im kind of afraid of is the overall mediterranean carelessness, not limited on a personal level but also translating in them being way behind as a society compared to the more western europe countries (im kinda comparing with my country belgium)
not sure of this btw, just a prejudice i have atm, will have to find out for myself

With the exception of driving standards you have nothing to worry about IMO, Malta is a very well organized place with excellent healthcare, good civic infrastructure etc. It has some problems competing on cultural stuff just due to its size, but it's much more orderly than for example Italy. I think the Disraeli quote about Valletta is 'a city built by gentlemen for gentlemen,' which always makes me LOL hard for some reason but is also a fairly good description.

I'm 30, does that count as old? I'm moving to Malta in 7 days, am highly psyched - can grab a beer when you get here if you like. No first hand experience on visa stuff, but do know that Malta is now in the Schengen zone so will be same as any other Schengen country if you're coming as a tourist which I think means you get 90 days.
